WHAT TO EXPECT WHILE TAKING THE CERTIFICATION EXAMThe level 2 certification exam for Xactimate verifies that the user is proficient in using Xactimate.

CertifiCation exam ComponentsThis exam is broken into three different sections. The three sections are as follows:

    Interior and Roof Estimate

Individuals are required to use their own installed Xactimate (or the Demo version) to create an estimate. (Do not use Xactimate v.28 or any earlier version.) The estimate consists of a sketch and scope scenario that you must re-create. You will need this estimate to answer the questions found in the Practical Exam section. The Interior and Roof Estimate section is not timed, and you may exit and return to this portion of the exam as needed prior to beginning the timed portion of the exam.

The approximate time required to complete this section is 60–120 minutes, depending on your proficiency.

    EXAM: Practical Exam

This section of the exam will ask you 40 questions about to the estimate you created in the “Interior and Roof Estimate” section. These questions are specific to the scope, quantities, dimensions, and pricing from the estimate.

This section of the exam is timed, and shouldn’t take more than about 60–90 minutes to complete.

    EXAM: Knowledge Exam

This section of the exam will ask you 27 multiple-choice and true/false questions. These questions are related to Xactimate itself and how to use parts of Xactimate that don’t necessarily relate to the Estimate portion of Xactimate.

This section of the exam is timed, and shouldn’t take more than about 60–90 minutes to complete.

Passing grade is 70%. The time limit for the time portion of the exam is 180 minutes.

A scoring breakdown will be available upon completing the exam. It provides details for performance on each area of the exam.

TAKING THE CERTIFICATION PREP EXAMYou must have the most recent version of Xactimate available during the exam. Upon completing the exam, you can check your answers in the Answer Key Appendix at the back of this book.We recommend that you take the exam sections in the following order:

Interior and Roof Estimate: you will create two estimates in Xactimate—one interior estimate and one roof estimate—that you will use to answer the questions in the Practical Exam. These estimates include a sketch and an estimate scope for an interior loss, and a sketch and estimate scope for a roof loss. You must complete this portion of the exam prior to starting the Practical Exam as accurately as possible. When you are taking the actual certification exam, you will not be able to see the “Interior and Roof Estimate” instructions once you begin the Practical Exam; you will be solely reliant on the estimate that you created in Xactimate to answer the questions.

Practical Exam: you will be required to answer 39 questions. The questions will be based on the estimate that you create in the Interior and Roof Estimate.

Knowledge Exam: you will be required to answer 15 true/false and multiple choice questions that test your knowledge of Xactimate.

    PRACTICAL EXAM Practical Exam Overview

The Practical Exam of the exam asks questions about the estimate you created in the Interior and Roof section of this exam. .

In the real exam, you would not be able to review the Interior and Roof section while you are taking the Practical Exam; for this cert prep exam, you should refer to your Xactimate estimate for these answers.

You will be given 40 fill-in-the-blank questions. Do not include units of measure such as SF, LF, EA in any of your answers, as these would trigger an incorrect answer in the real exam. Round any decimals to the nearest one-hundredth of a decimal point (e.g., 123.45). Include subgroups in all answers.
