PROBLEM:

Not sleeping well costs the UK economy £40 billion a year and creates widespread mental distress.

However, and despite excellent research work done in the field of sleep and sleep science. much of good thinking and knowledge of sleep remains just that and not acted upon.

This means that the vicious circle of sleep disruption goes on. Many millions of people continue to suffer from bad sleep which may impact on their mental health and wellbeing.

Brief – problem statement

HYPOTHESIS:

We know that certain activities (mental and physical) and behaviours can lead to problems sleeping.

We also know certain behaviours and activities help people sleep better.

So the question is: how can we create solutions that support people who have problems sleeping to adopt more of the sleep promoting behaviours/

activities in a way that lasts over time?

Also how can we do this in a way that represents a value proposition for people using the solution and for those supplying it

(e.g. the NHS or other supplier)?
