Groom the surface to preserve appeara ce, keep grass bers
upright, a d mai tai recomme ded a d eve i ll levels.
Mai tai a detailed mai te a ce a d activity log.
Inspecti ns & Min r Repairs
It is imperative to report a y eld damage immediately, a d repair
quickly to avoid a escalati g problem.
Sa ety HazardsTo avoid perma e t damage or safety hazards, check regularly for
a d address such critical items as foreig debris, low i ll levels,
ope seams, deteriorati g grass ber, drai age co cer s, etc.
High Use AreasPay special atte tio to the most heavily used areas (goal mouths,
cor er areas, etc.) a d add ew i ll or redistribute i ll to the
recomme ded depth.
Seams and J intsCheck seams a d joi ts where pa els or eld marki gs are joi ed
together. Ope joi ts ca create a trippi g hazard a d should be

REMOVAL OF
Foreign Objects& Contaminants
Chewi g gum ca best be
removed by usi g either ice or
a aerosol to freeze the gum,
which ca the be chipped or
broke off the turf bers. If gum
has bee smeared across bers,
pea ut butter will softe the
gum so that it ca be wiped off.
Su ower seeds, pea ut shells,
pistachio shells, etc. should be
removed by usi g a ha d held or
back pack blower. To mi imize
the moveme t of i fill, do ot
poi t ozzle directly i to the turf.
Use mi imal throttle to decrease
the volume of air.
Metal objects should be picked
up by a mag et that is attached to
groomi g a d brushi g equipme t.
Moss, mold, or algae may appear
i u derutilized areas of the
sy thetic turf, particularly
if it is i shade a d damp.
Specialty products are available.
Weeds are easily removed by
ha d if the i festatio has ot
become too excessive. Treat-
me ts are also available.
f d and beverageDo t allow food, sodas, chewi g gum, su ower seeds, chewi g
tobacco, smoki g, etc. o the eld. Set up dri ks for players off of the
eld, if possible. Provide ample trash a d litter co tai ers o site.
Chemicals and ther liquidsDo ot use clea i g chemicals co tai i g alcohol or aceto e
solve ts. Take care to avoid spilli g a y petroleum-based liquids
i cludi g fuel o to the surface.
Post sig age a d rules for the use of the eld to avoid
co tami atio a d damage.
If the eld is i a ood plai , cover it at the threat of oodi gwith a tarp desig ed to limit silt a d debris from
co tami ati g the eld surface.
Route eld access traf c i such a way as to mi imize the
tracki g of mud a d dir t o to the eld.
Gr m The Sur ace &Maintain In ll Levels
Regular brushi g helps to mai tai u iform i ll levels, keep the
grass bers upright, remove debris, a d improve the eld appear-a ce a d lo g-term performa ce.
Keep In Mind:I ll should be about 15mm below the ber tips.
Improper i ll levels or compacted i ll ca lead to high
g-max levels a d safety co cer s.
High use areas are pro e to greater i ll displaceme t.

Brushi g, drag mats a d proper rakes ca help redistribute
i ll eve ly.
I ll may accumulate at the edges of a eld. If so, clea the
material prior to brushi g back i to the mai eld.
Usi g a i ll depth gauge or a ail a d tape measure o
a grid patter is the preferred way to measure i ll depth
a d co siste cy.
EquipmentUse a static brush for ge eral i ll leveli g a d to sta d up the
grass bers. A mecha ical sweeper or other specialty sy thetic
turf clea i g equipme t should be used to remove surface debris.
Do ot use mai te a ce equipme t before receivi g proper use
a d safety trai i g. Use o ly sy thetic ber bristles, ot metal or
wire bristles. Do ot use 6-wheel vehicles.
Meth d & Directi nUsi g a average all-purpose vehicle, keep speed low a d avoid
sharp tur s. It is most effective to brush the surface whe it is dry.
The surface should be brushed i a umber of directio s,
alter ati g the directio i co secutive activities, but ge erally
i the directio of the i dividual pa els to avoid crossi g over the
mai seams. O differe t days, start at dif fere t locatio s so as to
alter ate the brushi g directio for each pa el.
brush Height SettingThe optimum brush height setti g will depe d o the model a d
type of equipme t, but will ge erally work best whe the brush
barely touches the tips of the turf. Do ot set the brush so low thatit digs i to the turf pile or backi g.
frequenciesI ge eral, the freque cy will be related to the i te sity of use;
however, excessive brushi g ca cause ber damage which
over time will compromise the elds performa ce characteristics
a d lo gevity. (See maintenance schedule on following page.)

SEMI-ANNUAL, ANNUAL
& AS NEEDEDSituati ns Requiring C mprehensive MaintenanceOver time, the followi g situatio s may arise which will require the
eed for more comprehe sive mai te a ce:
Grass bers become sig i ca tly be t, creased a d at.
The playi g surface becomes hard a d compacted. While
commo to i lled systems, this impacts the players a d also
ca create drai age issues.
Dirt, debris a d metal accumulate o or withi the system
despite routi e mai te a ce.
Seams become loose or pa els shift creati g a safety hazard.
I ll levels become u eve , particularly i high wear areas,
such as i fro t of soccer goals.
Types C mprehensive Maintenance
Comprehe sive mai te a ce may i clude the use of specialty
mai te a ce equipme t by trai ed professio als. Depe di g
upo the situatio , the followi g actio s may be performed:
Pr essi nal field Inspecti n & C rrective Acti nAssess the eld surface, ide tify weak or loose seams a d

field Rejuventati n
Field rejuve atio is a deep compactio a d deep clea i g of your
elds i ll, a d should be performed o a as eeded basis. As
elds mature, the accumulatio of u wa ted or foreig co tami-
a ts is i evitable, especially deep withi the i ll layer. Eve ts,
such as oodi g or dust storms, may i troduce extreme levels ofco tami atio . Whe a eld begi s to show sig s of deep compac-
tio , such as high g-max readi gs or sig i ca t drai age issues,
full eld rejuve atio may be desired. These mai te a ce services
are performed usi g specialized eld rejuve atio equipme t a d
perso el a d may i clude:
Removal of the vast majority of dirty a d co tami ated i ll
to get rid of embedded foreig matter that has co tami ated
the i ll system
U ta gli g matted a d compacted bers
A combi atio of clea i g of the origi al i ll a d/or
re-i stallatio of ew i ll
Removal of dust, debris a d applicatio of a disi fecta t to
treat for bacteria, if the origi al i ll will be processed
a d clea ed
Use special equipme t that combi es mecha ical brushi g,
suctio , a d a i ll retur system to remove surface debris
a d embedded co tami a ts.
SPECIAL CoNSIDERATIoNSfield MarkingsTemporary pai ts ca be used if formulated speci cally for
sy thetic turf. Ideally, pai t should be applied o ly to the turf
bers, a d ot i to the i ll; although this will ot be possible
if i ll levels are too high. Remove a d reapply pai t after
a maximum of four applicatio s to avoid build-up. Service
compa ies with specialized equipme t are available that ca
pai t a d remove li es, logos, e d zo es, graphics, etc.
Heavy RainIf sig i ca t po di g occurs after heavy rai fall, it may be a
i dicatio of a variety of factors, such as clogged or damaged
u dergrou d drai pipes or discharge outlets, base u eve ess,
debris i the i ll, or i ll surface te sio . For i ll surface
te sio , a surfacta t or lau dry fabric sof te er ca be used to
break the surface te sio allowi g the turf to drai .
Sn w & IceGe erally s ow a d ice should be left to melt a d drai off the
system without assista ce. If the su is out a d the ice or frost is
ot excessive, it te ds to melt rapidly, especially whe players are
o the eld.
At times, however, it is ecessary to remove s ow or ice to make
the eld playable for a scheduled eve t. The worki g pri ciple for
removi g s ow is to do so as ear game time as possible. Use
o ly p eumatic tires o equipme t used for the removal of s ow
a d ice. If a s ow plow is used, make sure the blade is guardedwith PVC pipe a d cor er elbows or rubber tips, a d the height is
adjusted to leave - i ch of s ow o the sur face. The remai -
i g s ow should be left to melt i the su light as brushi g the re-
mai i g s ow may also remove the i ll. Avoid usi g a tarp o the
eld duri g freezi g weather. Tarps, u less vi yl or poly-coated,
ca freeze to the surface, a d will be very dif cult to remove.
I some cases it may be ecessary to use a weighted law roller
over the eld to break up ice. The broke ice ca the be swept
off the eld.
Static ElectricitySurfacta ts like liquid lau dry fabric sof te ers ca reducestatic electricity.
Stain Rem valMost stai s ca be removed easily with a solutio of hot, but ot
boili g, water a d a mild household deterge t. Brush the stai
with a stiff bristle brush, scrub the area with soap a d water, ri se
with clea water, a d pat dry.

Equipment Leaks r SpillsPreve t leaks or spills by checki g equipme t a d its compo e ts
thoroughly before use o turf; do ot ll fuels, oils, uids whileequipme t is o the eld. Wipe a y excess grease from a y/all
tti gs.
Hydraulic uid: Petroleum-based spills ca damage the sy thetic
turf. Use o ly the ewer biodegradable uids, if available for your
equipme tdo t use petroleum-based uids. If a leak occurs
whe usi g petroleum-based uids, use spill leak towels to soak
up the majority of the uid. Vacuum out the i ll i the affected
area, use a solutio of household dishwashi g liquid a d water to
break dow a d clea a y remai i g uid from the turf. O ce the
turf is clea , you will eed to i stall ew i ll.
Motor oil: See above.
Gasoline and diesel : Do t ll equipme t while it is o the turf.
Do ot over ll. Use a catch pa while lli g to preve t accide tal
spillage.
Grease : Use grease spari gly a d wipe a y excess off of all t-
ti gs, beari gs, chai s, etc.
Vehicles
Do ot park vehicles o the eld, especially i the heat of the
day, or leave vehicles o a wet or hot eld for lo g periodsof time.
E gi e exhausts should ot be faced dow toward the
playi g eld, a d a hot muf er or exhaust pipe should ot
touch the surface.
Use lighter vehicles with LGP (Low Grou d Pressure) tires
with rou d edges to preve t rutti g. Do ot use cleated or
tractio tires.
Heavy vehicles (over 300 pou ds) should have a maximum
tire pressure of 35 psi.
Make wide, ot sharp, tur s, a d o ly whe the vehicle is i
motio . All vehicles should move at slow speeds. Avoid abrupt
a d sudde braki g, as well as sudde acceleratio or
spi i g of the wheels, especially o wet surfaces.
All vehicles must be checked before use o the eld to
determi e if they are leaki g oil or gas. If so, they should be
repaired before e try o to the eld.
C ncentrated Heavy Use Pr jecti n
Stages and Special EventsStage or other set-ups for special eve ts or activities, such as
graduatio s, are ormal. Proper eld protectio of the sy thetic
turf must be provided to preve t damagi g it. Use plywood,
i terlocki g plastic pa els or similar weight distributi g materials
u der all chairs a d tables co sult the eld builder or a eld
protectio compa y. Use eld protectio that does ot have a
dime sio al pro le, e.g., corrugatio , because the pro le will
tra sfer o to the turf a d require heavy groomi g to remove. no
a chori g spikes, posts or footi g should be drive i to the turf.
O ce the eld protectio is removed, the area should be groomed
a d swept with a mag et to remove a y misplaced or dropped
ails, screws, etc.
Helic pter LandingsHelicopter la di gs may be ecessary to remove a i jured
player, for example a d the rotor wash will likely cause i ll to be
displaced. As soo as possible evaluate the area a d groom or
brush as eeded.
Pr tecting During Ren vati nsProtect the sy thetic turf as eeded with approved tarps whe
earby re ovatio s, e.g., ru i g track recoats or i stallatio s,
clea i g or pai ti g of bleachers, co structio or repairs to
lighti g, re ovatio s of adjace t atural turf elds, etc., may
cause harm to the sy thetic turf. Co tact the eld builder for a
protectio recomme datio . Improper plastic protectio will cause
heat damage.
