When we formed Humphrey~McKeown as asongwriting partnership in August 2006, we neverthought we’d release a CD. Back then our pur-pose was to write songs, sell them, and write more.We are first and foremost, songwriters. Creatingmusic, melodies and lyrics that reflect real life joysand struggles is what energizes us and keeps uswriting. It took years of encouragement before westarted to embrace the idea that maybe, justmaybe “we” could perform our own songs. Thishas been a huge adventure for us. Our first CD isa sampling of what we’ve created and hope tobring to you in the coming months and years. Wetruly appreciate everyone who has come along withus to make this possible. We hope we do justice toyour faith in us with the music we’ve recorded here.

My Love Passed Me By

My love fell from Heaven’s skies and on the street I saw him walk byHe didn’t see me so it never came to beSo my love passed my lovin right by; oh, oh

My love fell from Heaven’s skies and all I heard was Satan’s lies “Believe in what you see my dear” And oh he passed my lovin right by; oh, oh

Why didn’t he see me? I’m sure, I’m sure he could set me free If he had looked my way that day

My love fell from Heaven’s skies and on the street I saw him walk byHe didn’t see me so it never came to beSo my love passed my lovin right by; oh, oh

My love passed my lovin right by

Steely Little Heart

Your steely little heart wasn't what I really wantedWhen I asked you for your help gettin' out of my carBut the moment my eyes met yours and I saw that look of hateI knew just then it was the startOf your steely, steely, steely little heart

Your steely little heart wasn't what I really wanted When I'd given you my dream, You're not what you seemAnd the moment that you showd me who you really areI knew just then I'd feel the scarsFrom your steely, steely, steely little heart

Oh, I thought that I could trust youNow what did you do?You said your love would stayThen you took it all away

Your steely little heart wasn't what I really wanted Now it's time that we're apart, now get out of my carWith your steely, steely, steely little heart

I Don’t Care

I don't care if we go walkingI don't care if we stay homeI don't care about what we're eatingI don't don't care if we don'tI don't care about all the things you thinkThat we're supposed to do'cuz all I want is you

I don't care about religionOr who you voted forI don't care about all the kind of thingsThat we should both ignore'cuz this world is trying to tear us downAnd turn our love aroundBut all I want is you

Lay it down - all those things you're thinkingLay it down - when you feel your heart is sinkingMaybe there's a better wayA place for only me and you

I don't care if you're a sinnerI don't care if you're a saintI don't care if you've been bad or good'cuz I don't have one complaintI don't think that I can make itIf my heart could not break through'cuz all I want is you

Could Be Love

What's this achin' in my heart? What's this longin' in my soul? What's this fire that would consume me?What it is I just don't knowCould be love; could be love

I'm not sleepin' through the nightI keep wakin' in this dreamWhere you took me to the playgroundAnd you kissed me by the swing Could be love; could be love

One word, one look, one touchCould be, could be loveI'm fallin' in deeperSo hold on, could be love

What am I supposed to doWhen my heart just wants to fly? Will I live to see this dreamOr will somethin' in me die?Could be love; could be love

I'm tired of these feelingsThat are comin' over meI don't know what to say or feelIt makes me want to screamWhat it is I just dont know...

Do You Think?

Do you think we'll have breakfast in bed?Do you think we'll sleep-in instead? But you're not listeningYour eyes have that glazed over Crazy, fallin over me lookThis is what I thinkYou're not thinking at all

Do you think we'll splash around in the lake?Do you think about the walks we will take? But you're not hearing me Your eyes have that far off Filled up, swimmin’ in love lookThis is what I thinkYou're not thinking at all

Shakespeare was never this in love'cuz you speak my name as your songShakespeare was never this in love'cuz you stare at me all day, all day long

Do you think of all the games we could play?Do you think you'll always love me this way?But you're still dreamin'You're busy with the moon beamin' Stars shinin', planets all alignin'This is what I thinkYou're not thinking at all

I’m Not Missin’ Me

Life is free and easy It gets better every dayBreathin’ in and outHappy all around Even though you’re away

You were the strength that I knew Then you robbed me stone blindBut I’m not all aloneEven though you’re gone When love’s still on my mind

Cuz I’m not missin’ me I like who I became I see a perfect view through fallin’ rain Even when I’m missin’ you

I used to search for your eyes Just like a little girlNow I stand by myself Put my shell onReinvent my world

I gave you my heart and you tore it apartYou’ve gone and I’ve moved on and on

Roll The Dice

They greet, he kisses her cheekWhat was that all about? She laughs as she passes byWhat is she happy about?

So smart - they know what they wantSo nice - they have it allSo smart, so nice - will they think twice?Go on and roll the dice

Soft lights and the mood is just rightWhat is this magic about?Girl and boy, splashin' in joyCan they see what this is about?

Roll lucky sevenFor him, for herRoll lady luckAnd give them the worldRoll the diceAnd don't think twice

He kneels and then she squeals I see what this is all aboutShe sings with her shiney new ringShe flashes it all about

I Wonder Why

I look to heaven and wonder whyHannah can't see the stars in the skyShe doesn't wonder at the moon tonightSitting silent by my sideDoes she feel the evening breeze? Can she hear the wind through the trees?I've asked myself so many timesI wonder why

In the morning the birds will singBut their song won't mean anythingShe won't laugh and she won't playShe's locked inside yet another dayWhat kind of life does she live there? And can she feel how much I care?I've asked myself a hundred timesI wonder why

If I could turn back time To see her face shineWe'd find another waySo her tomorrow's not today

She'll never fall in love with a boyOr have a child and weep with joyThis lonely world is all she knowsWhere is God? Oh, I don't knowWhat kind of Maker leaves her there? How many days will she just stare?I've asked myself a thousand timesI wonder why

She doesn't wonderShe doesn't dreamI wonder why

Embrace The Possibilities

I see one man building upI see one man tearing downAnd I see a life that's turned around In the balance, in the balance

I hear the words "you will, you can"I hear the words " you won't, you never will"Can I hear the voice that's true and clear? In the balance

We all live in the possibilities Who am I to point and disagreeGive me eyes Lord that I can see what you seeEmbrace the possibilities

I need encouragement to startI need a friend to cheer me onAnd I need the hope that change will come In the balance

How many lives become All they were meant to be?Can our God see something more A greater good in you and me?

‘cuz, I see someone soaring highI see another who's afraid to reach Can I see the Master’s hand on each?

When The World Was Young

Hopes, dreams, these are a few of the thingsThat I’d forgotten we once hadI never thought to look back

Love, nothing more, I never thought of us poorWe had each other, we couldn’t loseDo you feel the same too?

Do you rememberThe way we were when we were young?Do you rememberThe world lay before us as we’d just begun?

You and I could touch the sky reaching for our dreamsLeave our cares and learn to fly when the world was youngAnd so was I

A wish and a prayer, these two would carry us thereWhen you awaken could we pretendThat we were young once again?

Grace Around My Heart

You know my unmet needs and You see my unseen dreamsYou see the visions passYou know the questions I ask

Wrap your grace around my heart Let me see your faceTell the story of your love once againI will sing your praise

You know my darkest fearsYou see when danger near You hear unspoken thoughts You see who I am not

You found me dead Lifted my head Breathed life in this stoneAnd called me your own

You hear unspoken thoughts You see who I am not

The Box

There's a box I'm not too proud of filled with all the things I've done And when I'm feeling too good about myself you’d say “sit down and look at one” You know that I’m not gonna read ‘em I know the wretched life I've lived But if I searched right though each and every line there's one thing that I never did

I never gave up on you the way you gave up on me I never wrote you off as a failed life for all the world to seeI never gave up on you even when you took your knocks I never gave up on you and started filling the box

Now the years have slipped by with my hope that you'd see me in some other way ‘cuz that box is now overflowing I see you added another todayAnd now the kids have all but grown up and I'm countin down the days When I'll be left with only a memory but there's one thing that I gotta say

I'd like to take that box and burn it start new from this day on I'd like to know if there's life in me before the Lord comes and takes me home

You passed away ten years today and I’m left here by myself Staring at that hateful box sitting there upon the shelf

So I gathered up my courage and took it down to have a look There were no notes about my failures, only love notes I mistook

You never gave up on me the way I gave up on youI never wrote down these words of love and then gave them back to youYou never gave up on me, though I was blind to seeYou never gave up on me as you were filling the box

Maybe

People on the streetI have no one special to meetThat trumpet player feels my bluesI'm on 10th Street with nothing new

Maybe the clouds will run home and I'll see those birds flyMaybe that singer will swing and tears will be dryI'm caught up in "maybe's" but maybe that's all I'll get

Bestro bread is fine I see them share that bottle of wineThat singers crooning for my painI'm on 10th Street with no fame

You might say I'm crazyYa, not thinkin' straightBut I'm dreaming on 10th StreetOh, it can't be too late

Nightfall comes too soon And drowning rain keeps hiding the moonThe sandmans calling out my nameI'm on 10th Steet, oh, it's a game
