The Cornerstone Children's Home (CCH), operated
by Fulaa Lifeline International (FLI), provides
comprehensive care for children who have no one else tocare for them. This includes food, clothing, shelter,
education, and medical
care in a loving Christian
environment.
The youth group of
Ravensworth Baptist
Church adopted the CCH
as their mission project
for 2009-10. Through gifts to last year’s Christmas Market
and a year-long Penny Jar fundraising competition, thegroup amassed over $2,000 to help finish construction of
a new residential building in the CCH compound. With
that building now nearly complete, the CCH’s greatest
financial need is for sponsors for the Cornerstone Kids.
Through child sponsorship, you can be personally
involved in helping a child in Sudan. Your involvement
will go beyond the contribution of your money and will
include the expressions of your love through cards and
letters. Through you the children can know that someone
cares.
Cornerstone Children’s Home
Your contribution will help
house, feed, and clothe an orphan
at the Cornerstone Children’s
Home in Nimule, Sudan.

You can sponsor a child for just $30 per month.
When you agree to be a sponsor, FLI will match you with
one of the children. They will ask you to provide
information on the type of child you would best be able to
serve (boy or girl, teenager or elementary age). This will
also benefit the child in that he or she can be matched with
someone who can best
relate to them.
FLI will send you a
picture of your child
with a brief biography so
you can know something
of his or her life
situation. At least once a
year you will receive a
status report, an updated photograph, a card or drawing
from the child and an FLI newsletter. No gifts will go to
individual children. All gifts go into the ministry fund thatcares for all the children.
This avoids the problem of
inequitable support for the
children.
Join us in sharing your life
and love with a needy child!

For the past four years, Ravensworth Baptist Church’s
Holy Land Peacemaking Group has sought ways to support
our friends in the West Bank who are living under the Is-
raeli occupation. These pages provide information on three
ways you can join in this effort.
Olive TreesDaoud Nassar, who visited Ravensworth Baptist Church in
2008, hopes to plant 1,000 olive trees at Tent of Na-
tions, his farm just outside Bethle-
hem. The farm is surrounded by ille-
gal Israeli settlements, and Daoud is
trying to keep the land in his family.
He says, “The land is my mother, and I will not sell my mother.”
Each olive tree sapling costs $10
to plant.
Child Sponsorship
Contributions to United Palestinian Appeal will pro-
vide food, clothing, education materials, and medical sup-
port to disadvantaged chil-
dren in the Palestinian Terri-
tories.
$505 will sponsor one
child for a year.
$50 will sponsor a child for over a month.

Youth Nonviolence Training
Donations to Love Thy Neighbor pay for nonviolence
workshops throughout the WestBank. Young people gather for
training in strategies of nonvio-
lent resistance, including learn-
ing and practicing skills of work-
ing in small groups and design-
ing plans for community action.
They also plan and conduct nonviolent demonstrations in
opposition to the injustices of
occupation.
$40 pays the expenses (food,
materials, facilities, and trainers) for one participant
for one session of training.
Your contribution will be used to plant olive trees, to support young men and women as theylearn tactics of nonviolent resistance, or to sponsor a needychild living in the West Bank.

In 2002, the Lay Theological Institute (ISBET) of Havana, Cuba, added a Program of Women’s Studies with
start-up funds provided by the Virginia Chapter of the
Alliance of Baptists, including significant contributions
from Ravensworth Baptist Church. In 2004, after a church
visit by the visionary director
of the Women’s Studies
Program, “Midiam” Lobiana
Gamez, Ravensworth began
its partnership ministry in
Havana.
In 2009, the Women’s Studies
Program expanded its work
and mission, again through Midiam’s efforts. No longer a
course of study at ISBET, the newly restructured women’s
group was renamed the Christian Women’s Network
(CWN). The new program has five branches of ministry
outreach across Cuba, reaching individuals, families, and
church leaders through quarterly workshops attended by
an average of 115 participants each.
As General Coordinator of CWN, Midiam leads a women’s
study group and coordinates programs led by four other

ministry leaders serving five additional study groups—
Anglican women, children (especially young boys), pastors,
married couples, and the elderly.
In addition to the quarterly
workshops for each ministry
group, CWN also supplies travel
allowances for workshop leaders,
provides opportunities for spiritual
development and encountersduring off-campus retreats, sponsors special activities
highlighting spiritual commitment (such as World Day of
Prayer, Children’s Day, and Environment Day), publishes
and distributes a quarterly newsletter, Profiles of Women,
and whenever the need arises, provides emergency funds
from their small budget to meet humanitarian needs.
As the sole organizational contributor, Ravensworth
Baptist Church provides critical yearly financial support
through its missions budget for the funding of the CWN.
Your gift this Christmas reflects a commitment to the
empowerment of women in Cuba through the support of this remarkably successful and vibrant ecumenical
ministry committed to a feminist interpretation of the
Scriptures.
Thank you for being a part of a ministry of hope and love
which empowers people of all ages and walks of life to live
in a culture of peace and respect for others as they strive to
apply Christian principles in all areas of their lives.

Pennies for Peace (P4P) is an educational and fund-
raising program of the Central Asia Institute (CAI),
whose mission is to promote and support community-
based education, especially for
girls, in remote regions of Af-
ghanistan and Pakistan. As of
2010, CAI has successfully es-
tablished 145 schools in thesetwo countries, providing edu-
cation to over 64,000 students.
CAI’s work in the region emphasizes education, health is-
sues, and environmental and cultural preservation.
CAI’s community projects are located primarily in remote,
underserved regions where few other organizations work.
Since 2005, CAI has refined its mission to focus on rural
education, literacy, teacher training, and scholarships, es-
pecially for females. CAI also continues to pioneer and
promote education in regions with few or no such oppor-
tunities. They invest their resources in sustainable initia-
tives to improve the quality of education, support teacher
training, and help motivated students to pursue higher
education.
CAI has been establishing schools and offering south
Asian children hope for a better future since 1993. The
P4P program is designed to help North American students
broaden their cultural horizons and learn about their ca-
pacities as philanthropists.

13Your contribution will help p r o v i d e e d u c a t i o n a l opportunities for children inremote regions of Afghanistanand Pakistan.
P4P educates students about the world beyond their ex-
perience and shows them that they can make a positive
impact on a global scale, one penny at a time. While virtu-
ally worthless here, in impoverished countries a penny can
buy a pencil and open the door to literacy.
All people should have the opportunity to make better
lives for themselves. Unfortunately, too many children in
the world grow up without this chance, because they are
denied their basic right to attend even primary school. To
find both a sustainable end to world poverty and a path to
peace and security, citizens in every
country must be empowered to make
positive choices and provide for them-
selves and their families.
Your contribution makes adifference!
1 penny = one pencil
2 pennies = one eraser
$3 = one teacher’s salary for one day
$5 = notebooks for thirty students
$20 = one student’s school suppliesfor one year
$100 = five students’ school suppliesfor one year
$600 = one teacher’s annual salary
