    f I fail this test, I can never get actual wings, said Xarla.

    I wonder what happened to those who failed. Xarla

    glanced at the other fairies. She gritted her teeth when

    she realized so many fairies were taking the test.

    My cousin failed his test, said ve.

    !hat happened to him" asked Xarla. #e was assigned to work with the

    $rownies, replied ve. %o remove mud and cover puddles.

    &ewww, Xarla cringed at the thought of $eing covered in sticky and

    stinky mud.

    My grandmother said it wasn*t like that ages ago, replied ve.

    I do not like the concrete $uildings and the noisy cars. !e have to $e

    cautious not to $ump into any of it. Xarla flinched when she heard honksfrom a car $elow them.

    )nce I $umped into a window and almost fainted, said ve. Xarla felt

    lucky that she was paired with ve for their test. (s a plant fairy, Xarlahad to inspect every plant that grew in the city and mend them if they

    were in $ad condition. ve was a water fairy. #er +o$ was to water the

    plants so they would not wither. Xarla hated the task $ecause it was not

    easy to find plants in an area full of skyscrapers and humans especially

    when many of the plants were not real. She really wished she could further

    her apprenticeship so that she would $ecome a forest fairy where she

    would only work in the forest.

    Xarla and ve went to the first plant they saw. It was anorchid flower on a window sill. She eamined the leaves

    %hey were a$out to leave when Xarla heard a voice, #i there, help me

    please. She traced the voice to one of the $ranches where she saw a

    caterpillar crawling on it.

    #i caterpillar, what are you doing here" asked Xarla in surprise.

    I fell asleep in the forest, and when I woke up, I was here in this

    $uilding, answered the caterpillar.

    (re you ok" -an you live in this" asked Xarla when

    she noticed that the caterpillar looked slightly pale.

    I can*t, I need to move to a fresh tree, said the

    caterpillar.

    I can, you +ust need to trust me, said Xarla. She gra$$ed the caterpillar

    and tried to lift it $ut her wings were not strong enough to carry them

    $oth. Xarla pressed an emergency $utton on her strap that caused her

    wings to flutter even faster. Xarla could not fly higher. She had to

    maneuver her way out through the stampede of humans. !hen they were

    on the street, her wings stopped fluttering and she had to immediately

    land on a sidewalk. She recharged her wings $y pulling the strings on her

    straps and took off right $efore a giant foot stepped on them.

    )nce she reached the park, she immediately searched for a good tree

    where the caterpillar could live. !hen she found the $est tree, she

    dropped the caterpillar there. %ake good care of yourself, said Xarla.

    %hank you for helping me, said the caterpillar. #ow I wish I could help

    you in return, added the caterpillar.
