Hello My Fellow Line Dancers-
This first half of 2012
has really flown by for me –
both figuratively and literally. I
hope by now that each of you
has had an opportunity to meet
your new administrative officers
and committee chairs. Yes, the
Executive Board consists of a new “dance mix”, so to
speak, but we are working hard to ensure that
HULDA keeps feeling and spreading the joy of line
dancing throughout our area.
Speaking of the Executive Board members, I
would be remiss if I did not take the time to thank
them for being patient with me during our transition.
For those of you that did not know me personally
before I was elected president, please understand that
I have been diagnosed with acute “travel-itious”. Yep,
I am an official, frequent-flyer-holding, who-needs-
time-to-pack, travel junkie. In these 6 short months,
I have been out-of-pocket every few weeks;
sometimes with as little as 2 days notice. No worries,
though. YOUR Executive Board has picked up the
slack and continued to work for the organization even
when I couldn’t show up to a meeting (with or
without coffee & snacks). I am still not sure whether
you got it right in the polling for president, but the
other administrative officers and committee chairs are
da’ bomb and right on time.
Won’t you please join with me in thanking
them for their service and patience. I know I’m
changing up the steps – but the song ain’t over yet.

Line Dance Cruise 2012
Recap By Bessie M. Holmes
From the moment we boarded the Carnival
Magic ‘til the moment we returned home, one word
describes the experience –
FUN! This cruise, by far,
was one of the most
enjoyable experiences I’ve
had in a long time. The
Carnival Magic’s staff
welcomed us aboard with a
fun photo and plenty of smiling faces. After which, we
sat in the deck 3 lounge and waited for more friends to
join us in the “scavenger hunt” search for our rooms.
Then we were off for an adventure of a lifetime!
The next seven days were filled with
friendships, food, and plenty of dancing. There was
sooooo much food. Pizza, burgers, chicken, lo mein,
cake, ice cream, and many more foods were free and
endless on multiple decks. All you had to do was
show up and grab a plate, and you would find yourself
instantly eating something. Surely, we all gained at
least ten pounds from all the eating. Oh, and did I
mention the dancing?! We all embarked wearing our
red shirts, which made it easy to identify who our
fellow line-dancers were. We wore whatever we
wanted on all the other days. From The Wobble to
Love on Top, we just couldn’t stop moving to the
music. And of course, there was plenty of music.
The ship ported in Jamaica first. Ah, Jamaica!
The shopping, the music, the culture, and the cocktails
were fantastic! Stepping out into this interesting, yet
foreign, land was quite an experience! But all I can
say is that for not much more than five American
dollars, Jamaica was a place that left many of us
happily staggering back to the ship, with a strong taste
of rum on our tongues, while yelping, “No
ProBLEM”.
Next, we disembarked on Grand Cayman in the
Cayman Islands. Grand Cayman was breathtakingly
beautiful. The water was a clear turquoise blue, and
the residents were multi-culturally beautiful. The
shopping was fantastic, and the excursions were
awesome. Some of us went off to beaches, some of us
crowded the shops, while the most adventurous of us
all rode off on tour buses to Hell. Yes, you heard it
right. Some of us went on tours that took us straight
to a town called Hell. By the end of the day, we all
returned to the ship loaded up with rum, conch shells,
trinkets, dolls, canes, cake, and many other types of
souvenirs and memorabilia.
Finally, the ship landed on the Mexican island of
Cozumel, and of course we all hurried off the ship to
have fun. There was plenty of tequila, shopping, and
beautiful blue ocean! We ate plenty of fish tacos, and
although I am not at liberty to disclose the names of
any of the participants, some of us may have even
participated in some of the free tequila tastings that
were taking place on shore. A few hundred history
buffs even enjoyed an excursion to the Mayan ruins on
the Mexico mainland. And although these travelers
were a little delayed in returning to the ship, they all
reported the ruins to be an outing to remember.
The last couple of days aboard the Carnival
Magic continued to be just that – Magic. We
continued to eat endless amounts of food, enjoy shows,
fluctuate from deck to deck having fun, and even held
a private line-dancing party where the music was
everlasting and there were endless cocktails being
served at an open bar. This was a time of continuous
end-of-cruise fun, and at the same time, winding down
with packing for home.
