Formation Program

• There will be 12 teams. • Each group is composed of 10-11 members with one teacher/supervisor.

• Grouping is based on GC's recommendations and teachers’ feedback. We make sure that each group has a healthy mix of different personalities who can work well and can be productive with their tasks.

• For room assignment, we again consider the GC's and teachers’ inputs plus the student's preference for roommates.

❑Student handbook rules apply. ❑Any offense committed during the program will be properly documented and will be sanctioned based on the provisions of the handbook. ❑Sanctions may merit a green slip (detention) up to a reprimand. Community service can be part of detention. A notice will be sent to the parents on the third green slip of the student. ❑ 5th greenslip - REPRIMAND ❑ If the offense warrants severance from the school, the student could be sent home and the case will be handled in Xavier School. In such cases, expenses (fare of student and accompanying adult) will be shouldered by the parents.

❑Tardiness to class or assembly will merit a green slip ❑Students should get a haircut at least once in China. ❑Rooms will be inspected weekly for cleanliness. ❑Random search will be done for prohibited items. Possession and/ or use of alcohol, cigarettes, excess money etc. is strictly prohibited. Items will be confiscated and appropriate sanctions will be given.

• Students are expected to be punctual and to attend all XCE activities. They must always be with their group or with their buddy.

• Mandarin will be spoken as much as possible to develop students’ fluency.• Haircut will be inspected before departure and after 3 weeks in China. • Rooms will be inspected weekly for cleanliness, and random searches

would be implemented.• Possession and/or use of alcohol, cigarettes, excess money/credit cards

etc. is strictly prohibited. Items will be confiscated and appropriate sanctions will be given.

CURFEW

• Everyone should be inside their own rooms by 9:00pm, in general.• Lights out by 10:00pm

JUNK FOOD

• Allowed only from 6:00pm Saturday for Movie Night until Sunday. Chips/Soft Drinks found in the dorm during weekdays will be CONFISCATED.

HEALTH AND SAFETY• All personal medicines/vitamins should be provided by the

students.• Students are encouraged to have flu shots prior to

departure.• If necessary, it would be helpful to also have a general

medical check-up (including dentist/orthodontist) before the trip.

• Please provide a laminated summary of medications and allergies (if applicable) to the team leader. These will be turned over to the mentors. We will provide a hardcopy and a soft copy.

• Vitamins, especially vitamin C (for adults) will be helpful. • Inform any exposure to contagious/viral (e.g. sore eyes and

chicken pox) diseases before departure.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

• University clinic is open M-F in the morning and afternoon. • Community clinics are nearby (5-7 minute walk).• Nearby Hospitals (7-10 minutes by car) are accessible for

emergencies.• First aid kit / Medicines will be brought by mentors.• Mentors went through first aid training and basic life

support training.• We will conduct an emergency/evacuation drill when we

get to China.• Direct contact with Consulate of Xiamen is established. • We have close coordination with our partner university in

China

COMMUNICATION LINES

• The XCE Parent Rep will have direct access to the XCE Team leader. • Important concerns will be coursed through the the Parent Rep and

the Team Leader. • Individual parents may email their supervisor for more specific and

important concerns. • Internet access may be limited in China. As such, please allow some

lead time for responses through email. • For medical concerns, parents will be notified about extraordinary

situations (fever lasting more than 2 days, etc.)• If necessary, students will be brought to the affiliated hospital upon

PACKING REMINDERS

• Clothes, toiletries, personal medication (based on laminated list), and other essentials (See packing list)

• Pack warm, durable clothing that can be worn in layers.• Each student should bring a point-and-shoot camera.• Each student will be provided 2 bag tags. • Students should NOT BRING laptops or iPads / Tablets• 22 kgs. MAXIMUM for checked-in luggage • 8 kgs. hand carried luggage (back pack or duffel bag) +

small bag/messenger bag (no wheels)• Other uniform items (ex. shirts, bags, caps, etc.) will NOT

be allowed.

CELLULAR PHONES

• Cellular phones are required. Simple (dual band or tri-band) cellular phones are highly encouraged. Smart phones will be allowed but games and other social networking applications should be deleted.

• XS will help purchase China sim cards for everyone. • Procedure: • Cellphones will be surrendered when we reach China.• Supervisors will keep the cellphones in a safe during the

week.• Cellphones will be given on Wednesdays (After Dinner)

and Sundays (before going out, if necessary)• On Sundays, students are not allowed to use their phones

during the MASS, while in transit, and during meals.

CELLULAR PHONESPolicy:

• Students caught using their phones outside of the designated time/place will lose their cellphone privilege for that day. The phone will be confiscated. Habitual disregard of the cellphone policy may be sanctioned with a REPRIMAND and total cancellation of cellphone use.

• Students/parents may call on Wednesdays and Sundays from 7-9pm only.

ALLOWANCE

• MAXIMUM: 350 RMB per week = 2100 RMB for 6 weeks• Excess money will be CONFISCATED.• Allowance will have to be coursed through the

Accounting Office. Please put the money in RMB in a letter envelope with the student’s name and the total amount.

• Please submit to the Accounting Office between September 18 to October 9 (Monday).

• On Departure Day, October 30, students are expected to bring Php 500 pocket money for airport expenses

No.

Will there be sessions to prepare the students for “life” in China?

Yes. The student orientations will include sessions on housekeeping, budgeting, time management, dealing with roommates, etc. to help them prepare.

Will students be allowed to go out on their own?

Students can go around campus in pairs or trios, within the established perimeter.They cannot go out of the campus without a teacher/mentor.

What will happen on Sundays?

Students can join explorations. Sign ups will be done to determine who wants to join which trips. Public transportation will be used during these trips. Those who do not want to go out can stay in the dorm. However, they have to go out to the nearby areas for lunch and dinner (with mentors). These meals will be refunded upon arrival in China.
