Dear Parents and Students, Yesterday, Sophie, from Year One, attended the launch of the book ‘Our Little Yuin’ at the Little Yuin Pre School. Sophie was a student there when the book was first started and did some of the paintings that look so beautiful in the book, which you can see in our office foyer. Congratulations Sophie – we are very proud of you! Congratulations also to all students who took part in the Clean Up Australia Project last Friday. Everyone helped to clean up the school playground and surrounding paddocks. It was a great team building activity and all the children contributed well. Thank you to Mrs McHarg for her organisation. Last week the Primary Class conducted an audit of our rubbish. We found that the amount of landfill rubbish that we produce at Central Tilba has reduced a little over the years but all school members need to be more conscious of which bins to put specific rubbish in. The greatest amount of rubbish that is going in to landfill includes pre-packaged ‘snack’ food wrappers and gladwrap. Parents and children are to be congratulated on sending some foods to school in reusable plastic containers, but I am sure we can continue to reduce the landfill amount. For parents of children in the Primary Class, today you will find permission notes related to an AFL Gala Day at Narooma on Friday, March 13th, and a permission note to walk up to Central Tilba to study the War Memorial. Please return both notes as soon as possible. On Friday of this week, I am required to attend a meeting of Far South Coast Principals in Narooma. Mr John Dodd will teach the Primary Class in my absence. Regards, John Carter, Principal. ANZAC DAY CENTENARY AUTHOR VISIT - AS PART OF THE

CELEBRATIONS FOR THE CENTENARY OF ANZAC DAY, award-winning

author Anthony Hill will visit Eurobodalla Shire libraries in April to speak about the

youngest known Anzac – a 14 year old boy – and other stories from Gallipoli and the

Western Front. The young Anzac, James Martin, is the subject of Anthony’s

celebrated historical novel Soldier Boy, winner of a NSW Premier’s Literary Award.

Lying about his age and leaving Melbourne in June 1915, Jim Martin lasted only

seven weeks at Anzac before succumbing to typhoid. He is almost certainly the

youngest Australian soldier to die. In addition to Soldier Boy, Anthony will talk

about Young Digger, the story of a little war orphan smuggled back to Australia in

1919 … Animal Heroes, a collection of 21 stories about the dogs, horses and other

creatures who have served with our armed forces … and his latest book The Story of

Billy Young, a teenager at Changi, Sandakan and Outram Road. Bookings essential.
