Catalogue Export 2009Parts & accessories for all BMW models from 1993 onwards

An additional comment:We are very pleased that many female bikers use our products. We would like to ask these “bikeresses” not to take offence if some texts in this catalogue use the male form, for instance “his” instead of “his/hers”. This is only done in order to simplify the texts, especially as many products in our line-up are a direct result of input received from our female staff members and test riders.

We are happy and proud to present to you our new Export Catalogue 2009. Since the last catalogue came out in 2006 there have been many new bike models added by

BMW, and subsequently many more parts have been developed by us. We have added the new models and their newly developed parts to the new catalogue; with over 650 pages and thousands of images, this is the most comprehensive catalogue of its kind.

Why are accessories needed? Generally, BMW motorcycles are well equipped. Our aim though is to allow each model to be individualised so that the rider enjoys better riding comfort, added safety, improved appearance and increased riding fun.

Our ERGO parts program is designed to substantially improve the riding comfort. ERGO seats, handle bar risers, screens, adjustable control levers, footrest lowerings and a host of other ERGO parts allow you to choose a more comfortable riding position and have superior weather protection – that way even long distance touring is much more enjoyable.

Our engine protection bars, mudguard extensions, reservoir covers, mudguard extensions and much more protect you and your bike from damage. In many cases, our wide selection of guards and protectors will significantly reduce the cost of repairs in case of a fall.

Those who would like to improve the appearance of their bike will not be disappointed. Our parts program includes many stylish parts developed with great attention to detail, these will enhance your bike and make it stand out from the rest.See and be seen! In the current worsening traffic conditions this becomes ever more important to bike riders. Our auxiliary lights illuminate dark roads far better than before, and ensure that you are much more visible during the day to other traffic users – a gain in active and passive safety.

Better handling and more power? There are not many motorcyclists

who would object to that… We have a good selection of high quality performance parts for your motor, brakes and chassis, all thoroughly tested by our racing activities and long distance testing rides - you can read in the “Wunderlich Touring and Racing” section in the catalogue about some of these adventures.

A good portion of our catalogue is dedicated to luggage and touring equipment. Our own love for touring and long distance travelling has been used to good effect to continually develop and refine our various bags and luggage solutions.

Lastly, the “Accessories” section at the end of the catalogue includes many additional parts, service items and accessories for your bike, and also some parts that are not for the vehicle but for you, the rider, to enjoy.

We hope that you will enjoy reading this catalogue and that you find some interesting items for your bike.

Yours, Erich Wunderlich

ERGO Seats

The original 1200 GS and Adventure seats are not really bad, but not well suited for long distance riding since the soft seat foam has no damping reserves left after a while. We have designed a completely new seat pan made of light composite hybrid material that sits as close to the frame as possible so a larger foam cushion can be used. The ERGO seat is one of the most important parts of our program to improve the seating and riding position, because a large foam cushion allows the seat to have damping reserves and the best possible shape to support the lower back. Hand-made, progressive construction (2 layers), 100% waterproof and finished with a non-slip sur-face. The ergonomic comfortable shape and choice of denser materials ensure that there is still damping reserves left in the seat after long rides, compared to the soft foam used in the original seat. Rider seats are available in two versions, “VarioERGO” or “LowERGO”, and both can be height adjusted (3 positions).

For 1200 GS + Adventure (all models)

LowERGO Rider SeatThis seat is 30 mm (~1.2”) lower than the original seat. It is easier to reach the ground with the feet and it features all the advantages and comforts of the Wunderlich ERGO seats. Adjusted to the lowest position it is even lower than the non-adjustable BMW low seat, and in the highest position it is the same height as the normal seat. (R 1200 GS > 810 - 840 mm, Adventure > 830 - 860 mm)

“VarioERGO” The long distance touring alternative to the original BMW seat. Offers a larger adjusting range (830-860 mm). Tip: Because the knee angle is reasonably good for many riders in the lowest position, sitting lower on long trips offers even better wind protection.

Dual Seat 1200 GS + Adventure

This one-piece seat has proven itself on the Agadir Rally with our rider, Dirk Thelen. It allows quick shifting of the weight forward or backwards, especially important when off-road rid-ing. On longer stages the rider can change the seating posi-tion and stretch his/her legs without much disruption. Other than that it features all the benefits and improvements of the Wunderlich ERGO seats: A completely new seat pan made of light composite hybrid material that sits as close to the frame as possible so a larger foam cushion can be used. Be-cause the ERGO seat is one of the most important parts of our program to improve the seating and riding position, a large foam cushion allows the seat to have damping reserves and the best possible shape to support the lower back. The unit is hand-made, with progressive construction (2 layers), 100% waterproof and finished with a non-slip surface. The ergonomic comfortable shape and choice of denser materials ensure that there is still damping reserve left in the seat after long rides compared to the soft foam used in the original seat. 100% long distance touring capability! The seat inte-grates very nicely with the shape of the GS and makes it look even more dynamic than before.

Wunderlich Test Ride Service

Most of our international dealers offer the Wunderlich Test Ride Service. This means you can fit and ride with one of our screens or seats on your bike, before deciding which one you like best. Ask your local Wunderlich dealer for details.

Included is an additional bolt-on metal guide for pre 2007 models that have lost/broken the original piece.

Seat Guide

Many GS owners think twice before taking the rider seat off, because they know what’s coming next. We’ve all heard the poor souls’ spine-chilling wail born out of sheer frustration while trying to re-fit the seat again and again. The dreadful seat locking mechanism drove us, too, to the brink of clinical insanity - we simply had to do something about it! Luckily for all GS riders “Doctor” Wunderlich came up with the effective cure: Simply attach the metal guides to the bike and the seat slides into position and locks almost on its own!Models up to 2007 have often already lost the insufficiently secured original small plastic guide, which made attaching the seat even worse. For these cases we have included a strong replacement guide that’s bolted to the main body and closes the gap. Once the sliders are fitted they stay permanently at-tached to the bike and make sure that taking the seat off and refitting it is an easy and stress-free task.

Note: Suitable for all Wunderlich ERGO and original BMW seats, but not for original BMW “LOW” (820 mm) seat.

ERGO-Screen R 1200 GS

Maximum Comfort and protection for the GS. The original screen is not bad, but has its limitations, especially at higher riding speeds. This screen has been designed to lean more towards the rider to achieve the best possible rider protec-tion. This is the ultimate screen for high speed, comfortable cruising: • Reduced load on head, upper body and shoulders.• 515 mm/20.3” high compared to original 365 mm/14.4” (GS) and 460

mm/18.1” (Adventure). Also, it’s much wider at the base.• 6 mm (~1/4”) thick screen material. Special manufacturing process allows

screen to be used without heavy strengthening brackets.• ScreenSave Vario included for additional adjustment range. Now the best

position for virtually any rider and preference can be found.• Easy to fit and adjust.• Adjustment as before, but more effective results.• Equalizes the negative pressure and reduces turbulence and buffeting• Designed especially with the GS style in mind, the screen looks like part of

the bike.• Tough and clear fuel resistant Lexan material• Available in “Clear” or in grey “Smoked” tinted versions.• ABE approved.

All in all, this screen offers the best possible protection for the rider, with the help of the additional adjustment offered by the ScreenSave Vario adjuster (included). Any rider can find a good angle and position for any riding style required.

Xtreme-Screen R 1200 GS

This screen is 465 mm high (18.3”) and is therefore exactly midway between the original screen (365 mm/14.4”) and the Wunderlich ERGO screen (515 mm/20.3”). This screen is the ideal “middle” screen for those who want better wind protection but still want to have a relatively small screen. This screen is especially suitable for off-road, because its ex-tremely strong construction and special fabrication method ensure its stability.

• Even in the lowest adjustment position improved protection, even at high speeds.

• Less turbulence, less wind noise and less helmet buffeting.• Fits exactly like original screen, but has slightly changed leaning angle for

better adjustment position.• 6 mm (~1/4”) thick strong and tough fuel resistant Lexan material.• Available in “Clear” or in grey “Smoked” tinted versions.• ABE approved.

Our 11,500 km (7100 mi) Siberia tour was the perfect testing ground for this screen, and it proved to be very effective. All tests were made with riders who were 1.80 – 1.90 m tall and high position seat. If the seat is lowered or the rider is smaller, the properties are even more improved.

Vario Sport Screen

An excellent touring screen that has a built in spoiler (deflec-tor) that can be adjusted in angle and position. This allows the rider to find a set up suitable for any rider and riding situ-ation. Correctly adjusted it will deflect the wind away from the rider. The gap between the deflector and the screen al-lows some air flow beneath the deflector, equalizing pressure and greatly reducing turbulence and buffeting that is often present with conventional screens. This screen is equally ap-pealing for sport or touring riders and will provide a pleasant and fun riding experience. Made of strong, very clear and fuel resistant material. ABE approved.

“Motorradfahrer” 4/2007:

“...on adjustment posi-tion 6 excellent wind protection; upper body is completely free of wind, no turbulence even at

top speed. Noise: On the lowest position acceptable; the noise level decreases the more the screen is adjusted to a steeper angle. Handling: Despite the large surface area very stable at high speed. Visibility: Very good visibility, slight distortion but only at the “ears” on each side. Upper edge of screen is at the height of the eyes with screen adjusted to highest position. Conclusion: Comprehensive wind and weather protection combined with moderate background noise; occasional use of a cleaning rag ensures a relaxed ride even at high speeds.

Carbon-Look

Vario Screen

Not “either/or” but both. Thanks to the height adjustment it’s a sport and a touring screen in one. This is a two part screen, where the top portion is vertically adjustable. The screen‘s height can be quickly and easily adjusted by loosening the two thumb screws and sliding the upper section to the de-sired position. Some air flows beneath the upper part of the shield, equalizing pressure and greatly reducing turbulence and buffeting. The easy and fast adjustment has the benefit of allowing the screen to be matched to various riders and riding conditions. For instance, on hot days the screen can be lowered to enjoy better cooling, and on long touring or wet days the screen is fully extended. When riding off road tracks, lowering the screen helps to see the front wheel as well. The screen is made of a robust, optically clean and fuel resistant material. ABE approved. Height: 410 – 455 mm (16.1 - 17.9”)

Flowjet + JararacaFor road or off road use, or as part of a styl-ish conversion, see the “Jararaca” conversion pages further on in this section for details and pictures.

Windshield “Flowjet”

Some riders do not like the turbulence created by the origi-nal screen and like to feel the wind on their faces. However, removing the screen completely is not advised as there is no protection for the instruments and the wind pressure can be excessive in the long run. Designed as part of the Jararaca conversion, this stand-alone part can be fitted very quickly and easily and will give the bike a new, more aggressive styl-ing. The screen manages to combine a surprisingly good basic protection level without compromising the design features. The screen is adjustable for the best possible result. Con-structed of high quality, tough plastic, making this part ideal for off road riding and offering excellent protection for the instruments. Available in matt black or silver plastic (matches the colour of the frame), or coated with a special “Carbon-Look” layer. The silver plastic is coated with a high gloss layer that gives it a paint like quality. All can be painted, but spe-cial paint has to be used. Ask your local paint shop for details. The screen comes ready to fit, with all fittings supplied.

JARARACA Test 22/05The “Flowjet” protects sur-prisingly well, offers honest wind protection without tur-bulence with a relative low noise level.

Off Road TipWhen mostly off road riding is planned we only use the FlowJet, as it is safer in case of a fall, lets more fresh air reach the rider and is incred-ibly robust.

We have developed an own coating design for “Carbon-Look” parts to ensure that our “Carbon-Look” parts match the colour and pattern of real carbon fibre parts in our range.

Touring-Sport Screen 1200 GS

Short is beautiful. This screen is an interesting alternative for those who do not want to have a very large screen. Even though this screen is fairly short the wind pressure on the up-per body is evenly reduced. The pressure on the helmet/head is also surprisingly low up to medium high speeds, turbulence is minimal. The advantages of short screens is that they allow unobstructed view to the road ahead even in very dusty con-ditions, and you can also easily see the front wheel (for off road purposes). In addition, on hot summer days the screen allows wind to reach the rider for some much appreciated cooling. Made of robust, optically clean and fuel resistant material. TÜV approved.

ProgresSystem Touring Screen

A progressive solution for all requirements. For long distance touring the full screen offers outstanding protection, far su-perior to the original Adventure screen. For short local trips the top screen is easily removed, what remains is a snappy sport screen that provides good protection for the upper body despite its short dimensions. Turbulences are almost non ex-istent.

The Facts:• 2 screen system: Long screen for touring, short screen for short tours• Very wide screen to reduce wind pressure on arms.• Quick and easy to change between screens.• Very stiff construction.• Designed specifically for the GS.• Very tough, rigid optically clean Lexan material. Fuel and oil resistant.• Lightweight screen, material thickness of only 4 mm (1/8”) because of the

additional support and double screen construction.• Rubber mounting to reduce vibration.• TÜV approved

Short screen: • Unobstructed view of road and front wheel (off road).• Allows cooling wind to reach rider on hot days.• No turbulence.

Tall Screen:• Best protection.• 512 mm/20.2” high compared to original 365 mm/14.4” (GS) and 460

mm/18.1” (Adventure). Also, it’s much wider at the base at transition to the hand protectors.

• The gap between the two screens allows a stream of air to reduce negative pressure and turbulence.

• “Clean” shape without lines and distortion.

Made of clear and optically clean Lexan material, virtually in-destructible.

ScreenSave Vario

A strong and robust replacement for the original plastic centre screen mounts. With these machined aluminium brackets the screen is now connected strongly to the metal bracket, which also reduces the side to side movement of the screen. Ad-ditionally, a 20 mm (~13/16“) slot has been added, allowing the gap between the screen and instruments to be adjusted. This helps the rider to find the best setting for the air flow from the inside of the screen to equalize the negative pres-sure and reduce turbulence and buffeting. It also increases the overall adjustment range of the screen. Both sides are connected with a threaded rod, allowing them to be adjusted so that no side clearance to the metal bracket is present. The adjustment of a slight side pressure on the metal bracket makes sure that the screen cannot move sideways any more and the rattling and vibrating is reduced. The overall stability of the screen is greatly enhanced compared to the loosely fitting original plastic brackets. Made of precision machined aluminium alloy. Comes as a complete set, and fits the origi-nal and aftermarket screens*.

Tobinator 1200 GS

The Tobinator is a very clever and popular solution to annoy-ing buffeting for many GS riders world-wide. The Tobinator allows a huge range of adjustment to be made to either the original or any Wunderlich wind screen. The long slots on the upper brackets allow a huge range of adjustment at angles ranging from 20° – 65°, thus the gap on the bottom changes so that air is permitted to flow beneath the shield, reducing turbulence caused by negative pressure. Compared to bolt-on spoiler screens, which put a considerable amount of extra load on the screens, fitting the Tobinator will not cause stress damage to your screen. The kit consists of two CNC machined high quality, anodized aluminium up-per brackets. The lower brackets are made completely of high quality stainless steel and replace the vulnerable and loose-fitting original plastic parts, and make sure the screen has a strong mounting point and does not vibrate as much. Sold as a complete set with all screws.

Quick Release Clamp Bolts

Riding long off road tracks is usually done while standing up. The problem with this is that the brake and clutch le-vers are difficult to reach. The resulting wrist angle is very uncomfortable and also it is difficult to pull the levers with enough force, which is a safety issue as well. However, if the handlebars are rotated forward the levers are in a much better position. To adjust the lever position on their own every time is time consuming and does require tools. Our quick release clamp bolts with integrated ratchet mechanism allow light-ning quick, tool-free adjustment of the bar angle. With this solution changing between road/off road riding is pure fun!

Note: Not for bikes fitted with original BMW navigation sys-tem or switches bolted on to the handlebar clamps – see our MultiPod in the Accessories section for a solution.

These risers give the option for three different handle bar positions, allowing the rider to adjust the riding position for different situations. The positions are easily changed without the need to completely remove the handlebars. In position 1 the bars are just raised by 30 mm (~1.2”), and positions 2 + 3 also move the bars 16 or 32 mm (~0.6 or 1.3”) back towards the rider. As the handlebar tilt angle can be changed as well, a large range of adjustment is possible, for instance for stand-ing-up off road riding. Machined from high quality Aluminium and anodised black. An exclusive, user friendly and ergonomic lever revolution: We have developed a brake and clutch lever which is adjustable for both reach and length and can be dialled in for individual riding needs. Simply loosen the fixing screw and the lever length can be changed. Especially for bikes with the strong power assisted Integral ABS brake systems a shorter lever al-lows better “feel”. With the VarioLever it is possible to brake with two or three fingers without squashing the other fingers. This goes for the clutch as well. Fully extended, the lever is about the same length as the original, and the full braking force can be applied. An additional new feature is the easy adjustability of the lever reach, which can easily be applied while riding. This adjustment is traditionally used in racing but also important on fast mountain riding where adjustment of the lever is required to compensate for brake fade. Even with thick winter gloves the large adjustment wheel can eas-ily be turned with an outstretched index finger. The levers are precision CNC machined out of top quality aluminium alloy (AL 7075 T6) as often used in aircraft or space applications and are therefore extremely strong. Even with a fully extended lever a force of over 60 kg/ 132 lb (!) can be applied without problems on the outer tip. The anodised aluminium lever con-struction allowed us a multitude of colour combinations, and we have put together a selection of 6 of the nicest looking variations.

Lifting Handle 1200 GS

This handle makes lifting the bike onto the centre stand much easier, especially when the bike is fully loaded. The folding mechanism allows the grippy handle to be deployed quickly, and when not in use it is tucked away neatly. The mount-ing position on the rear footrest tube allows the position to be adjusted depending on rider height. Made of aluminium, anodised silver or black. CruiseControl

This is a simple but effective CruiseControl solution. On long riding stints the throttle hand can become tired and cramped; however, with the CruiseControl installed this becomes less of a problem. The CruiseControl is fitted instead of the right hand side end weight, and simply by turning the adjustment wheel, the CruiseControl applies pressure onto the twist grip. The adjustment wheel has wide-spaced teeth that allow easy turning even while wearing a glove, so it can be dialled for exactly the required pressure. To disable, simply turn the ad-justment wheel the other direction, and in a matter of sec-onds the twist grip returns to normal function. Available in two versions:

1) Black coated steel body “CruiseControl” with blue anodised aluminium adjustment wheel. Replaces the right side bar end weight (the left side end weight stays original).

2) Alu Light Weight Kit, consists of a silver anodised light weight aluminium body “CruiseControl” with a blue adjust-ment wheel, as well as matching silver aluminium left side bar end weight.

Rider Footrest Lowering

The original riding position of the GS is not universally com-fortable for all riders, tall riders have different requirements than small riders. These footrests are a part of our “Ergo” pro-gram of handle bar risers, seats and adjustable control levers, with which we are providing the components for each rider to “fine-tune” the riding position and posture to his or her own personal needs. For the 1200 models we wanted a better knee angle, but without having to move the feet outwards. To achieve this we had to make a completely new footrest. The footrest is made of high quality aluminium and will withstand the highest loads. For better comfort the original rubber foot-rest insert can be used. For off road use the optional enlarger can be attached (not included, order separately). Cornering clearance is not affected, even though the footrest is lowered by 25 mm (~1”). Sold as a complete set of left and right side footrests. TÜV approved. The Facts:• 25 mm (~1”) lower than original.• Long distance touring more enjoyable because knees are less bent.• Quality materials for ultimate strength.• With world known TÜV approval.• Optional enlarger available.

This enlarger set fits the Wunderlich rider footrest lowering (not originals) and increases the contact area of the riders’ boots. The circumferential teeth of the enlarger “bite” the sole of your boots and ensure that you got the best grip in any riding situation. Easy to fit, sold as a complete set for left and right side. Wunderlich TestingHow do we test our parts? Other than the TÜV approval and rac-ing activities we regularly go out on punishing testing trips to all ends of the continent and beyond. Good roads, bad roads, off road, potholes, ice/extreme heat and unavoidable crashes - we do it all! Read our travel and adventure reports (after the accessories section) for details.

Passenger Footrest Lowering Set

The original riding position of the GS/Adventure passenger is not universally comfortable for most due to the relatively high position of the foot pegs. Fitting the Wunderlich lowering set will move the footrest 60 mm (~2.4”) down, and this change in footrest position will increase the knee and hip angle, a benefit especially when touring. Better blood circulation and less cramps will make long riding stints much more enjoyable. The original foot pegs are retained, the original side cases can be used and no modifications to bike are needed at all. The kit consists of a left and right side adapter. Made of silver anodised CNC machined high quality aluminium and comes with all components needed. A flexible and adjustable footrest mounting system. The 3 different Vario Plate options allow the footrests to be mounted in a radius of 23, 30 or 50 mm (0.9, 1.18 or 1.96”). The round, grippy footrests used in this conversion (not rub-ber mounted) ensure that whatever the chosen position, the rider always has the same 100 % solid contact point with the boot. For each rider or passenger set you need to order one adapter set, one vario plate set and one footrest set. ABE approved. Please note: Due to the nature of this conversion the footrests are moved further out than standard. Depending on the chosen configuration/footrest position this may cause vastly reduced cornering clearances. Please ride accordingly!

Dirk Thelen on a Wunderlich BMW R 1200 GR-WR takes 4th position in the 2005 Agadir Rally!

In the first professional entry of a Wunderlich prepared BMW R 1200 GS rider Dirk Thelen achieved a sensational 4th position in the Licensed Rider category. Under normal circumstances Dirk should not even have contemplated starting in the 135 strong field with the 2 cylinder bike. The closest large capacity machine participating was a KTM 520 Hard-Enduro, which is a testimony to the high quality + difficulty level of the event. “Even before the start the promoter, himself a past participant in the Paris Dakar Rally with a BMW, advised me against starting. There were apparently at least two narrow passages where the wide Boxer would not have a chance passing through”. Nevertheless, Dirk was not to be discouraged and completed the 3 day event consisting of 670 kilometres and 8 special stages with distinction. Overall he spent more than 20 hours riding the 1200 GS-WR, which came through the ordeal extremely well due to extensive modifications. “I think I’ve put the GS through more than a normal competition bike under the same conditions. I didn’t have any technical problems and did not use any spare parts, only the fairings suf-fered a few scuffs” commented a clearly proud Dirk Thelen after the race, who left a lasting impression on his fellow competitors. This is also true for the 1200 GS-WR. The WILBERS suspension giving 40 mm (~1.6”) extended ground clearance had an answer for everything the difficult sand and gravel stages could throw at it. Some of the many parts fitted:• WILBERS Suspension with adjustable pre load, damping and rebound damping adjust-

Adjustable Folding Gear Shift Lever

The original gear lever is fairly long and can only be shifted with boot size 47. Our adjustable gear lever has a 3 cm ad-justment range, and together with the height adjustment al-lows any rider to find the best set up, whatever size riding boots are used. Missing gears because of bad shifts and pos-sible damage are things of the past. Additionally, it features a spring loaded hinged tip that will fold back in case of a fall. This could prevent damage to the gear shaft or breakage of the lever, which could cause serious disruption to any journey not to speak of the cost of repairs… The lever is beautifully machined of solid high quality alu-minium alloy and has a hard wearing silver anodised surface finish.

Brake Lever Enlarger

It‘s important to be able to find the rear brake pedal when you need it! This machined aluminium plate simply bolts onto the rear brake pedal with no modifications needed. It substantial-ly increases the size of the rather small original brake pedal and provides a greater margin of safety and level of comfort. The deep cut serrations provide excellent grip, especially im-portant on wet days. The top plate is bolted securely with two bolts (all supplied) to the counter part, which has threads cut in an angle to ensure exact fitting. Anodised silver. Once you fit it, you won’t go back….

Exclusive by WunderlichWe are very proud to be the world wide exclusive distributor for RIZOMA BMW products. RIZOMA is a manufacturer of extremely high quality motorcycle accessories with a unique style and perfect finish. The cooperation begins already with product devel-opment. We share our know-how and the results are fantastic looking designer parts and top quality production standards. RIZOMA understands like no other to combine design with emotion, every part is almost like a piece of art and integrates perfectly into the design of the bike. It does not matter if it is a rear view mirror, a complicated machined foot rest system or a see-through generator cover, all parts are lovingly designed and professionally crafted. The Italy based manufacturer makes the parts out of solid high quality Billet aluminium which are then either anodised or polished to a perfect high gloss finish. It ensures that any RIZOMA part fitted to your bike will positively stand out. The company philosophy states: The creation of something totally unique for your motorcycle. To realise new ideas for your passion is what drives us. Which means that we can wait in anticipation for future parts!

RIZOMA Paralever Torque arm “Vario”

This part is a visual and technical metal art masterpiece. It will transform your “GS” into a nimble curve bandit or alter-natively, into a solid and stable tourer. RIZOMA replaces the plain looking original torque arm with a part that compli-ments the nice design lines of the final drive housing. Ad-ditionally, the practical length adjustment allows you to find the best handling option for your riding style. The adjustment mechanism is positioned at the rear part of the torque arm, and removable inserts give the choice of 3 different torque arm lengths:

• “Short”: -5 mm (-0.19”) for a nimble and quick handling bike• “Medium”, same length as original• “Long”: +5 mm (+0.19”) for maximum riding stability

Precision machined from solid high quality aluminium mate-rial with an excellent surface finish. Complete with fitting kit. TÜV approved.

RIZOMA Levers

Not many know how to turn a lump of metal into a motorcycle part that is a work of art like RIZOMA does. Not only do these levers add visual value to the bike, they also fit perfectly to the hand. Machined from high quality Billet-aluminium and then anodised. The construction and design details confirm RIZOMAS’ race credentials:

• Normal levers start to move at high speeds due to wind pressure; the RIZOMA levers have a special machined vent at the lever end to relieve pressure.

• Lightweight but strong construction• Stepless racing style lever adjustment• Built in hinge in case of a fall• Each lever machined from solid Billet material• Easy to fit.• Each lever is available in silver or black colour versions.

RIZOMA Mirrors

Only RIZOMA can manage to stylistically improve a BMW just with the help of a set of mirrors; the original mirrors are not a match for these lovingly crafted beauties. They also add on the safety aspect as each mirror has a convex glass that removes much of the blind spot present in the original. Additionally, the special mirror glass incorporates a light blue anti-glare layer that reduces sun and light reflections to a minimum. The RIZOMA mirrors have a standard 130 mm (5.1”) long stem (roughly same length as original), which already provides a better rear view compared to the existing mirrors. If needed, the length can be extended to about 150 mm (5.9”) with the extension piece (order separately, not included). All parts are machined from solid, high quality Billet aluminium and either polished or anodised in various colours.

Important: All parts need to be ordered separately, for one mir-ror assembly please order: 1 Mirror Body (two types available), 1 Mirror Stem and 1 Adapter (and one extension if needed).

Top Yoke Thermometer

An easy to fit replacement, with a new design especially for the new 1200 generation. This high quality part is not only an attractive replacement for the original, plain looking black plastic plug in the centre of your top yoke, it also enables you to read the ambient temperature that you are riding through. This is especially useful when riding in cold weather because it can give you an idea how close you are to the freezing point and make you aware of the potential for ice on the road. To in-stall, simply remove the plastic cap and insert this part in its place. It is held in place with an “O”-ring; and the clever de-sign features a vent which equalizes pressure and prevents the gauge from pushing out because of temperature and elevation changes. The dial resembles the Boxer instrument design and features both Celsius and Fahrenheit scales. The back of the thermometer has a watch-like stainless steel cover. A small recess on the side aides removal. Silver anodised.

Note: The temperature reading may vary from the actual outer temperature due to its fitted position (direct sun etc).

Aluminium Instrument Surround

This is a sharp upgrade in an area that‘s in constant view whilst riding. The part is fitted around the dull black original instruments and displays and it immediately transforms the appearance of the cockpit. Also, the instruments can be hard to read at times because of sun glare and reflections, the version with the visors greatly reduce this effect. Machined of quality billet aluminium, then bead blasted and finally ano-dised silver to achieve a truly beautiful finish. Reservoir Caps

The protruding hydraulic reservoirs are a functional part, but not necessarily a very nice one to look at, especially those that are mounted on the handlebars. In addition, they are ex-posed to almost everything that comes their way. Our solution to this problem are nice looking caps that are simply pushed over the existing reservoirs. The black lids are covered and the whole assembly looks much better integrated with the rest of the bike. In addition the caps protect the reservoirs from flying objects and dirt. Attachment is easy, the are simply pushed over the top and secured with an internal velcro-type pad. Two colour versions available, silver or titanium.

Note: For off-road use the caps are not a substitute for our “Brake and Clutch Reservoir Protectors” (see further on in this section), as they won’t prevent the reservoirs from being ripped off in a fall. For best protection combine both parts.

Locking Oil Filler Plug

The original plastic plug is replaced by a good looking Wunderlich designed aluminium plug that hides a clever technical solution on the inside. The visible top part can be rotated fairly easily by 360° without moving the actual filler plug threads, therefore ensuring that the plug cannot be re-moved without the special key. The plug can only be removed when the key is inserted and all parts connected. The internal part is a one-piece unit, which ensures that oil cannot leak through the inside parts of the plug and prevents small metal parts from falling into the engine in case of a failure. The oil filler plug is supplied with a key (to be attached to key ring), a new “O”-ring as well as a Boxer emblem. The Boxer emblem can be replaced by an original BMW emblem (Order directly from your dealer part # 71609056263). Available in silver or blue anodised, and silver anodised “Carbon-Design”.

Swingarm Pivot Covers

The big cavities of the swing arm pivot should be kept pro-tected. The original plastic cover does not last very long, es-pecially during off road riding. This causes the holes to get covered in dirt and the pivot starts to show signs of corro-sion after a while. Our covers not only protect, they also look good and the design looks well integrated with the rest of the bike. The fixing method used for this one is innovative and elegant: A special set screw pushes an “O” – ring against the inner wall of the hole and makes sure the cover cannot move. As the tolerances in this area of the frame are quite big, this is the only method that ensures a save and central fixing. Fitting the covers is very easy, and only a small Allen key is required to tighten the set screw. Two versions are available, “Edge” or “Classic”

Boxer Watch II

We have created this dynamic watch in the style of the current Boxer instruments. The outstanding features of our watches include technical exclusivity, meticulous detail and extraordi-nary mechanization. The decentralized second hand is driven by its own movement that together with the minute/hour hands, forms a symbiotic “time instrument”. We have been in-spired by the typographies of the “GS” instruments and have adopted the typical style elements of the gauges. The snappy, ergonomic execution provides the wearer exceptional comfort, even beneath snug fitting leathers. The Wunderlich Boxer Watch II sets a new standard of aesthetics and reflects our passion for design, perfection and technical advancement.

The facts:• Each watch is individually numbered and is supplied with a certificate of

authenticity.• Double movement. One movement for hours/minutes and another for sec-

onds.• Solid stainless steel body with a satin finish.• Stainless steel back with engraved serial number.• Premium, optically clear and polished watch crystal.• Embossed emblem for enhanced brand recognition.• Waterproof up to 50 meters (160 feet)• Matching stainless steel wristband.• Ergonomic, folding buckle.• Wristband can be individually adjusted with the included special tool.• Plated aluminium storage box for the watch and tool included.

The consecutive numbering makes each watch a unique and unmistakable commemoration of the successful, over 16 year long history of the latest Boxer series. We protect this valu-able memento in an elegant metal can, incorporated with a transparent lid. You’ll receive this watch registered and certi-fied. An exact description as well as a certificate containing details and the serial number is included with the watch.

Gearbox Plug Cover

This is a nice little cover to hide the often corroded, rusty and plain looking gearbox plugs and reduce the accumulation of dirt in them. They are simply pushed into position, and held in position with an “O” ring. Machined from billet aluminium and anodised silver.

Extends by 25 mm

Extendable Shock Adjuster “Pully”

Adjusting the pre-load of the rear shock using the original adjuster can be quite difficult. With our extendable adjuster it becomes an easy and simple task! The adjuster extends outwards by 25 mm (~ 1”), it can then be gripped and turned properly using the whole hand with much less effort than before. In addition to its functionality the adjuster is also a nice looking part for your bike and has a “Boxer” emblem in the centre. The internal ball and spring mechanism ensures the adjuster is easy to pull/push into position. The main body is precision machined of aluminium and anodised in several colours so you can find the best option for your bikes’ paint.

Hub Cover Tornado

This part covers up the large hole of the final drive of the new generation bikes. Both ends of the hub are covered and make the whole assembly look much nicer and cleaner. The covers have a precision machined turbine-like pattern that gives it a flowing, dynamic appearance. The covers use a clever ex-panding “O”-ring clamping method, and to ensure no bolts or threads spoil the appearance on the outside, we have added a special tool that hooks into the holes for easy and safe fitting.

Temperamental DesignBecause the temperatures inside the final drive tunnel influence tolerances, the design criteria for this part was particularly complex and the resulting development, time consuming. Too high a temperature can lead to tighter than optimal clearances, while cooling can lead to a loose condition, both resulting in damage to the wheel carrier.

The scenery is breathtaking in both summer and winter!

Fun on two wheels on snow and ice

The machines of the Fjord Rally participants, ready for departure.

Fjordrally 2007The toughest winter rally in the worldFebruary is normally the time of year when motorcycles are safely tucked away in the garage, a trickle charger keeping the battery alive and the owner is busy fiddling with travel plans for the coming riding season in the warm comfort of the living room. For me however, it’s completely different: I stuff a few sets of thick undergarments in my saddlebags, attach a fog-free pin lock visor to my helmet, route wires for my heated clothing, strap a set of spiked tires on the lug-gage rack and head for Norway on my R 1200 GS.

The road conditions in Oslo were just like at home – clear of snow, it’s just that the thermometer needle kept dropping. About 100 kilometres (~60 mi) past Oslo however, the tires had reached their limit; there’s no longer enough traction on the bare ice, so I made it to the nearest parking lot to replace the knobby tires with the spikes. The ride on these tires however was very unsettling. The first kilometres were like walking on eggshells and my backside was signalling red alert: You are riding on solid ice!

It took a while before I got used to this peculiar riding sensation. Once I had reached that point however, the fun began. Pretty soon my average speed was up to almost 80 KM/H (50 mph), the spikes audibly clawed their way into the ice and offered a solid grip. It was even possible to lightly lean into the turns and drift out of them and all in total safety, because the walls of snow on both sides of the road would provide a soft cushion in case I overdid it.

Riding along at -17°C (~1°F) under clear, steel blue skies, I’m in landscape that could not be more beautiful – like a dream. Thick icicles dangle from the stone faces next to the road; everything is concealed by a thick layer of snow and ice, mysteriously glistening in the low lying sun. As if in a state of trance, travelling through this one-of-a-kind nature, I would not have been surprised to suddenly witness a troll or a fairy emerge from the haze of the forest. Soon thereafter, the magic ended abruptly: Visibility diminishes as strong winds blow the freshly fallen snow through a mountain pass. The long road markers driven into the ground at the edges of the road became my only means of orientation.

A bit later I happily reached the starting point of the Fjord Rally and was eagerly greeted by the other brave participants. All nine of them, eight men and one woman, had all arrived without major incident and so accordingly, spirits were high. Many stories were told and everyone’s individual concept of equipment was discussed. Each rider had their own version of spiked tires and a personal recipe for staying warm but all of us had the same goal in mind: fun on two wheels in snow and ice!

And fun we did have! Like little kids, we played with our motorcycles on icy roads, steep hills, up and down, long curves and tight twisties. High speed runs and blankets of snow alternated with the cautious approach to unfamiliar situations. Some bikes became stuck in snow almost to their axles and could only be freed with a combined effort.

The exciting and varied days in Nor-way passed by much too quickly. Hop-ing that most of the ride home would continue on snow and ice, reality set in as temperatures rose and riding with spikes on asphalt is not very enjoyable. So we were happy to reinstall normal tires shortly before Oslo. This meant the end of sliding the rear wheel in every corner. Besides, the customs officials would probably have frowned on the spiky tires when we boarded the ferry back to Germany.

Conclusion: With a bit of preparation, riding in winter can be a rejuvenating experience. The most important factors are suitable apparel, proper tires and sufficient riding experience. A bit of courage doesn’t hurt either – then let it roll!

Jararaca Conversion

There’s a reason this conversion for the 1200 GS bears the name of one of the deadliest snakes of South America! The extremely agile reptile features a unique, dynamic design with the shortened “beak”, wide tapered handle bars and a short windshield. The stylish tank covers with the optional integrated lights give this conversion added “street” credibil-ity. The conversion leaves enough scope for further individu-alisation of the bike. First introduced at the 2004 Intermot exhibition, this concept has surpassed our wildest dreams! The complete kit includes all major “Jararaca” components:

Complete Kit

Consists of:• Windshield “Flowjet”• Beakless Conversion• Tank side covers “light panel”

For details of each component see further on in this section.

All parts are made of thermoformed ABS plastic, available with either a silver paint-like upper surface or coated with our “Carbon-Look”. The silver fits very well with the silver colour of the bike and can be fitted without painting, the “Carbon-Look” fits in very well with other carbon fibre parts for the GS. Both can be painted, but special paint has to be used. Ask your local paint shop for details. Complete with all parts needed for fitting.

Conclusion:...the tester is amazed at the transforma-tion. Well, the metamorphose is a complete success.

Power TipThe conversion can be power enhanced with a few upgrades: A combination of a sport exhaust system, PerformanceController and BLUE Filter adds more power (about 10 HP) and torque, but also better throttle response and increased riding fun. For details see further on in section.

Cycle Torque 4/2007“Dubbed the Jararaca - after one of South America’s dead-liest snakes - the Wunderlich GS is much more pleasing to the eye than the standard BMW unit. There’s a short-ened front fairing beak, smaller windshield and redesigned tank cover which changes the look substantial-ly. This combined with the eye catching paint scheme and the integrated spotlights really set the bike off.”

Made of high quality tough plastic. Available in matt black or silver plastic (matches the colour of the frame), or coated with a special “Carbon-Look” layer. The silver plas-tic is coated with a high gloss layer that gives it panels a paint like quality. All can be painted, but special paint has to be used.

Short Beak Conversion

A radical replacement for the original “duck” beak, that gives the GS a completely new appearance. The design incorporates lines and features of the 1200 GS to create a unique and aggressive appearance that underlines the attributes of the 1200 GS. Can be used as part of a Jararaca conversion or just on its own. Tip: Our Oil Cooler Grill (order separately, part number 8501152) can be fitted together with the beak, which ads to the “dangerous” appearance of the bike. The material is the same tried and tested high quality thermoformed ABS plastic. Available with either a silver paint-like upper surface or coated with our “Carbon-Look”. The silver fits very well with the silver colour of the bike and can be fitted without painting, the “Carbon-Look” fits in very well with other car-bon fibre parts for the GS. Tank Covers “Light Panel”

New, designed side covers with integrated Hella lights (a Xenon high beam or fog light) that add an impressive ap-pearance. The conversion does not only give the GS a bullish appearance but also provides it with an excellent light power to rival any other Enduro. The rider’s legs and knees are pro-tected, and the gap to the cylinder closed, which reduces tur-bulence. The panels were designed specifically to fit with the existing style of the GS. The two panels come complete with our own anti theft quick release screw set and an improved inner fixing point. There is a choice of either one fog with one Xenon light, or two fog lights that can be fitted (not included, order separately). For those opting not to fit the optional lights the covers are supplied with nice looking meshed cov-ers, which can easily be removed at a later stage if lamps are used. Auxiliary Tanks “Jararaca18”

The “Jararaca18” auxiliary tanks transform the R 1200 GS into a flexible alternative to the Adventure and turn it into true long range bike. Up to 700 Km (435 miles) rides are now pos-sible between tank stops. A whole riding day can pass without annoying tank stops and worrying glances on the fuel gauge. Eastern Russia, middle eastern deserts or America’s vast dis-tances are not daunting anymore, but even a relaxed ride through the Alps mountains is much nicer when you are not hindered by unusual filling station opening hours. After initial tests with similar tanks the design brief included the follow-ing details: Easy and fast fitting/removal, attractive design and paintable surface coupled with the ability to withstand extreme conditions.

The result was successful in all points:• 20 Litres additional fuel volume.• Up to 700 km (435 miles) range.• Optimal weight distribution.• Easy removal: If needed, the GS is quickly turned back to original “slim”

condition.• Shatter-proof and impregnable carbon fibre reinforced plastic material.• Compression moulding manufacturing process ensures material is of high +

uniform density.• To avoid the need of additional crash bars, several endangered areas are

reinforced with hard parts. These will be visible and replaceable design elements for the production tanks.

• Unique “Jararaca” design.• Both tank sides are coupled with a large diameter connecting line, this

allows filling of both sides from a single, lockable filler cap.• Built in recess for the optional MicroFlooter lights.• Central fuel coupling for easy removal and access point to petrol (to refill

camping cooker etc.).

Before we officially presented the tanks they had to pass ex-treme testing. They were integral to the success of the 11000 km long extreme “Trip to Trulala”. The tanks are as a complete set of left and right side including all the parts needed for at-tachment to the bike (lamps not included, order separately). TÜV approved.

Micro Flooter SetThis set consists of a complete left and right side lamp set and brackets specifically made for the Wunderlich “Jarar-aca18” tanks. Properly mounted and adjusted (to avoid blind-ing oncoming traffic…) they will greatly enhance night vision in every weather condition compared to the sometimes poor original lights. They are best worked in conjunction with the “low” beam (not legal in every country, please check!!). The Micro-Flooter has a compact square shaped black metal body. Our tests showed that its high tech projector technique pro-duces a powerful light despite its smaller size. It produces a soft-light transition at the edge of the light beam, and illu-minates the road sides almost like a cornering light (helps to avoid wildlife jumping out of bushes at night). “E” approved when used as fog lamps.

Side Covers 1200 GS

The GS features a big and unsightly gap in the middle that literally screams for a set of covers. Our design team managed to create a magnificent looking part that fits perfectly into the overall design of the 1200 GS. The gap between the front covers and the rear was closed and the appearance of the bike from the side is more of a unit. The design lines are a continu-ation of the tank cover lines, and with the covers fitted the GS just looks complete.

Features:• Exact fitting shape.• Rear pre-load can be adjusted without removal of covers. • Recess for accessory plug.• Protects the frame when riding standing up (off road).• Less water reaches rider and passenger from rear wheel.• Secure ¼ turn anti-theft attachment, includes special screws and key

(same key as used for our secure fitting of the tank covers).• Light weight.

The covers are made of high quality tough plastic. Available in matt black or silver plastic (matches the colour of the frame), or coated with a special “Carbon-Look” layer. Cockpit Cover “Integra”

The GS is a thrilling, light vehicle, but slightly lacking in the styling department here and there. Our development team designed a perfectly fitting instrument cover that gives the cockpit a completely new appearance. The whole front area looks much tidier. All the design lines harmonise and the in-struments don’t protrude as much as before. It also complete-ly covers up the oval tube and the screen mounting points, which was unattractive to many owners. The cover has the added advantage that additional switches or sockets etc. can now be mounted for easy access by the rider. Made of a light-but-tough thermoformed plastic. The silver coloured version is coated with a high gloss layer that gives the panels a paint like quality, the colour matches nicely with the frame and other silver parts of the bike. Cylinder Head Protector “CarbonProtec”

This is the first all round protector for the cylinder head cover for the 1200 GS. Not only do they look good, they also add much needed protection for the cover. We found that the original cover can get easily damaged when the bike slides, it tends to slide and grind the whole surface of it. Even light slides at relatively low speeds can cause a trip-ending oil leak from the cover. Each side features a hard wearing metal slide pad that will give the first contact point when cornering hard, and extend even further the durability of the protector in case of an accidental slide. As with the Boxer-Cup racers, the CarbonProtec is easily attached to the head cover with two special bolts on each side (supplied with set), so that the cover does not need to be removed for fitting. Superb finish with a clear protecting layer. Complete set of left and right hand side incl. Bolts.

Carbon Fibre Engine Guard “LITE”

This engine guard is very strong despite its extremely light weight (only 280 gram / ~0.6 lb). Unlike the original, which is shovel shaped and digs into whatever it hits, this plate curves upward toward the leading edge and allows the plate to glide off of whatever it hits and protects the balance pipe. When grounding, the underside of the motor is protected in the best possible manner. Our own intensive off-road testing with this part showed nothing more than scratches on the underside as the resistance when grounding is relatively low. The carbon fi-bre material combined with the purposefully designed shapes produces a flexible but tough guard.

Rear Carrier Pad

The rear carrier of the GS is very useful when it comes to se-curing a top case or luggage. But if not in use, it looks bulky and not really nice. But there is a solution, this stick-on pad in 3D “carbon-look” makes it look much “lighter” and pre-sentable. Additionally it protects the carrier from scratches. The pad is made of a special plastic material with a 3D car-bon-look surface and a high quality clear outer coating. The underside is coated with a very thin but strong 3M adhesive to attach the pad to the carrier.

Steering Stop

It is possible for original steering stop of the R 1200 GS to shear off in for example a situation where the bike falls over. If this happens, the handlebar can smash into the tank covering, causing damage to the painted surface as well as the handlebar switch. This can lead to expensive repairs and a great deal of aggravation. Our new steering stop design provides a strong, additional point of contact and takes the strain off the original steering stop. Herès how it works: The bumpers bolt onto the lower fork bridge pinch bolts and con-tact the Telelever just before the stock steering stop would make contact. This softens the blow, and, as the rubber bump-er compresses, it progressively becomes a solid stop for the forks. With this part installed, the steering stop will fare bet-ter than your pride in the event of a spill. The steering stops are machined from solid high quality, anodised aluminium al-loy. Sold as a set of left and right hand side complete with all fittings. 2 versions available, silver or blue anodised.

Crash TestedAt Wunderlich, we test and ride our BMWs the way it was intended: Hard and fast and with a smile on our faces. Unfortunately, sometimes the unthinkable happens and this smile gets wiped off... This type of Wunderlich steer-ing stop design has already saved us many times, fitted on a number of our Enduro, road, race and test bikes. In several cases of harmless spills, small “incidents” and recently even a 120 km/h (75 mph) road crash there was no damage to telelever, forks and steering stop thanks to this essential protecting part. Therefore this part is one of the first we develop and fit on our own bikes.

Sidestand Enlarger

An expensive bike such as the GS needs additional “insurance” against damage when parked on soft ground. Especially when fully loaded with luggage, soft ground or hot Tarmac can eas-ily cause the bike to topple over. This precision machined plate is fitted in no time to the side stand and prevents un-necessary damage.

The facts:• Safe footing on all types of ground• Less leaning angle of bike• Machined “teeth” on edge for easier deployment of side stand• Surface area increased by more than 100%• Corrosion resistant anodised surface• Protects original stand from rust• Exact shape for stand plate, includes vibration damping pad.

Tip: Before fitting the enlarger, paint the underside of your original side stand with black paint to prevent further rusting of the blank and scuffed metal.

Tank Protector “Adventure Style”

A perfect upgrade for the 1200 GS in the Adventure style. These bars protect the tank and the front area, in our opin-ion even better than the original one of the Adventure. It is relatively easy to fit, and the GS gets the Adventure appear-ance without losing any of its advantages. Made of top quality powder-coated steel tubes. The optional Micro Flooter can be ordered separately (see below).

Note: The protector was developed for our own engine protection bars (see above), but will fit the original BMW one as well. We cannot however guarantee fitting issues that stem from the manufacturing tolerances of the original part.

Valve Cover Protector

The original protection bars of the GS and Adventure do not prevent the cylinder head valve cover from grinding on the road. All our crash experience shows that the original bars prevent damage from simple falls (sidestand) or from hits di-rectly from the front, but slides always cause the cover to be damaged. We developed this add-on part as a supplement for the original bars to offer similar protection as our own bars. The load is spread over a larger area and the cover is protected. The cross bar additionally protects the spark plugs and HT coils located under the cylinders.

• Protects valve cover• Protects spark plug and HT coil• Strong construction• Cornering clearance not affected• No modification of bike needed• Fits to existing mounting points• Easy to install• Sold as set of left and ride side bars complete with fitting kit.

Cylinder Head Protector

Life insurance for the exposed and damage-prone cylinder head covers! The need to protect the covers has been un-derlined by the available aftermarket rubber emergency kits. We prefer to avoid damage in the first place, therefore we developed the best possible protection for the cover and the sensitive bolt threads in the cylinder.

The facts:• Protection from impacts, falls and slides• No more grinding of holes in cover.• Protects the cylinder head cover from moving and destroying the bolt

threads in the cylinder (cover attachment to head is “floating”, without protection it could move at impact).

• Protection for the front attachment bolt.• Load is spread over many points via flexible 3M rubber bumpers.• No bolts etc at the front impact area.• More than 4 mm (5/32“) thick replaceable slide pad on each side.• 3 major double strength attachment points.• Hard anodised aircraft-spec aluminium alloy.• Spark plugs can be reached without dismantling.• Easy to fit.

The original plastic protectors usually shatter at minor inci-dents or simply fold back, we recommend fitting these protec-tors as a preventive measure. During the development and testing of this part (road/off-road/track using several bike models with the customary slides and falls) we never had to use the emergency rubber cap. Sold as a complete set for the left and right side.

Engine Protection Plates

When the 1200 GS was introduced it was obvious that it need-ed a stronger plate that would not only protect the engine, but also the exhaust downpipes and collector. Background: When the original protector plate is subjected to a strong impact from below (jumping) or is hooked by some-thing from underneath it can shear off its front bracket, and the rigid rear brackets bend into the engine cases. Our engine protection plates have pressed strengthening swages that greatly increase stiffness and stability. In addi-tion to the regular “Dakar” plate, we developed the “Extreme” for extreme off-road use. The “Extreme” version increases ground clearance by an additional 25 mm (1”). It has a spe-cial frame bolted directly to the engine cases, with vibration/shock reducing rubber mounts connecting the actual protec-tor plate to the frame.

The features:• Steep angle in front to prevent getting “hooked”.• Protects the collector at the rear.• No reduction in ground clearance compared to original.• “Extreme” version additional 25 mm ground clearance.• 4 mm (~5/32”) thick + strong aluminium plate.• Strengthening swages + shape make this plate almost indestructible.• 6 attachment points (compared to 4 originals).• No modifications needed, easy attachment.• Bolted to existing mounting points/threads.• Sold complete with complete fitting kit + bolts.

We tested the plate on the roughest stages of the Agadir Rally, where it really showed its worth. Not only does the plate offer strong protection to the underside of the bike, it also fits in with the off road look of the GS.

Rally Agadir Quote by Dirk Thelen, 4 times German

champion and our R 1200 GS-WR rider:

“…without the engine protection you wouldn’t have recognised the engine case and exhaust tubes afterwards. It was constantly hit.”

Motor KaputtOn our first photo shoot Dirk Thelen refused (with reason-ing) to jump with the 1200 GS as the small engine protec-tion plate could get caught. This decision was vindicated on our first euphoric test ride with the new HP (fitted with the original plate and without rubber silent blocks). Naturally, the touch down of the first ever jump proved the point, the plate got bashed and two cast spacers were pushed into the engine case.

Centre Stand Protection Plate

The logical addition to the “Dakar” or “Extreme” engine pro-tection plate. It protects the centre stand, exhaust pipes (catalytic converter) and swing arm base. Lamp Grill

A short off road ride and a flicked-up stone can mean the premature end for the expensive head lamp glass. When rid-ing with a group, a lot of stones are thrown up by the knobby off road tyres of the bike in front. These are potential lamp killers. • Protects head lamp.• No reflection or glare.• Strong mesh, easy to clean.• Fold away version (up to 2007) allows easy access to lamp• Easy to fit.• Strong, coated construction.

In cases of very hard impacts the grill leans against the lamp with a soft silent block.

R 1200 GS + Adventure (up to 2007)Conventional lamp grills or the original lamp protector cannot be used legally on the road (in many countries), and the lamp glass behind them is hard to clean. Wunderlich QualityCheaply produced protectors with large openings are main-ly for “looks”. Our small size mesh effectively protects the cooler fins from small stones and bugs.

Fits with all beak conversions

Cleaning tip (“Grilled Lepidoptreas a la Wunderlich”)

As the pictures shows, all sorts of wildlife tried to reach the cooler but were stopped effectively by the cooler protector. Cleaning this mess is fairly easy when our protectors are fitted, ingredients needed are: A paper towel, hot water, one tea bag and a cup: Press a wet paper towel gently against the grill. Then use the hot water + tea bag and make yourself a nice cup of tea. After about 20-30 minutes all the insects will have softened up by the wet towel and will easily come off the grill. Whatever is left can be quickly brushed off. Et voilà!

Oil Cooler Grills

The oil cooler is well positioned for the onrushing air stream, the result being that anything carried by this stream finds its way into the cooler. Stones, insects and grime fill up the delicate fins of the cooler and cannot be removed without extensive labour, and usually the cooler fins bend and never look the same after. Finely meshed stainless steel grills as used by us protect the cooler, ensure that the cooling proper-ties remain effective and are easy to clean, after cleaning the mesh will always look as good as before. Covering the black radiators with our grills will positively transform the appear-ance of your bike!

• Best protection and best appearance.• Blocks potential damage from reaching cooler.• Strong stainless steel mesh bonded to metal frame or thermoformed ABS

Header Pipe Protection

The exposed exhaust pipes are in the direct firing line of any-thing that the front wheel and other vehicles in front of the bike throw up. To prevent this we created a clever protector that exactly matches the curve of the tube, made of extremely resistant aluminium alloy. It can be fitted to the original or our after market Sport exhaust header system. If the exhaust system has a balance pipe, order the extra Balance Pipe Pro-tector separately. The protectors are attached to the bike using jubilee clips, this means that they are very easily installed or removed. So if you are planning a long trip that will involve some rough or unpaved roads fit the protectors, and remove them for normal use.

Brake + Clutch Reservoir Protectors (front)

Both front hydraulic reservoirs are mounted in a fairly exposed position, and even a minor fall can cause expensive damage and maybe the premature end of a holiday trip…After three of our own damaged reservoirs, we designed these complexly structured protectors which are mounted and sup-ported through several strong mounting points. In order to be able to absorb impacts a relatively thick aluminium was chosen. Lightening slots were machined in to ensure the end product is strong, light and also looks good. Can be used with or without fitted original hand protectors. Sold complete with fitting kit.

Brake Reservoir Protector (rear)

The rear brake reservoir is only held in place by a metal clip. It is easy to accidently knock it out of the clip by a boot or from a fall. The protector prevents this, and in addition makes unwanted removal of the lid much more difficult. Made of anodised aluminium, and easily attached to the bike.

Brake Line Protector (front)

The front brake line is bolted directly to the front of the lower fork clamp. This causes the line and connection to be very exposed to damage from stones thrown up from vehicles in front (happened to us in 2 separate cases). Our brake line protector “defends” the brake line and connections and will divert anything away from the brake components. In addition to its functionality the protector has a positive visual impact and provides a nice looking transition between the brace and the telelever. Made of 2 mm (~5/64”) thick silver anodised aluminium. Sold complete with everything needed for an easy installation.

Brake Light Switch Protector

The original front brake light switch is held in position by a very small screw and a bit of glue. If it fails, applying the front brake won’t trigger the rear brake light. Our protector prevents this from happening. We surround the switch with a light aluminium part and give it a secure attachment point. The protector consists of a silver anodised aluminium bracket and fitting kit. Easy to fit, simply fit under the right side control unit.

Note: Models from 2008 onwards do not need to fit this part. BMW must have recognised this weak spot and replaced the mechanical switch with an hydraulic pressure switch.

Up to a certain software update the Integral ABS worked only with a correct functioning brake light. If the brake light failed, so did the servo function. If this is the case with your bike, we recommend an urgent visit to your dealer to update the software.

Throttle Sensor Protector

The throttle sensor of the 1200 GS protrudes quite a bit out to the side. It can easily get damaged if hit (for instance with heavy boots) and especially when off road riding. Our protec-tor is made of laser cut aluminium sheet shields the sensor from possible damage, the additional lower support passes some of the energy to the throttle body. It has proven itself on our extreme off road activities. Comes complete with fit-ting kit. Anodised silver.

Brake Switch Cover

This cover for the rear brake light switch replaces the original plastic one and is bolted securely in place, preventing the problems that can be caused by the plastic piece. It is as much an improvement to appearance as it is to safety. The original plastic cover merely snaps into place above the rear brake lever. Our experience shows that it can easily snap out of place if inadvertently kicked or knocked by a branch or something similar, especially when off-road riding. This could result in the cover getting jammed between the brake lever and the frame, preventing the lever from springing back to the off position. This in turn means the brake could remain acti-vated while riding and without the riders knowledge, causing the rear brake to overheat and possibly fail. Machined from a solid piece of aluminium alloy, anodised silver. Complete with fitting kit and Boxer emblem.

To add insult to injury, replacing the oxygen sensor is not cheap, and a repair is usually impossible. the Wunderlich developed sensor guard provides effective protection and ensures the oxygen sensor stays operational.

• Effective protection from damage caused by stones and branches.• Reduces dirt accumulation on sensor.• Easy and simple attachment.• Fits with or without engine protection bars.

Horn Guard

A small part but one with a big impact. Anyone who has used a tank bag knows the problem. It prevents the unwanted horn sounding when turning the handlebars to the left, no matter what tank bag is used. The bracket is easily installed, normal use and function of horn is, of course, not affected.

• Prevents accidental sounding of horn.• Bonus: Reduces staring by surprised bystanders.• Solid construction.• Easy to attach.

Mudguard Enlarger “Beak-Extenda”

In wet conditions the front wheel throws up water and mist and the wind carries the water straight to the rider, who has to constantly clean up the visor. We have designed this part to increase passive safety as well as protection for off road use (significantly reducing the amount of dirt on the bike and rider). The lines of the original beak are extended and the fitted part gives the GS a massive presence similar to the old and loved Adventure. Now the 1200er becomes what it’s supposed to be: The biggest Enduro with a confident, assured appearance. Fitting the Beak-Extenda is as easy as anything: Simply push the enlarger onto the original beak and secure using the two original side screws. On the underside there is a plastic strap that secures the part to the original beak and makes sure the Beak-Extenda will always stay in position. The Extendas are made of light, high quality tough ABS plastic. Available in matt “satin black” or silver (matches the colour of the frame), or coated with a special “Carbon-Look” layer. The silver plastic is coated with a high gloss layer that gives it panels a paint like quality. All versions can be painted, but special paint has to be used. Ask your local paint shop for de-tails. All versions can be fitted without further modifications to the bike. Finally: To make this part even more appealing we have machined a small recess on each enlarger and fitted a “Boxer” emblem*. *An original BMW emblem can be fitted instead. Order directly from your BMW dealer part number 51142308800.

Injection Cover

The inlet assembly including duct, injector, connections and throttle sensor are always in danger of being torn off. Also, there have been several cases of someone finding it funny to remove the small black vacuum plugs on our long term testing bikes. Rain and moisture have entered the electrical connec-tions, probably caused because of repeated contact with the boots or pants etc. Other than the protection provided by the covers they also provide much needed visual improvement. The whole mess of cables, connectors and components disap-pears behind the cover, and gives a nice transition from the cylinder head. Made of light, high quality tough ABS plastic. Available in matt “satin black” or silver (matches the colour of the frame). The silver plastic is coated with a high gloss layer that gives it panels a paint like quality. Back Extenda Fender

Dirt, rain and muck are thrown up onto luggage, the back of the passenger and even the rider. This adjustable enlarger closes the gap between the number plate and the rear wheel. With this part fitted, the splash guard can be removed for off road riding. Depending on number plate size, the extension can be moved up or down for the best position. The new design of the extension reaches further back than before and thus manages to catch even more of the wet stuff that is thrown up by the wheel. Comes complete with a machined re-cess for a Boxer emblem (Can be replaced by an original BMW emblem part number 51142308800 – not included, ask your dealer). Made of tough black ABS plastic. Easy to fit.

Front Extenda Fender

The rear section of the front mudguard is not long enough to effectively keep road debris off the exhaust and front of the engine. The strong and stiff extension channels the water and dirt downwards, and the features of the mudguard and bike are incorporated in the design as well. Made of tough ABS plastic, the extender attaches to the original fender with stainless steel screws which are included.

Inner Fender

BMW wanted to emphasise the lightness of the GS with the airy sub frame. Unfortunately this leaves the riders’, and espe-cially the passengers’ legs exposed to dirt and wetness. Water is splashed unhindered over the boots and thighs. The result is a soaking wet and soiled rider and passenger. But not just the users of the bike are affected, the water penetrates deep into any part of the rear sub frame and especially the rear shock absorber unit, battery and final drive. Any unprotected technical or metal part subjected to a constant torrent of dirty water will show effects. Oxidation and corrosion damage are predetermined, and cleaning the rear of the bike is a time consuming task. The easily attached “Inner Fender” puts an end to all sorts of half baked solutions and protects the complete rear of the bike in a very impressive manner. In addition to providing excellent protection the fender also visually closes the gap between air box and rear wheel. The fender is made of tough black ABS plastic, and is quickly attached to the bike. It is held securely to the bike with strong cable ties, which means that anyone with basic skills can fit this part in a matter of minutes. The pictures of our “with and without test” speak more than words, the difference is simply astonishing.

With

The evidence: Two standard 1200 GS ridden together on the same route on a rainy day. The internal components, silencer, luggage cases and even the seats were covered by a thick layer of dirt on the bike (right picture) without the “Inner fender” fitted (as would any standard GS). Exactly the opposite was the result on the bike fitted with the fender: Footrests, seats and cases show regular level of dirt, the clean rear shock absorber unit proves how effective the inside is protected. Even the passenger did not get soaked thighs and boots filled with water!

Frame Protector “Spider”

Constant chafing on the frame with your boots (especially motocross boots) will damage the paint, reduce the value of the bike and even reduce the wall thickness of the frame tube. Together with Dirk Thelen, we designed a light and strong plastic protector that follows the frame tube like a second skin and provides a solution for this problem.

• Boots cannot get caught on frame• Frame protected from Enduro boots• Protects swing arm pivot from dirt• Prevents loosing the pivot cap• Precise shape ensures no chafing of frame or rattling noises from protec-

tor.• Easy to fit• Only 80 g weight per protector

This part has proved itself during extensive race and road testing. 2 versions are available: A silver thermoformed ABS plastic in silver colour with a paint-like surface finish or the professional edition made of a black coloured, very abrasive-resistant fibre reinforced hybrid plastic material. A must for any serious GS Rider who wants to protect the frame.

Foot Protector

A lot of the water and dirt that is splashed backwards by the front wheel reaches the driver’s feet. The Wunderlich foot protector very effectively channels the water away from the feet. In case of a fall the plastic can bend and flex and, in most cases, will spring back into it’s old position, thereby protecting the mounting points from breakage. The design is well integrated with the style of the GS. The protectors are made of our trusted ABS plastic, and the brackets are made of anodised aluminium. The protectors are available in silver colour coated with a high gloss paint-like layer, satin matt black or coated with our “Carbon-Look” design. Fitting is easy, supplied as a complete set of left and right hand side protectors with all brackets and bolts included.

Notes: 1) The foot protectors can be fitted with Wunderlich or original BMW engine protection bars. 2) The protectors were designed to be used with original BMW or the Wunderlich Sport Exhaust Header (part no. 8600243, see further on for details). It may fit with other aftermarket headers, but exces-sive exhaust heat may damage the protectors.

These protectors combine two advantages: They keep water away from feet and shins in rainy conditions and also keep the heat of the engine and exhaust downpipes away in the summer. The shielding of the sometimes very unpleasant heat in hot weather definitely adds to the riding enjoyment, plus the big advantage of keeping your feet dry and warm. Made of strong, shatter-proof and scratch resistant 6.5 mm (~1/4”) and optically clean Acryl plastic. The clear protectors offer a massive effect without being too visible. 60 m Sliding ActionDuring a ~ 80 km/h (50 mph) crash our 1150 Adventure (equipped with a similar part and same material) slid about 60 meters (196 ft) on the road. Not only did the leg and foot protectors save the tank (no dents, just a sliding mark had to be repainted) but also the protectors were ok afterwards. All the scratches and scuffs were first sanded and then polished away.

Leg + Foot Protector “Clear Protect”

The area below the fairing of all GS models is a main source of turbulence. The “Clear Protect” neatly closes the gap be-tween the fairing and the cylinders. This reduces turbulence, the rider is protected from cold and wet weather and long distance riding is much more pleasant than before. When used together with our “ERGO” touring screens the result is surpris-ingly good, and offers the best protection tested by us. The GS and Adventure take on the wind protection properties of a “Super Tourer” but without the bulky appearance of such. The specially designed flowing shape protects the whole lower body of the rider all the way down to the feet from wind and weather on cold and rainy days. On hot days, the protectors deflect the heat coming from the cylinders away from the legs and feet of the rider. The set consists of two protectors on each side, starting from the top of the tank side covers and reaching all the way down below the cylinder. The protectors are made of 6.5 mm (~ 1/4”) thick shatter proof and scratch resistant Acryl plastic, and are available in clear “transparent” or with a “smoked” tint. Sold as a complete set of left and right side protectors including strong metal brackets, bolts and everything needed for an easy installation. Can be used together with engine protection bars. The hand guard extension very easily bolts on to the existing original hand guards. The benefit of this is that wind and water are channelled away from the rider’s hands and arms much better than before. The shape reduces turbulence which has the added benefit of pulling less cold air from underneath so the rider’s fingers don’t cool down as much. The extensions are made of ABS plastic and available in silver colour coated with a high gloss paint-like layer, satin matt black or coated with our “Carbon-Look” design. Tamper Proof Bolt Set

The quick release screws of the original tank covers cannot be considered either nice looking or very safe. They almost invite someone to try and take off with them and the cover. Not to mention that ignorant thieves would probably rip the inner mount as well. To prevent this from happening we have designed a replacement kit with fasteners that can only be opened with the special key (supplied with kit). The replace-ment bolts have a very flat triangular shaped recess. In case someone tries to open them with pliers we have added a spe-cial aluminium washer that rotates instead and makes it even harder to tamper with. The bolts are simply replaced, so it is a matter of minutes to fit the kit. The bolts are high quality and corrosion resistant. The washers are available in either silver or blue anodised aluminium. The set consists of a full set for both sides including the special key. Also available (order separately) is the quick release metal replacement set for the inner mounts (set includes one bolt for each side), the origi-nal ones are made of plastic and tend to fly off occasionally. Note: We have had many reports (in addition to our own experience) of this happening. Usually the cover itself and the aluminium side cover are damaged.

To make the journey comfortable as possible we improved the GS with the following parts: The obligatory ERGO Seat, W-Handle Bar Risers for comfort and easy standing during off road stints and the XtremeScreen for wind protection. To make sure the unavoidable crashes don’t cause an early flight back home we fitted the bike with the Engine Protection Bars, Adjustable Folding Gear Shift Lever, RIZOMA Brake Caliper Cover and the large Engine Protection Plate. To make sure the GS does not have starting, running and breathing problems we fitted a strong starting Odyssey battery, DENSO spark plugs and BLUE air filters. Additional Mi-cro Flooter lights made sure the

GS and the road was seen even in the foggiest conditions. Luggage and equipment was stored at the front in the Wunderlich Tank Bag and at the rear in the Seat Bag and a set of Gobi cases. The contact to the road was taken care of by the proven Continen-tal TKC80 tyre. The 1200 GS reputation as an excellent all-rounder is truly deserved. Fast “Autobahn” rides, dusty gravel tracks or river crossings, the GS was always 100% reliable and dependable. Not one technical defect whatso-ever on this trip. Additional lights are gathering more and more fans, the main reason is safety - “See and be seen”. Properly mounted and adjusted (to avoid blinding oncoming traffic…) they will greatly enhance night vision in every weather condition com-pared to the sometimes poor original lights. They are best worked in conjunction with the “low” beam (not legal in every country, please check!!). The Micro-Flooter has a com-pact square shaped black metal body. Our tests showed that its high tech projector technique produces a powerful light despite its smaller size. It produces a soft-light transition at the edge of the light beam, and illuminates the road sides almost like a cornering light (helps to avoid wildlife jump-ing out of bushes at night). Asia AdventureIt seemed that we were a perfect match, when the 4-time Guinness World record holder Gerry Mayr approached us: To ride a Motorcycle from Singapore to Germany. That was exactly our kind of tour and also a great opportunity for us to once again place the usefulness of our products under scrutiny.Gerry started on December 27 in Singapore riding a Wunderlich pre-pared R 1200 GS SilverX (this time in blue). Packing all of his gear, his girlfriend and his hang glider, the WILBERS Shock equipped GS carried in excess of 300 KG (660 Lbs.) On the way to Bangkok, the two seized the opportunity to scuba dive and swim on the Thai islands and the hang glider was also lofted in the warm Asian air. Once in Bangkok, the two parted ways: Gerry’s girlfriend returned home and Gerry packed up the bike and flew to Katmandu. There he explored the mountains on foot and before long, the Border guards in the area referred to him as the “Crazy German”.From Nepal, the trip continued through India, towards Pakistan. What a contrast: having just been in the incredible tranquility of the Hima-layas, Gerry now found himself confronted with the hectic, gridlocked traffic of India. Naturally, a visit to the Taj Mahal was a must. Gerry reached and crossed through Pakistan without incident and he was overwhelmed by the hospitable nature of the people there. Even Iran proved to be a good country to travel through although he sometimes found himself unpleasantly surrounded by large masses of people. This was however more a matter of curiosity than of ill will and even these experiences did not detract from the overall favorable impression that Persia left on him.In the North of Iran, winter caught up with Gerry. Ice storms, snow drifts and land slides in Turkey slowed the progress of his return to the home land. It was the hand and foot protection as well as the engine bars that made any progress at all, possible during this time. The original plan was to complete the journey in four weeks but because of the weather, there was still a long way to go and so Gerry enjoyed a few extra, relaxing days with some friends in the Balkans on the way home. After 46 days and 14,000 km, Gerry and our R 1200 GS SilverX returned safely. Gerry had earned a hot shower and a few days of rest and the BMW received an oil change, a new front wheel plus a thorough service and is now ready for the next adventure.

Micro Flooter “Zyklop”

In Greek mythology Zyklop (Cyclops) was a one-eyed giant. The giant GS + Adventure original lights are not bad, but there is definitely need for more light in certain conditions. Espe-cially when riding on unlit twisty country roads, the extra lighting power can make a huge difference. Because the fork mounted lamp turns together with the steering it illuminates parts of the road usually kept dark by the original lights. The one-eyed “Zyklop” is also the perfect option for those who prefer to keep the bikes’ appearance as close to standard, when turned off it is almost invisible. The Micro Flooter lamp used for the “Zyklop” has a compact square shaped body. Our tests showed that it‘s high tech. projector technique (55 watts) produces a powerful light despite the smaller than most size. It produces a soft-light transition at the edge of the light beam, and illuminates the road sides (helps to avoid wildlife jumping out of bushes at night). The lamp and its aluminium “cage” is attached to the Wunderlich “Brake Line Protector”*, a 2 mm (~5/64”) thick laser cut silver anodised aluminium bracket at the centre of the lower fork brace. Sold complete with lamp, bulb, wiring and everything needed for installation*. “E” approved.

*Note: 2 versions are available, depending on if the Wunderlich “Brake Line Protector” is already fitted to the bike or not (part nos. 8200049 or 8200056, see details a few pages back).

Double Rear Light “FlatTwin”

The rear end of the GS appears almost as if cut-off. Just be-fore the rear light the GS design comes to an unexpected halt. This was the reason we designed the rear cover when the 1200 GS was introduced. This part is a continuation of the GS design initiative which we have continued to develop since 2003. The rear end of the GS or Adventure gets an opti-cal enhancement as well as a technical improvement thanks to modern LED-technology. Compared to conventional bulbs modern LED technology used for this part does not suffer from switching delays. Combined with the increased light output (over 30 high power LED) and better visibility this increases safety (especially when braking). Also, there is no danger of light failure because of the double light and numerous LED in each unit. An additional bonus: The Integral ABS is coupled to the rear light unit, when a regular bulb failure occurs the on-board computer registers this as a fault. The “FlatTwin” rear light is sold as a complete “Plug + Play” unit for easy fitting. Consists of a thermoformed ABS plastic housing (which can be painted) with integrated rear/brake light combination, integrated LED number plate light, con-nectors and fitting kit. “E” approved. Available in either a silver paint-like surface matching the rear of bike, satin matt black or coated with our “Carbon-Look” design.

LED indicator set “Arrow”

A set of two robust LED indicators, which are almost unnotice-able when turned off. An optical upgrade for your bike, and also less prone to breaking off. Compared to conventional bulbs, modern LED technology used here does not suffer from switching delays, the light is brighter than the original and has better reliability (15 separate high power LED bulbs in each indicator). Sold as a complete rear or front set, each set includes 2 indicators, adapters + all the parts needed for fit-ting. Includes a “Flash Killer” to ensure the correct operation and blinking frequency of the can bus system. “E” approved.

Odyssey Pure Lead Battery

This battery is the solution for blinking ABS warning lights and non starting BMW bikes. The 1200 GS has a smaller bat-tery than the older models; therefore, this battery is even more important to have for total starting reliability. Amaz-ing starting power, extremely long life (can last 8-10 years if treated correctly) and vibration proof. Will hold the charge for months when not in use (needs to be fully charged be-forehand) and is totally maintenance free. The special pure lead “dry” technology made this battery spill-proof, weather proof and reliable. Size: 170 x 99 x 156 mm, 5.2 kg. Starting power 225 A, 15 Ah (original = 13 Ah). The battery is sold ready to go (no initial charging needed) complete with metal bracket etc.

Reliability TestedScorching heat and extreme vibration during the Agadir Rally, -20° on the way to Syria, Siberia or Asia, where there is no chance of spares: The Odyssey can be relied upon. We did not have one failure, even if the lights were left on for long periods (repair or setting up camp at night) the motor started without problems. The reason for this is the higher capacity and the extremely strong starting power of this battery.

Blue Service

Blue Longlife Performance Air Filters

“Blue” air filters for BMW were specially made for us by GREEN, a European manufacturer with motor sport experience and excellent production methods. The filters are made to a very high standard to ensure the best airflow and cleaning properties. They enjoy better air flow than many similar filter types, and the low pressure manufacturing process ensures that there is very little spillage of the black plastic into the woven cotton sheets (more spillage = less filtering area…). A few facts:• Deep pleats in the double-layered cotton create a 10-20% increase in fil-

tration surface. This increase allows a greater volume of air to move more freely into your engine cylinders.

• Blue uses 2 layers of woven cotton compared to most other brands who use 4 layers of cotton gauze. There are 3 main benefits to woven cotton: it’s thinner, holds oil better, and is stronger.

• Blue filter’s rubber mouldings are almost exact around the edges with no wasted surface area. Using this more efficient process the air flow is greater than the same size filter that is injection moulded.

• Blue Longlife Performance Filters are designed to be oiled. The oil creates a positive (+) magnetic charge with the mesh, which attracts the negatively (-) charged dust particles. The dust and dirt builds around the mesh to form a tunnel. This allows the cotton to remain cleaner for maximum flow.

• Normal servicing every 50,000 km or once a year. In very dusty conditions re-oiling or servicing may be needed.

• Pleat design: The filters have pleats that are parallel to the width. This makes the filter more rigid and stronger and reduces air leaks.

• Stainless steel mesh on both sides.• Custom Fitment Tabs (for square filters only). Plastic air-boxes can warp

out of shape or even distort from the heat radiated from the engine. These tabs also benefit the filter by centring and aligning it in the air box, so the filter is evenly sealed.

• Easy to fit, just replace the original with Blue Filter• 1 Million km warranty• Warning sticker for air box

Blue ServiceFor servicing a Blue Filter use only the approved Blue Filter cleaner and oil to ensure the filter is not damaged, and the filtering effect not impaired. The specially formulated cleaner bottle (500 ml) and oil can (300 ml) are available either as a “Service Pack” combination or as single components. Clean-ing and oiling the filter is easy to perform. double-layered cotton create a 10-20% increase in filtration surface and

improved air flow.

A smooth

surface and soft flexible rubber base

ensures an air tight seal.

Blue Filters are produced using

a time-consuming 4-step production process which virtu-

ally eliminates rubber seepage into the cotton. Other manufacturers use

a mass production fast pressure-moulded injection process, but this

process pushes rubber onto the filtering surface which can restrict the airflow by up

to 25%.

Power Intake Duct GS

A tailor-made “Power Intake”- duct for the 1200 GS. The in-creased and optimised cross section of the air intake allows the 4V Boxer engine to “breathe” in less turbulent air. This in turn will improve throttle response and overall perform-ance, and is the base of all engine tuning. Air Chargers work especially well (and are needed to unleash the HP potential of the bike) in conjunction with free flowing Blue air filters, fuel injection Power Controller, free flowing collectors and silencers, camshafts or any other tuning measure. The intake duct is made of a light hybrid plastic material and is easily exchanged for the original one.

“PerformanceController”

Powered by Dobeck Performance (Techlusion)

Modern motorcycles with computerised fuel injection are lim-ited in their ability to adjust for changing conditions. This clever electronic device allows the rider to adjust the amount of fuel delivered at any riding situation in order to optimise the response and performance wherever the potential for im-provement exists. Inherent lean mixtures, sluggish response and slow transition from cruise to rapid acceleration and the dreaded surging can all be dialled out. When fitting perform-ance parts such as free flowing air filters, larger air ducts, sport collectors, open exhausts, camshafts and any other tun-ing measure require the addition of fuel for peak performance. Changing fuel octane rates, fuel qualities and high altitudes all require different fuel amounts. With old bikes you would change the main jets, raise the needle etc. to achieve this. With the PerformanceController you adjust for the best per-formance for all those eventualities by pressing buttons. As the PerformanceController only adds fuel, there is no danger of damage to the engine. Features 6 adjustment ranges, with three large adjustment buttons (can be adjusted with gloves on) and a waterproof casing. The PerformanceController is easily plugged into the existing wiring loom using simple connectors (no cutting or modifying loom) and manages to get more out of the 4V Boxer even with base settings dialled in. The extremely compact case (84 x 50 x 10 mm) is easily stowed away on the bike. Includes a 30 day return option, enough time to be convinced of the qualities of this system!

Up to 2007* Part No.: 8530120*From 2008* Part No.: 8530122** Only for motor sport use!

How does it work?

Modern engines have to be able to pass stringent emissions test for different countries, therefore the factory settings represent a compromise. The PerformanceController optimises the set-tings using the good base of the original injection mapping and adding fuel for a number of riding situations. The 8 coloured LED’s at the front show your current mode (tick-over, accelera-tion, cruise etc.) and with the help of the three buttons at the front the fuel mixture, can be easily adjusted. Basically, the PerformanceController allows the rider to use the classic adjust-ments of a carburettor for the modern fuel injected bike, but with the comfort of pushing electronic buttons. And the best thing is - the PerformanceController does not require any permanent modifications to the bike or bike electronics. It can be removed in a matter of minutes and the bike is back to standard.

A demo showing how simple the adjustment of the PerformanceController is can be found on our website (www.wunderlich.de) under the 8530120 part number.

Tip: As you fit more and more performance parts the PerformanceController will allow you to take advantage of the power potential of those parts. Our own test with many tuned BMWs (cams + sprockets, exhaust, filter etc.) showed an increase of power and torque over the complete range.

Increase of power and torque over almost the complete rev range. A 1200 GS with a sports exhaust system such as Zard or WRA can increase the output by up to 14 HP and 10 NM.

A report and more pictures about the amazing Jean Pierre Goy at the end of

the catalogue

“Motorrad” 15/2006“Also very positively standing out was the usage of the so called PerformanceController. An easy to install device that allows varying the amount (of fuel) injected. The Boxer (engine) of the test bike had very good smooth running properties, a zippy throt-tle response and seemed to be much more agile over the whole rev range than a motor fed by standard soft-ware.”

Sintered Clutch

This clutch ensures a reliable transition of power from en-gine to gearbox. The original clutch tends to start smoking and smelling when used in hard conditions, for instance when having to start uphill when fully loaded. This new clutch is almost indestructible and will not smoke even on tough, long uphill drives when use of the clutch is necessary. Developed under the toughest off-road desert conditions as well as ex-treme winter temperatures of -20° C /-4° F. Initially con-cepted for desert and sport, but found to be very useful for whenever clutch reliability is of importance. Recommended not just for long distance adventurers but also for touring riders with passenger and luggage.

Camshaft “BoxerBoost”

The “Boxer Boost” camshaft is a main component of the tun-ing action. Top end power is not so much of a problem with the new generation 1200 engines, but with the camshaft in-stalled, the bike accelerates hard forward and reacts faster to throttle commands. The most important development brief was to ensure that there would be no reduction in reliability, which was proven in long range tests, extreme tours and com-petition. The newly designed camshafts requires the light cam buckets to be installed (see below) as the original buckets are too heavy and are not suitable for this cam. Sold as a single camshaft (2 needed per bike), or as a complete tuning set consisting of two “BoxerBoost” camshafts and 4 light cam buckets.

Single camshaft Part No.: 85301452 Camshafts + 4 buckets set Part No.: 8530154

Light Cam Buckets

These quality cam buckets are ~ 30% lighter than original. The reduction of reciprocating mass in the valve train parts is an important measure of tuning. The lower mass increases response and maintains accurate timing, but also reduces the chance of valve bouncing, valve floating or valve to piston contact (all of which cause expensive damage after a while). The lighter buckets are useful for standard engines, but are even more important when performance camshafts are fitted. The buckets are sold as a single unit, and 4 are needed per bike.

Sport Exhaust Header System

To save weight and get the most performance out of your GS this sport header system is the answer:

• Better performance over almost the complete rev range. With a ZARD or WRA silencer plus PerformanceController up to 14 HP and 10 Nm can be gained!

• Low weight as it has no catalytic converter or balance pipe.• Strong sound (about 5 db louder).• With provision to bolt the oxygen sensor in (no modifications of vehicle).• Easy to fit.• Made of strong stainless steel material.• Matched to Original, Zard or WRA silencers, but other silencers fit as well.

Because it has no catalytic converter, it can be used with leaded or race fuels. No TÜV approval, so only for racing pur-poses.

Part No.: 8600243

Remove the catalytic converter? No problem!

This system allows the existing Lambda (oxygen) sensor to be fitted. For the sensor it does not matter if the “cat” is removed as long as it can measure the oxygen and pass the information to the “Motronic” unit. The removal of the cat also allows the use of low quality petrol and usually “leaded” petrol.

Wunderlich TestingWe don’t take chances: Any exhaust system or component is first checked on our in-house Dynojet testing facil-ity and then goes off for long distance testing – so you don’t buy a pig in a poke!

Racing System “WRA-Edition”

Developed for the WRA-Team (Wunderlich Racing Activity) in close cooperation with sport exhaust specialist “Silent Sport” and racing rider Dirk Thelen. The silencer is extremely com-pact and, considering the performance, extremely light (about 3 kg (~6.6 lb). The Boxer motor responds very quickly all the way to the rev limiter with a sound similar to the Boxer Cup racers. The secret of this silencer is in its construction, espe-cially the pre-formed damping (not used for mass production) material that Silent Sport fits into the silencer. The silencer has a “screen” end piece that reduces the volume, but it can be removed if needed. The light weight construc-tion reduces the weight and load, but also optically the bike looks lighter at the back. At the moment not TÜV approved.

ZARD – PowerGun

Power, professional sound engineering and a worldwide unique design. Many manufacturers use one type of silencer adapted for many different bikes, ZARD on the other hand develops and produces small series of exhausts tailor-made for a selected number of bike models. We are very happy to have developed this truly stunning looking silencer together with Zard for the 1200 GS.

• Straight through absorption silencer with very low backpressure.• Up to 4000 rpm dark growl, above it the GS roars out the full 100 horses

with a sound like the old Paris Dakar machines.• About 8 Hp and 5 Nm more. 4 HP more in mid range.• Weight about 4 kg (~8.8 lb) lower than original.• Removable “DB-Killer”• From 2007 models without a protruding centre stand stop, as this is no

longer needed for these models.• Top quality construction, inside parts all made of stainless steel.• Easy to fit, can be used together with original or H&B side cases.• Available in stainless steel “brushed” or polished stainless steel finish.• ABE approved.

The sound this exhaust emits is special and unique. The sys-tem is very nice matched to the Boxer engine, and will de-liver the best performance without removing the DB-Killer. For sport and racing purposes removing the DB killer will result in a beautiful roaring race sound. This is a truly beautiful piece of art, made by the famous exhaust expert ZARD that com-bines best performance, sound and best appearance in one!

Silencer Lowering

This part allows fitting of equally sized cases, something that many GS riders want. Developed initially for our symmetrical case carrier (see details towards the end of this section) it will also fit self made/aftermarket carriers). Due to many rid-ers’ requests we decided to offer this part separately.

The advantages of equal size cases:• Symmetric appearance of bike.• Equal size cases can be fitted (no recess for silencer).• Equal weight distribution and centralised centre of gravity means easier to

handle heavy loaded bike.

The original “high” exhaust may look nice on bikes without cases, but for touring with luggage this is a disadvantage. Made of rust resistant stainless steel and is easy to fit. Suit-able for all ZARD and original exhausts (some small modifica-tions may be needed for other aftermarket silencers).

Frances’ “Enduropale Le Touquet”The worlds’ most famous beach raceStand up to the challenge... It’s the world’s most famous beach race – the three-hour-Enduro in Le Touquet at the French North Atlantic coast. A sophisticated spa for the Paris upper class during the summertime, the little place temporarily mutates to a pilgrimage site for off-road fans in February. Each year more than 200.000 spectators visit this race, and neither cold weather nor rain and heavy wind can deter them. The track’s core is the beach straight which is 8 (!) km long. We thought that especially on this long straight it should be possible for a 2-cylinder-BMW to keep up with 1.000 sports Enduros starting all at the same time. So we entered the former German Enduro champion Dirk Thelen. A true challenge for man and machine in equal measure – after all, Thelen wanted to reach the first bend after the start, at the end of the long straight, in the lead-ers group. To cope with riding in deep sand, Wunderlich replaced the R 1200 GSs’ standard wheels with large 21” (front) and 18” (rear) wheels, standard wheel sizes as used by true off-road motorcycles. In addition, the motorcycle was equipped with a steering damper to ensure that the bike would stay as steady as possible on the track during the expected speeds of more than 160 km/h (~100 mph). For our rider things did not unfold as smooth: Already during the pre-race scrutinising Thelen had to go through trials and tribulations, because for this competition the standard side stand was not allowed due to safety reasons. After the removal of the stand Thelen had to take the motorcycle to the “Parc Ferme” together with the other 1.000 vehicles for the night. There it was jacked up with the heavy workshop lifter, which would bear the weight for one day without problems. On race day the usual excitement prevailed: Instead of 12:30 the riders simply stormed the Parc Ferme half an hour early to get to their bikes. Afterwards, the race participants had to be patient for another hour, before the whole squad headed across the city centre past the casino to the starting position on the beach. Already on the way to the start the first falls occurred when they reached deep sand – but Thelen stabilised the Wunderlich BMW with determined acceleration and positioned himself just behind the current Enduro world

champion David Knight. When the starting shot was sounded the excessive power of the big BMW led to his de-mise: The starting barrier con-sisted of large, about 1.5 m (~5 ft) deep boards, which the motorcycles had to cross. The massive torque of the Boxer had the rear wheel spinning instantly at the crossing, and Thelen found himself stand-ing sideways. Fortunately this didn’t take too much time, he nailed the throttle and chased the other riders who were in front of him already. “There was a heavy storm coming from the front, and it was raining continuously. Suddenly I couldn’t see any-thing anymore because I was immersed in a thick cloud of spume, sand and rain”, Thelen explains. Nevertheless, he kept the throttle open and fought

his way forward until he caught up with the leading group. For that he needed the full performance of the engine, as although the BMW has twice a much capacity than the competitors, it is also twice as heavy and digs itself accordingly deep into the sand. But the real difficulties came at the end of the main straight, the organiser had placed there 3 big jumps for the first time ever. This is something that the R 1200 GS, as a good street Enduro, has not really been designed for. Nevertheless, Thelen didn’t hesitate when he headed for the first one. “The jump wasn’t the problem, but the landing was: The suspension bottomed out hard due to the force of the impact and the bike weaved violently out of control.” With a lot of luck Thelen avoided a fall and went over the last two jumps a bit more carefully. Still amongst the top 20 he then reached his destination: The first curve, after which the route led him through deep sand with further hills and chi-canes back to the starting point. Unfortu-nately he didn’t arrived there riding: A stuck rider in front of him caused Thelen to fall, and he had to drag his bike off the track with the help of five spectators. A sweeper truck took him back to the start zone. Never-theless it was a great experience to partici-pate in this legendary beach race!

21” Front Wheel Conversion

Our rally/racing experience and over 100,000 km touring have shown that the 21” front wheel is perfect for off road riding as well as on paved roads.

• Stable steering in all situations• Good handling on road or off road• Improved steering on sand and mud• Wide choice of tyres• Tubeless tyres can be used (also with tube or foam)• Extremely strong and rigid, Billet machined fork clamp ensures front stays

on track even at high speeds.• Height adjustable yoke, for 19 or 21” wheels• Electronic brake adapter for models from 2007 available separately.• Suitable for bikes with or without ABS• TÜV approved

The larger front wheel rolls much smoother over uneven sur-faces, this makes the steering of the GS much better and sen-sitive and it is easier to control the bike on fast off road tracks. The complete set consists of: Spoked front wheel fitted on an original hub complete with new wheel bearings, WRA fork clamp (see details further on), brake line set, Off-Road mud guard (see details further on) and all needed for fitting. Several colour combination of fork clamp and rim are avail-able.

Important note: Bikes with the new ABS system (all systems from 2007 model onwards without power assisted braking) need to order the electronic adapter separately for the wheel conversion to function correctly. See below for details, order separately.

Fork Clamp WRA

The original lower fork clamp and the wheel spindle are basi-cally the two fixed components of the steering of the GS, all the other mounting points are floating. We clamp both fork tubes with a massive, CNC machined billet aluminium yoke that provides a much more rigid support and addition-ally allows more space between wheel and mud guard. The WRA makes the GS corner like “on rails” and is now better equipped for high loads and difficult road conditions. The steering is much more precise, the rider gets a proper steering feedback and previously felt “weaving” motions (especially with a heavy load) are a thing of the past. This fork clamp was designed as part of our 21” wheel con-version, but as it is height adjustable it is suitable for any front wheel size. Height adjustment can be performed without additional modifications to accommodate a 21” wheel. The clamp is supplied with a complete fitting kit including brake lines. TÜV approved.

A Success Story: 21” ConversionAfter all our testing was completed everyone agreed: Such a conversion has never produced such a revolutionary effect! (Check out our “Trulala” trip report at the end of the cata-logue). In addition the conversion was extensively tested by several known bike magazines such as “Enduro” and “Touren-Fahrer”, and everyone agrees that it completely transforms the GS, and makes it a proper off-road capable touring bike.

Quote from Dirk Thelen (4 times German Enduro-champion):“The GS with the 21” conversion has a much better stability when off-road riding. This means that no matter if on sand or mud, with or without luggage, the front wheel does not sliding away uncontrol-lably. The original 19” front wheel “digs” itself deep into soft ground leading usually to a slide. With the 21” wheel, the rider directs the wheel where he wants to go and the bike follows, just like a “Sport Enduro” bike. The difference is sensational, that’s why I refer to this conversion like a new chassis and a new GS version. The handling defi-nitely positions the bike towards an off-road able touring enduro. On paved roads and with properly adjusted suspension I could not detect any disadvantages. Actually, because of the stiffer lower fork brace the steering was more accurate. My tip: For long distance tours that might include even short stretches of off-road riding this conversion would be the first choice. The differ-ence is so profound it will be noticeable to any rider with even limited riding experience. When using the original wheels, then at least the “soft” lower fork clamp should be replaced by the stiffer version. This increases the rid-ing fun (precise steering and stiffer front) and adds safety. Change of direction and handling are much better, and the “spongy” feeling with heavy loads and/or high speed is gone.”

WILBERS Suspension Units

WILBERS suspension units will greatly improve the handling of your 1200 GS. These are only some of the technical specs:

• “Wet” running rod + Teflon coated bushes• Extremely sensitive response• Improved ground contact of wheel due to superb damping• 44-click “Wunderlich Edition” damping adjustments• Pre-load adjustment (either with nuts or hydraulic depending on model)• Superb finish• ABE approved

We have tested the WILBERS products ourselves in the hard-est possible way. From Siberia to the deserts of North Africa and the middle east, in all weather conditions the WILBERS proved themselves without failure to be a top product and greatly improve the handling of the GS. Can be dialled in for sport/off-road or comfortable touring depending on springs used and settings. Available in a few variations with nor-mal or hydraulic pre-load adjustment, and with a variation of springs to cater to different weights of riders and riding styles. Normally the “Comfort” version is suitable for riders up to 90 kg (passenger and luggage possible). For heavier riders the “Strong” version is available. For extreme loads, (luggage and riders over the total approved weight) the “SuperStrong” version is available.

Syria 2005Over land to Syria in the Winter. With Snow chains and temperatures of minus 20 degrees towards the sun. Even in these cold conditions the Wilbers responded sur-prisingly well and reached operating temperature very quickly.

Pre-Load Adjuster Bracket

This bracket is made of 4 mm (5/32”) thick laser cut alumin-ium plate. The bracket allows the pre-load adjustment knob of the WILBERS rear shock to be mounted conveniently in roughly the same position as the original one. It ensures that it does not interfere with getting on or off the bike, when or off road riding. It will also look better than the regular mounting position. In addition, the adjustable mounting an-gle allows the adjuster to be positioned in a perfect position when our side covers are fitted. Sold as a complete set of silver anodised bracket and fitting kit.

Note: The WILBERS shock has its own mounting system includ-ed, but this bracket offers much better attachment options.

Brake Discs LUCAS

The ultimate, best value for money replacement brake discs by known manufacturer LUCAS. With up to 30% longer life than the standard and at affordable prices they represent the first choice when upgrading the brake system.

Alien 2.0 DiscsThe “Alien” brake discs are made of extremely stable, hard-ened and tempered steel. The manufacturing process using precision laser cutting technology allows the lightweight disc to have complicated contours.

• The special distinctive shapes of the edge allow the disc to “grow” out-wards when heated up (instead of distorting the disc).

• Inceased surface area allows more heat to dissipate.• Constant change of contact area between disc and pad reduces the “grab-

bing” effect, clears water and dirt faster from the pads. • Special surface grinding process eliminates vibration, but also improves the

bedding in of the brake pads (tolerance is less than 1/100 mm). • Galvanised surface treatment protects the disc from corrosion. The even built up and dissipation of heat allows constant pad pressure and

ensures even wear of pads and subsequent long pad life. • ABE approved.

Note: When changing discs it is strongly recommended to change the brake pads as well. Also, make sure to fit + secure the disc bolts with thread locking fluid!

Floating Disc SystemThese brake discs contain all the advantages and properties of the ALIEN discs. Additionally, the “floating” attachment method, whereby the disc is not ridgly connected to the hub, has several advantages compüared to rigidly mounted discs:

• Improved thermal stability. The floating disc has a more uniform tempera-ture which considerably reduces disc warping and reduces stresses. The uniform heat also means uniform thickness of the disc, which means the contact to the pads is better = more efficient braking action.

• Reduced vibration when braking, vibration not transmitted to bike.• Brake disc is always idially aligned, reduced brake “pulsing”.

This disc is an evolution of the Alien disc, it combines perfect braking action with a unique and striking appearance. ABE approved.

Note: When changing discs it is strongly recommended to change the brake pads as well. Also, make sure to fit + secure the disc bolts with thread locking fluid!

Protection Bar Bag Adventure

The Adventure is already pretty wide, so we did not want to add more to the width with side pouches. Instead we designed a clever bag together with Ortlieb; Our Ortlieb-Adventure bags are simply pushed onto the supplied carrier and fixed with an additional quick release connector. They are securely mounted on the tank protector of the Adventure and provide a lot of space for all sorts of small items that cannot be put inside the tank bag but still need to be within easy reach. 100% waterproof because of the patented Ortlieb rolling seal. Each bag comes with its own carrier.

Rear Seat Bag R 1200 GS

A rear seat bag offers an alternative storage capacity to bulky hard cases when riding solo and leaves the tank free. The bag acts as a backrest (depending on seating position), and the load is fitted close to the rider which helps with the weight distribution (compared to the rear carrier). Specially made for the R 1200 GS, it features all the attributes of the Wunderlich range of seat bags including a new improved design and ad-ditional features including:

The facts:• 20 litres volume.• Reinforced walls (keeps shape even when empty).• Strong and secure waterproof zippers.• Reflective strip.• Additional pouches on each side and at front.• 100% waterproof material which is strong, tough and does not bleach +

Case Top Bag

A brand new Wunderlich idea: Additional bags that are fitted on top of the cases on either side. The bags offer a lot of additional space fitted in a very safe position (has proven itself in crashes already). For years we have improvised and strapped all sorts of bags on side cases, the flat topped cases of the 1200 GS allow us now to offer this solid tailor-made system: Adjustable Volume (10-15 litres), reinforced walls to keep the shape, 100% waterproof material which is strong, tough and does not bleach, and Teflon coated on inside. The base is made of special “clinging”-material to prevent chafes on case. Secured to the case with a special, extremely strong quick release “Velcro” type pad (100+ kg /~220+ lb safe), and additionally secured with a strap that runs all around the case with a quick release “Fast Lock”. The cases can still be opened with the bags fitted. The special shape and the way the bag expands have all been designed so that the passenger can sit in comfort, and even use the bag as a comfortable hand rest. They are made for the original BMW side cases, but also fit well on the Gobi side cases.

PackPlus GS

When the passenger seat is not fitted a nice large platform is available for storage. BMW attached 3 loops on each side to secure luggage, but did not provide any for the length of the platform. This can cause problems with luggage moving or even falling off, especially if the rear carrier is not fitted. Also, the lock at the front is otherwise unused, so we have designed a nice looking plug that fills this and additionally provides an additional loop. If the rear carrier is removed, the rear PackPlus fills the gaping hole and again provides another loop so everything can be strapped nice and securely if needed. Both are made of high quality aluminium and are silver anodised. The front one is easily clicked in position like the seat (and removed the same with the ignition key), the rear one is fitted with a supplied central bolt.

Rear Support R 1200 GS

Several of the plastic carriers at the rear of the GS have bro-ken with heavy loads. The leverage on the part, especially when heavy luggage is strapped to it, causes the plastic part to fail. An easy to fit support arm solves this problem and prevents loss of luggage or top case and expensive repairs or replacements. Carrier and support form a triangulated unit that immediately improves the load and leverage applied to the carrier, as the force is directed straight into the metal sub frame of the bike. This part has proven itself on long trips to Morocco, Syria, Siberia and others. Easy to fit, without modifications to bike needed. Sold as a kit complete with all fittings.

Note: Fits with Hepco & Becker side cases but NOT with original BMW cases.

Extreme TestingContrary to the manufacturer recommendation, Gerry car-ried over 200 KG (~440 lb) on the 14,000 Km long Asia Adventure trip (see the trip report a few pages back) on his rear carrier fitted with the support. Even on really rough tracks the carrier system held without damage.

Recommended for use with original or aftermarket top cases

Luggage Plate “Sozius”

When the rear rear seat is removed the area below can be used to carry luggage, not a bad idea. Whoever used this option to carry stuff has found out pretty quickly that the original plastic covers’ paint and surface starts to suffer, and that the whole idea is not executed as it should be. The Wunderlich designed carrier plate allows you to utilise the free space in a safe and secure manner. The plate is attached to the bike exactly like the rear seat, and is locked/unlocked using the regular bike key. Machined slots all around the outer edge al-low luggage to be properly secured to the plate. The Facts:• No damage/chafing of original plastic cover.• Luggage can positioned straight or across (no protruding edges)• Plate reaches far below the rear carrier. Without rear carrier even more

luggage area available.• Strenghtening swages, low weight but very strong and stiff.• Multiple damping points• Easy to attach and remove.• Multiple strapping slots.• Silver coated.

The Facts:• Decent support and strapping of luggage only possible with such an en-

larger.• Many strong strapping points (slots) all around the enlarger.• Adjustment allows plate to be matched to luggage width.• Quick adjustment method, no tools required.• Easy to attach or remove from rear carrier (original only).• Consists of one base plate and two extendable side plates.• Made of light weight aluminium.• Silver coated.

Symmetrical “LockIt” Luggage Carrier

The original “high” exhaust may look nice on bikes without cases, but for touring with luggage this is a disadvantage as one case is smaller (original) or one side sticking out more than the other (most aftermarket). This luggage system made by Hepco&Becker, together with our silencer lowering bracket, allows equal sized side cases finally to be mounted centrally on the GS.

The advantages of equal size cases:• Symetric appearance of bike.• Equal size cases can be fitted (no recess for silencer).• Equal weight distribution and centraslised centre of gravity means easier

to handle heavy loaded bike.• Suitable for all Hepco&Becker cases (cases not included, please order sepa-

rately)• Silver coated steel tubes

The carrier is sold without cases or the silencer lowering kit, please order these separately. The carrier is easy to fit and is sold with a complete fitting kit.
