XCPS Uniform Manual Uniform Guidelines All children (Year 1 – Year 6) are expected to wear the correct uniform throughout the year.

• Terms 1 & 4 – Summer Uniform • Terms 2 & 3 – Winter Uniform

Children wear either regulation uniform or sports uniform on specified sports days only. There is no mixing or substituting of uniform items. Parents have a responsibility to ensure that at all times their children wear the correct School Uniform, sold only by the Uniform Shop. Wearing a uniform is a badge of pride, identifies that children are Xavier Catholic School students and it is an important part of being a school student. In addition, a school uniform teaches students to dress smartly and take pride in their appearance. Therefore, all students must adhere to our uniform standard and wear it with pride. Uniform Shop Information Xavier Catholic School uniform can only be purchased through the school Uniform Shop. Limited second-hand uniforms are also available to purchase through the Uniform Shop. The Uniform Shop is located at the far end of the Undercover Area and its opening hours are as follows:

• Monday – 8.00am to 10.30am • Wednesday – 8.00am to 9.00am • Thursday – 1.30pm to 4.00pm

Parents are advised of any special times or changes to the Uniform Shop’s opening hours through the school’s Newsletter and/or Facebook page. The Uniform Shop purchases can be paid by cash or cheque. EFTPOS facilities are also available. Uniform Shop orders can be placed outside the opening times through the School Office on the provision correct money is provided. General Guidelines Student presentation must, at all times, be of the highest standard. This includes:

• Clothing must be cleaned and ironed • Shoes polished and shoe-laces tied • Hair brushed neatly • School shirts tucked in

Temporary tattoos, make-up and nail polish are not permitted to be worn at school.

XCPS Uniform Manual Uniform Guidelines Dress and Shorts Length Requirements Girls school summer uniform dresses and winter skirts are to be worn at a suitably modest length. Boys school shorts and trousers should be only those sold by the Xavier Uniform Shop, except in special circumstances as approved by the Principal. Hair Hair styles for both boys and girls must be neat, tidy and reflect an acceptable standard. Hair colour is to be natural tones (i.e. not multi-coloured or unnatural hair colours such as pink and blue). In addition, hair styles are to be neat and tidy, avoiding shaved styles, no mohawks or designs shaved on the scalp. Hair should not cover the eyes or face, therefore students with shoulder length or long hair must have their hair tied back and can be decorated with a regulation coloured (blue) ribbon. The Principal reserves the right to decide on the acceptability of a student’s hairstyle. Parents are also asked to check regularly for head lice. Should head lice be present, please confirm your child’s classroom teacher. Hats Xavier Catholic School have a “No Hat, No Play” policy, whereby children will not be allowed outdoors for play or sport unless they are wearing a school hat. As such hats are a compulsory part of the school uniform and only the approved regulation blue school hats with the Xavier emblem is accepted. School Hats are available to purchase from the Uniform Shop. Jewellery As jewellery does not enhance learning, minimum jewellery should be worn. If jewellery is worn to school, the following is permitted:

• A wrist watch • A simple ring • One pair of small plain ear studs (for girls) • A Christian symbol on a chain around the neck • A medical alert bracelet or necklace

If students wear jewellery not listed above, it will be confiscated, stored and returned at the end of the school day.

XCPS Uniform Manual Uniform Guidelines Library Bag It is compulsory for all children attending Xavier Catholic Primary have a library bag. Xavier’s school library bag is available for purchase at the Uniform Shop and is made of polyester, is very durable, waterproof and bears the school logo. School Socks Students are required to wear Xavier Catholic School socks that can only be purchased from the Uniform Shop. Alternative sock colours and/or patterns will not be accepted and children who wear these to school will be deemed as violating our school dress code. Shoe Requirements Black laced or bucked school shoes are the only shoe permitted with the Summer or Winter Uniform. Sneakers that are white (or predominately white) with white laces are to be worn by both girls and boys with the sports uniform only. Themed or decorative shoes (eg sparkles, gem stones, etc) are strictly not permitted to be worn by students. Xavier School Bags Xavier School Bags are a compulsory part of the uniform for students from Year One. Only the approved regulation blue school bag is permitted and is available from the Uniform Shop to purchase. Xavier Junior Clothing School uniforms for students in Kindergarten and Pre-Primary are optional, and not compulsory. The Uniform Shop has a range of Xavier Junior short and long sleeve shirts and school shorts available to purchase, which are the only Xavier school uniform that may be worn in pre-primary. Formal uniforms are not to be worn until Year 1. Labelling of Uniform and Items All items of school uniform should be clearly labelled with the child’s name. This will assist in reducing the number of lost property items and ensure uniforms are returned to their rightful owner.

XCPS Uniform Manual Second-Hand Clothing Policy Parents have the opportunity to return school uniform their children no longer require by handing them into the uniform shop for resale. For Resale

• All clothing submitted for resale must be in good condition, clean and ironed; if they are not, the uniforms will not be accepted. Particular attention must be paid to sleeves of long sleeved shirts and underarms of dresses. When submitting uniforms, please attach a note showing your name and contact telephone number.

• Sale prices of second-hand uniform will be determined by the Uniform Shop staff. The standing policy for distribution of monies received is:

- 70% to parent - 30% to school

Parents will be advised at the end of each year if clothing has been sold, and amounts will be credited against future purchases.

• Once purchased, second hand items cannot be exchanged or returned to the Uniform

Shop to be resold.

• Only approved items purchased from the Uniform Shop will be accepted to be sold as second-hand items. Obsolete uniform items will not be accepted for re-sale.

• Uniform for re-sale will be reviewed regularly and have a shelf life of twelve months

from the time of receipt. If an item of Uniform is not sold within this time frame, the clothing will be deemed not saleable and will be disposed of accordingly.
