GRADE LEVEL: Sec 2 Express

LESSON TITLE: Volume and surface area of pyramid

TIME ALLOTTED: 55mins

LESSON DESCRIPTION: (Write a concise description of what occurs in this lesson.)

In this lesson, the students should be able to understand how the volume of a pyramid is derived. Draw the net of the pyramid and find the surface area.

CLASSROOM LAYOUT AND GROUPING OF STUDENTS:(Where will the learning take place? How will the room be organized with the computers? How will the students be grouped (class group, individuals, pairs, small groups, etc…)

In the classroom. Individual work. Students will be able to explore how the volume and surface area of pyramid is derived using ace learning. Students to explore at their own time. The derivation will be shown to them in class.

INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES:(Identification of the specific learning outcomes expected to happen based on Competency Standards.)

Students should be able to identify that the volume of a pyramid with triangular base is the volume of a

triangular prism. Students should also be able to extrapolate and find the volume of a pyramid with a

square or rectangular base to be that of a cuboid and rectangular prism respectively. Students should

be able to draw the net of the pyramid and deduce the surface area of the pyramid.

STUDENT’S PRESENT LEVEL OF PERFORMANCE AND KNOWLEDGE:( Do the students have the adequate knowledge to complete the lesson successfully? What pre-requisite skills must the students have to complete the lesson content? Include technology skills.)

Yes. They have the adequate knowledge to complete the lesson successfully. None. Students can learn as they explore the video.

INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES:

1. Motivation:

Explain the importance of the lesson to motivate the student. Relate lesson to previous lesson or real-life situation.

Allow them to understand that the volume of an object with non uniform cross section can be found by experiment. Students should relate and be able to find the volume of cone.

2. Activities: (The sequential activities to happen in this lesson. It describes the teaching method to employ in learning the lesson.)

Students understand how volume is derived and then they practice using examples given in the text. After lesson student can still revisit the video from Ace Learning and practice the questions there.

3. Closure: Highlight how volume of pyramid is derived and how surface area can be calculated from the net.

Summary of the lesson and future lesson.

SUPPLEMENTAL ACTIVITIES:

1. Additional activities to expand the lesson2. Remediation activities for the student needing more instruction and practices3. Assignments

Students to log into Ace Learning account to practice the questions. Quiz will be set to test students understanding.

ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION:How will you measure the student’s success? Formally or informally? Formal evaluation of student work requires that a grade is taken while informal might be monitoring of work, or class discussion. This section should contain a description of the assessment process, the criteria for achievement, and performance levels. The criteria should directly align to objectives and instruction. Describe your plan for providing feedback to your students.

Pen and paper test. Most effective. As we will be able to monitor the students’ understanding. Alternatively ATT can be used to assess the students’ understanding.

STUDENT PRODUCTS:

What artifact(s) or products will result from the lesson? (such as a report, newsletter, diagram, slideshow, drawing, etc.)
