eXtreme Drill Pipe Riser Advantages Looks, feels, handles like conventional drill pipe R2 or R3 Tubes with wall thickness up to 1-1/4 for preferred

welded product Incorporates gas-tight metal seal connection type

No need for less reliable, time/manpower consuming teflon seal ring Connection rated to 15,000psi internal and 10,000psi external gas pressures Potentially good for 100+ make-ups before requiring machining 12 Pin and 15 Box tong lengths permit 4-6 recuts per end Fatigue mitigating thread form (superior to all industry rotary shoulder TJ

    connections)

Slip-Proof tube option (reduce damages associated with hanging in the slips)

NACE compliant (65% - 85%) Material Grade Options (includes both tube and tool joints. Welds to be tested for informational purposes only).

Second generation double-shouldered tool joint, which evolved from the HI TORQUE (HT) connection design.

Flatter taper results in 25% - 30% torque improvement over HI TORQUE. Both API and HT connections incorporate a 2 taper per

foot. XT connections have a taper per foot, increasing cross-

sectional area at critical load bearing region of thread.

Primary Shoulder Provides seal and preload just as on conventional tool joint.

    Optional Metal Seal

Secondary Shoulders Do not contact when joint is hand tight. When joint is bucked up to recommended make-up torque, they do contact.

Secondary shoulder increases torsional strength by 40% (HI TORQUE) to 70% (eXtreme Torque).

Smaller OD and larger ID for slimhole drilling and improved hydraulics.

Increased torsional strength. Increased OD wear allowance.

    eXtreme Torque - XT-M Connections

XT and XTM are identical, except for the addition of the radial metal seal on XTM. Connections are not interchangeable.

Radial metal-to-metal internal pressure seal provides superior leak resistance in high pressure applications while maintaining torsional capacities equivalent to XT connections.

Seal integrity is not effected by multiple trips.

  • 2008 NOV All Rights Reserved

Metal-to-metal radial seal provides gas-tight pressure integrity. Resilient 15-degree metal-to-metal seal extends the circumference

inch up from the pin nose. The pin nose is not a seal, therefore minor damage and pitting are

permissible without adversely affecting the performance of the connection.

    XT-M

Single string can be used for drilling, drill stem testing, under-balance drilling, work-over and completion operations, especially those requiring gas-tight high pressure capacity.

Use in drill pipe riser applications reduces risks and increases seal and string pressure integrity.

    Interchangeability Yes Yes

Only Difference between XT and XT-F is the thread root design

XT-F has larger double root radius

Larger root radius = reduced max principal stress = improved fatigue performance

XT-F is fully interchangeable with XT
