Julius Caesar became the most powerful man in Rome but, in 44BC, he was murdered by Marcus Brutus.



What happened in AD 43?



Using Verica’s request as an excuse to invade Britain, the Emperor Claudius began to put together a Roman Army of 40,000 soldiers.



How was it different this

time?



This time, the Romans had learned from Julius Caesar’s experiences. They had a better knowledge of the coast of Britain.

They were able to find a sheltered place to land where their ships would be safe from storms, and where they could secretly unload their soldiers and weapons.



What happened to

the resistance?



Caratacus was sent to Rome in chains and displayed before the people as a symbol of Roman victory.

When he looked in wonder at the city of Rome, Caratacus asked…… “Why, with all these great buildings, do you still want our poor huts?”
