TCS RIM PROFILE

THE WTB DIFFERENCEBecause WTB designs both tires and rims, we canfocus on a consistent interface between the two.While all mountain bike tires are based around anestablished bead seat diameter (559-millimeter for26-inch tires and 622-millimeters for 29er tires) youll

find a wide variance in many brands. Some brandsof tires fit rims so tightly that tools are necessaryfor installation, while others have a looser fit.WTB rims and tires feature a consistent interface foreasy installation.

The I-Beam, found exclusively on Stryker wheels,Frequency Team rims and LaserDisc rims, waspioneered by WTB in 1994. This distinctive,centrally located vertical support counteractsspoke loads and provides torsional rigidity.

Anadditionalbandofaluminumaddedtotherimsidewallthatimproves torsional,radial andlateralstrength. This rib, which replaces the brakingsurface,providesan impressiveboost inrigiditywitha negligibledifferencein weight.This WTBinnovationis foundexclusivelyon StrykerwheelsandLaserDiscandFrequencyrims.

WTBs proprietary GBS (Global Bead System)design utilizes deeper grooves for the beadseats as well as two raised lips that lock the tiresbeads into place on the rim. GBS found onLaserDisc and SpeedDisc series rims featuressuperior tire retention and greatly reduces thechance of burping the tire off the rim in heavylateral loading.

TCS wheels, rims, and tires provide sealanttubeless with complete compatibilityto international standards. The tubelesscompatible TCS rim profile is especiallydesigned for TCS or UST tires and is alsocompatible with tube type tires when usedwith tubes. TCS rim profiles feature superior tireretention capabilities. When mounting a TCSor UST tire on a TCS rim profile very little initialair pressure force is required to inflate tire. Inmost cases a small mini hand pump will provideample air flow for inflation.

This featurefound on Dual Duty rims - is agroove in the braking surface that, when it nolonger exists, indicates that the rim needs to bereplaced due to sidewall wear from the use ofrim brakes.

WTBs On-Ramp provides a consistent tbetween rim and tire for easy installation andination.

12 POINTENGAGEMENTEach LaserDisc rear hub features a cold-forged, fullymachined aluminum hub shell and alloy freehub. Powertransfer is driven through six, double sided stainless pawls,totaling 12 points of engagement.

SEALED CARTRIDGE BEARINGSLaserDisc rear hubs roll on four sealed cartridge bearingsand front hubs utilize two sealed cartridge bearings. Allbearings are stainless steel.

EASILY ADJUSTABLEBearing preload is easily adjustable on LaserDisc Lite rearhubs through the adjustment nut and locknut.

WTB29ERWTB29inch rimsfeature a622-millimeterbead seatdiameter,anda minimum rimwidthof 19-millimeters.A minimumrim widthof 19mmis thedefiningelementthat separates29inchrims from700ctrekking,hybridand roadracingrims.Narrowerrimsarenotdesignedfortodayswider29inchtires.

WTBRIM STRIPSProprietary WTB nylon rim strips are 11-millimeters in widthand are designed to compliment GBS equipped rims. Werecommend using these strips with any GBS WTB rim, aswider rim strips can interfere with the tires bead seat.

WTB SEALANTWe tested every sealant on the market and found this to bethe very best. Race proven and ride recommended.

SWELL BOW

WTB spokes are better by design. At the J-bendthemost likely point for the average spoke to breakthesespokes measure 2.2-millimeters in cross-section. We callthis proprietary feature Swell-Bow. These thicker elbowsfit perfectly into the hub, providing a stiffer, snug fit. The leng th bet ween the J-bend and t he head is critical.Achieving a snug fit increases strength because stress isspread throughout the form fit.

DOUBLE BUTTING

From the 2.2-millimeter Swell-Bow, WTB spokes taper downto 2.0-millimeters, and finally measure 1.8-millimeters atthe center. From the mid-point, the spoke tapers back to2.0-millimeters at the thread. Butting the spoke in thisfashion combats the immense stress the spoke sees at bothends. A narrow mid-section greatly reduces weight withoutcompromising strength. WTB spokes can be used withstandard hub flange spoke holes. Our new Stryker wheelsetuses Sandvik triple butted 3 mm bladed spokes.SPOKE NIPPLES

Stryker TCS wheels utilize alloy nipples to save weight overthe traditional brass variety. Although the brass nipplesfeatured on Speed TCS wheels are more durable, they are upto 20-grams heavier per wheel.

All WTB Rims are Crotchet Type. When ination pressuresover 72-psi /(5-bar) are used, appropriate rim base protectiveap must be tted. Crotchet Type Rims can be used with rigidand foldable bead tires. BEADFolding beads are lighter than conventional steel beads andeasier to install. Steel beads are more economical and bettersuited for aggressive, trail riding applications.

TIRE PRESSUREWTB recommends that tire pressure be checked before eachride. The acceptable pressure range for tubed mountain biketires is 35- to 65-psi (2.4- to 4.5-bar). Road tires must be infatedto 100- to 130-psi (7- to 9-bar). TCS tires must be inatedbetween 30 and 50 psi (2- to 3.5-bar). City/Trekking/Hybridtires must be inated between 50- and 80-psi (3.5- to 5.5-bar). Tire pressure outside of these guidelines can result in a loss ofcontrol or, at the very least, poor performance.

TPI TPI stands for threads per inch. This number refers to thethread count in a tires casing. A lower TPI indicates that thickerthreads are woven into the casing, therefore making it moredurable; a higher TPI indicates that thinner threads are used,therefore making the casing lighter and more pliable. WTBs60 TPI Race and AM TCS tires offer supple, shock absorptionqualities while remaining resistant to cuts and tears.

DUALDNARUBBER COMPOUNDDual DNA is the perfect mix of efficiency, traction anddurability. The centerline tread features a rmer rubbercompound that boasts faster rolling and increased durability,while the side knobs are composed of softer, slower-rebounding rubber that improves control and grip.

Bicycles are emerging as the simplesolutions in a problematic world ofincreasing gas prices, traffic congestionsand environmental degradation. TheBikes Belong Coalition reports that in theUnited States more than 40-percent of allautomobile trips are less than two miles.Riding a bike in lieu of driving a car oversuch distances is economical, healthy andenvironmentally friendly. Unfortunately,100 years of car culture have createda complex network of high-speed freewaysand busy boulevards, leaving some areascompletely unsafe for cycling.Since the mid-eighties, WTB has activelycontributed to bicycle access andadvocacy. Now more than ever, WTBand its sister nonprot organization,Transportation Alternatives for Marin(TAM), are pouring serious time and energyinto the development of cyclists rights.

Through education, diplomacy and a clearfocus on a solution, we have raised cyclingsafety awareness at the local, state andfederal levels. The results are very real andtangible: In 2005, WTB/TAM and the MarinCounty Bicycle Coalition initiated a federaltransportation bill that included $712million in programs promoting safe andefficient travel for cyclists and pedestrians.Numbers of that size may be difficult tofathom, but the effects on bike routesnationwide are easy to appreciate. Thisinvestment in bicycle infrastructure hasalready delivered a marked improvementin terms of mobility and congestion.WTB/TAM also engages in a multitudeof local Bay Area projects that play a vitalrole in the big picture of bicycle advocacy.For example the Cal Park Hill Tunnel,a $25 million bicycle and train tunnelopened in 2010. The Cal Park Hill Tunnel

links a busy ferry terminal with a denselypopulated San Rafael neighborhood andnow protects cyclists and pedestriansfrom a complex freeway interchange andencourages cycling by traveling through,rather than up and over, a steep grade. Weare proud of these accomplishments andcontinue to work hand-in-hand with ouresteemed advocacy partners to keep thismomentum rolling. We encourage youto support local and national advocacyorganizations as well.
