Genre analysis of Taylor swift shakes it off:

In Taylor Swift music video shake it off it features an attractive trendy cast to make the music video more appealing to watch and keep up with the new trends of the young generation showing its genre. The backup dancer looks the same age range of Taylor swift which not only makes it attractive but the it also shows that Taylor Swift is of an age where she is independent and likes to party. The care free attitude is a stereotype of the pop genre where everyone rebels and the entire young generation go wild shown clearly within the music video.

Taylor Swift shake It off music video contains characteristics used within the music video which represents pop genre is the bright colours used which is a theme of mise-en-scene shown when Taylor swift and the backup dancers are dancing. The bright striking colours used when the style of dancing keeps the audience interested throughout the video as colours are very crucial when it comes to advertising or wanting to show something to an audience as it shows the mood of what you are presenting. For example dark dull music will bore the audience and won’t be as interested as the bright colours showing excitement to the music video and the fast pace music makes the audience feel to get up and dance as well due to its energetic upbeat music.

Taylor Swift Shake it off music video, uses long shot of the mise- en scene such as costumes to show the genre characteristics in the music video. We are introduced to Taylor swift wearing black tight trousers and a red and white hoody and a black snap back hat. This shows that Taylor swift and the backup dancers are aiming the video at young teenagers because the clothes that Taylor and the backup dancers are wearing is what nowadays the majority of the teenagers wear now as it is the new trend and Taylor wants to draw in the youngsters to watch the music video as she knows this is what the young generation likes. The Red clothing connotes the rebel and badness of the teenagers as it is represented through colours and the care free dance movements.

twerking. Twerking is a dance move which became popular by Miley Cyrus in 2013 which was still recently. The modern dance theme shows that twerking is popular with the younger generation as it has become one of the famous dance themes only recently. This shows that most teenagers are aware of this dance movement and because it is in Taylor Swift music video, it is common for females within the targeted audience and generation to be influenced by this dance movement.

The link between the genre and lyrics clearly corresponds to how post modernism is used within this music video. Towards the end of this music video we clearly see Taylor Swift dancing and intuiting a wide range of audience on set. The use of cynicism shows us the influence between the people used within this music video as Taylor Swift sings ‘Shake it off’ and the rhythm gets more and more intense. ‘Shake if off’ may portray stress relief through dancing and this is what is clearly shown as every character in this music video are all dancing as if there letting go of something.
