Well how was 2017

Put this question to 10 people in a group and get 10 totally different answers primarily because no two peoplersquos lives are the same Events and circumstances affect each of us differently

I know that in my family we are all ready to ldquoclose the doorrdquo of 2017 and I know there are some of you reading this that feel the same way But at the same time we canrsquot help but wonder what 2018 might bring with it

Many may be jotting down resolutions for the new year in an effort to bring about some positive change in their lives and that really has some merit to set specific goals is always a good thing The difficulty is we tend to ldquoset our sights too highrdquo and discover that instead of setting ldquobaby steprdquo goals we gravitate to those ldquogiant leapsrdquo getting so discouraged that we just give up This then leads us to put ourselves down for failing to live up to our self-imposed expectations

I read an interesting article (wwwbeliefnetcom) the other day concerning some good ldquoresolutionsrdquo for believers that Irsquod like to share with you as perhaps possibilities for your own resolution making

Take It Easy You work hard and play hard but you probably also stress too hard and even think too hard This year give yourself a break from unnecessary stresses by slowing down Forget running er-rands all day on your Saturdays Instead give yourself the gift of a leisurely walk a Sunday night movie or an afternoon spent doing nothing and donrsquot feel guilty about ldquowasting timerdquo

Read the Bible Reading the Bible is not only a great way to get in touch with God but to relax and take time for yourself as well Spending your evenings taking some time to re-read your favorite verse in the Biblehellip or find a new one (1) to help you get motivated for the New Year There is definitely an amazing verse just waiting to become your mantra for living better in 2018

Go Gadget Free Yes I know your smartphone is fun and itrsquos a great way to stay in touch with your friends and family but it can also become an addiction Make a rule for yourself that involves turning off all computers cell phones tablets etc at least once a week (Sunday seems like the perfect day) At first this may seem like itrsquos hinder-ing you from making connections but itrsquos actually going to help you make even deeper connections with those around you

Remove Negative Elements January is the perfect time of year to give up all the things hold-ing you back from your best self yet From negative friends to bad habits itrsquos time to clear out all of the things you spent 2017 complaining about Make a list of anything and everything you

find negative in your life and remove them while you can Now is the time to make yourself happy so do it

Add Positive Energy While yoursquore removing all the negatives from your life fill the void left behind with positive people and hobbies Think about your funniest most caring friends and ask them to lunch Or help yourself to stop obsessing with those things yoursquore giving up by keeping a journal of positivity Every time you feel the temptation to fall back to the negative head to your journal to jot in everything yoursquore thankful for in your life Take up new hobbies or pick up one that yoursquove kinda let slide over the past year

Perhaps another resolution might be for each of us to re-evaluate our relationship with God and our involvement in the churchrsquos mission to reach out to the greater community

Whichever direction you decide to go in 2018 my prayer for you that you allow God through His Spirit to guide you throughout the coming year

May your New Year be one of Grace Peace amp Blessing Rick

New ldquoAlternativerdquo Wednesday Night Study

Moses Rahab Jacob Esther Peter Sarah Each one possessed significant character flaws or committed sins that seemed to threaten their usefulness in Godrsquos kingdom Yet God used these less-than-perfect people to do incredible things

In this study author Tony Evans chronicles Godrsquos sovereign work in the lives of these six biblical characters to redeem their failures and make them useful for His purposes God wants to do the same for you No matter what mistakes or poor decisions yoursquove made God can redeem your past and set you on the path to a glorious new future

For every mistake therersquos forgiveness For every false start therersquos a new beginning For every failure therersquos hope Because with God Itrsquos Not Too Late
