Xavier does offer developmental education courses for students who have met the minimum admissions requirements, but who may still need a stronger base in the fundamentals
Placement of students in developmental courses are handled by the Office of Admissions and the College of Arts and Sciences
DEVELOPMENT EDUCATION
A student’s placement is based on: SAT scores ACT scores Placement Tests in English, Math, and Reading
Students take the computer based ACT COMPASS test
DEVELOPMENT EDUCATION
Xavier COMPASS Tests are approximately 3 hours (if a student is required to take all 3 portions)
A majority of the incoming freshman at Xavier choose to take the ACT, but both ACT and SAT are taken into admissions consideration A student can take either test as many times as
they would like. Admissions will be based on the higher of the 2 tests.
DEVELOPMENT EDUCATION
The average scores for accepted students: SAT- 480 critical reading, 470 math
Any student who scored between 410-430 on the critical reading portion would be required to take the English COMPASS
Any student who scored 440 or less on the math portion would be required to take the math COMPASS
Any student who scored 430 on just the critical reading or a combined less than 900 would be required to take the reading COMPASS
DEVELOPMENT EDUCATION
The average ACT is a composite of 21 (English, math, reading, science)
Students with a 12 or less on the English portion of the ACT are required to take the English COMPASS
Students with a 19 or less on the math portion of the ACT are required to take the math COMPASS
Students with an 18 or less on the reading portion of the ACT are required to take the reading COMPASS
While Xavier does take standardized test scores into account there are other factors that play into an admission decision.
COMMUNITY EDUCATION
Most of Xavier University students are majoring in science and health related fields, so there aren’t many opportunities offered for continuing education, but they do help the community outreach programs.

The Center for Minority Health and Health Disparities along with local, regional, and national partners seek to educate New Orleans residents in: Diabetes, heart disease, nutrition, men’s and
women’s health, and cancer

The center is a collaborative effort with the University of Tennessee’s College of Pharmacy and Tulane University’s Cancer Center
COMMUNITY EDUCATION
Other collaborations include: The Louisiana Office of Public Health
This office has partnered with Xavier to help in the study of diabetes, prevention, and control
The Louisiana Cancer Research Consortium The consortium is a continuous effort to allow the all of
the state research institutions to work together on cancer studies
“The Mission of the Center for Health and Health Disparities Research and Education (CMHDRE) is to provide the infrastructure that is required to conduct research and provide clinical experiential training and community outreach aimed at eliminating health disparities.”
