HOLMES LEADS THE WAY• Junior Guard Bria Holmes was named
the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year as voted on by the league’s head coaches. Additionally, Holmes was tabbed to the Preseason All-Big 12 team.
• The New Haven, Connecticut native was also honored as a First Team Preseason All-American by Lindy’s Magazine.
• ESPN listed Holmes as the nation’s 16th best player for the 2014-15 season.
• Holmes was a unanimous All-Big 12 First Team selection last year in leading WVU to a share of their first Big 12 women’s
basketball regular season title. • She was also an Associated Press All-
American honorable mention, as well as a Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship All-Tournament Team recipient.

record at home over the past five years. • The Mountaineers have only lost twice at
home against non-conference foes once during that stretch (2011-12).

OPENING ON THE RIGHT NOTE• West Virginia women’s basketball opened
its 42nd season on Nov. 15 with a 67-42 win over Eastern Kentucky. The Mountaineers own a 27-15 all-time record in season openers and have won seven out of its last eight. Coach Mike Carey has a 11-3 record in season openers.
• The Mountaineers are an impressive 32-10 in home openers. WVU has won 14 out of its last 15 home-opening affairs. Carey’s teams are 13-1 at home under his watch.

RETURN OF VETERAN LEADERS• WVU has three veteran seniors that will
lead the way.• Guard Linda Stepney started 34-of-35
games last season and dished out a team-leading 107 assists. The Norfolk, Virginia product averaged 5.1 points and 3.3 rebounds in 23.9 minutes last season.
• Averee Fields, a forward from Murray, Kentucky, boasted 7.6 points and corralled 5.2 boards per game in 35 games last season. Fields notched 46 steals for the year, which was second only to Bria Holmes.
• Crystal Leary proved to be a strong asset of the bench last season, pulling in 3.7 boards per game and scoring 2.9 points a contest. Leary, also a native of Norfolk, had a strong 66.1 percent field goal percentage, knocking down 33-of-54 shots attempted.
• Center Lanay Montgomery saw action in 24 games last year, boasting 1.7 points and 2.0 rebounds per game.
PLENTY OF NEW FACES• There are six student-athletes that will don
the Old Gold and Blue for the first time.• WVU welcomes two players from the
junior college ranks: Kayla Montgomery (Gulf Coast State) and Jessica Morton (Gulf Coast State).
• Georgia Tech transfer Bre McDonald is eligible this season after sitting out a year due to NCAA transfer rules.
• Guards Dominique Simpson (Orlando, Fla.) and Tyara Warren (Plano, Texas) are true freshmen expected to play.
• Meanwhile, fans can get a good look at Teana Muldrow for the first time after she took a redshirt in 2013-14.
• Associate Head Coach Chester Nichols rejoined the WVU staff after two seasons at Michigan. Nichols previously served as an assistant at WVU from 2004-09.

West Virginia is ranked in both the Associated Press and USA TODAY Sport Coaches preseason polls.
• WVU was ranked in both preseason polls in for the first time since 2012-13.
MODEL OF CONSISTENCY• West Virginia made a school-record fifth
consecutive NCAA appearance last year. West Virginia reached as high as No. 5 in the Associated Press Poll and No. 7 in last year’s USA Today Coaches’ Poll.
• The Mountaineers enter the season having made 10 postseason appearances in the last 11 years. Coach Mike Carey’s squads have notched eight 21-win seasons in the last 11 years and eight NCAA appearances in the last 11 years.

Credential pickup is located at the Red Gate and opens one hour prior to each game.
GAMEDAYParking is free and open to the public in the Coliseum parking lot. Parking passes will be provided for only games that coincide with WVU men’s basketball games.
The working press area is located on the east side of the main floor at concourse level (22 rows from the playing floor). Press should enter through the Blue Gate with their credentials. Forty-eight seats are available for working media; four television slings are also available. West Virginia grants broadcast rights to the official radio outlet of the visiting team on reciprocal basis. Accredited photographers may work along the playing floor at both baselines behind the restriction line established by the NCAA. Cutline writers or equipment carriers are not permitted on the playing floor.

Complete statistics are provided to all working media at halftime and postgame. Requested team members and coach Carey will be available for interviews following a 15-minute grace period.

RADIO COVERAGEThe Mountaineer Sports Network from IMG will air every women’s basketball game on radio stations throughout West Virginia and on WVUsports.com with announcer Jeff Culhane on the call.
JEFF CULHANE, PLAY-BY-PLAY
Culhane joins the Mountaineer family for his second season, following a six-year stint with the Nebraska Husker Sports Network. In his first season as the women’s basketball play-by-play voice, Culhane is also responsible for the Mountaineer football pre and postgame shows and play-by-play for WVU baseball.
A native of Mitchell, South Dakota, Culhane is a graduate of Dakota Wesleyan University, where he played football and baseball as a two-time NAIA All-America Scholar Athlete.

Former WVU great Meg Bulger enters her second year as color commentator for the Mountaineer Sports Network from IMG. She donned the Old Gold and Blue during the 2004-06 and 2008 seasons. Bulger ranks fifth all-time on WVU’s all-time scoring list with 1,665 points. After the conclusion of her WVU career, Bulger was drafted by the WNBA’s Sacramento Monarchs. As a color analyst, Bulger has worked stints with ESPNU and ROOT SPORTS. A native of Pittsburgh, Bulger married former professional baseball player Jim Gallagher. The couple have a daughter Nola. The family resides in Durham, N.C.
