Since I last wrote a lot of activity has happened in the Area in regard to the upcom- ing Pre-Conference Assembly and the General Service Conference. As I mentioned in the February Newsletter the Conference Agenda items would be arriving at my doorstep shortly, and they did! This years GSC will have 54 main and 16 sub agenda items for the 13 Conference Committees, in total the background material contained 607 pages of information. This is where is gets interesting, the final Agenda items finally became available at about 2:30 PM our time on Friday the 15 th and I needed to be “in” Ritzville at 12 noon the next day to meet with several of our past Dele- gates (Gene D., Mike Mc., Dave Mc.) and our current Alt Delegate Mauro P. to have the Agenda selection meeting. I pulled an all-nighter (getting to be pretty common these days) and got the agenda items to the meeting in good order and we had a thor- ough, thoughtful selection process. I am so very grateful for their assistance and gratified that our Area has such qualified servants. As a result of the selection meeting the number of agenda items was boiled down to 9 with about 150 pages of background information. At this point I would like to make it clear that the purpose of the selection meeting is not to simply reduce the number of agenda items that are forwarded to the Area, rather it is a process by which your trusted servants with all of the ability that their experience has provided them, make careful decisions as to which of the many agenda items are germane (especially relevant) to our Area. That does not mean that every agenda item that was selected will provide me with a yeh or neh vote at the conference, some are “special interest” items that will allow our Area to have healthy and dynamic discus- sions about their relevance. The meeting in Ritzville adjourned around 8 PM and I arrived home around 11:30 PM and was at it again by 10 AM the next morning (Sunday Feb. 17) with Mauro as we spent most of the day on the phone pouring over the selected agenda items asking questions to make sure that if some additional in- formation was needed by the Area Committee at the Agenda review meeting we would have that material ready for them. The rest of the week was spent reading background material and preparing for the Agenda review meeting. PDF created with pdfFactory trial version www.pdffactory.com

Area Delegate: Cont. The review meeting in Spokane on Saturday the 23rd at the Alano Club was well attended. Two WSEA 92 past Delegates and the current Alt Delegate were present as well as most of the Area committee. The members pre-sent were divided into 3 groups each with their list of selected Agenda items to consider. Their function was to further refine the back ground material into a format that would address the fundamentals of the agenda topics in a few sentences for placement into the Conference Agenda Topic Summaries for the Agenda Workshop at-tendees to use. The groups did a great job and the resulting summaries were reviewed by the entire body for final edit at the close of the group sessions. Many of you have seen these summaries already at the Agenda Workshops and I think you’ll agree that turning 150 plus pages of background information into a 3 page sum-mary was work well done. Thanks to all of the Area Committee that made themselves available to this vital process of the Conference structure. Sunday the 24th I was up at 6 AM and shortly there after headed out into the Spokane Valley to find a printer that was open early so copies of the background material would be ready for the Workshop starting at 1 PM. Let me tell you not much was open on Sunday, and when I finally found a printer that said it would be no problem to make the copies, when I got there is was definitely a problem, but we worked it out and I got to the Alano Club just in time to get set up for the meeting. The Workshop in Spokane went great and was good preparation for the Workshops in Yakima and Waitsburg which went very well. All have been well attended and I think most have left the meetings enthused about developing an informed group conscience to bring back to the Pre-Conference Assembly in April. What has been most gratifying to me is the attendance by GSRs and interested members. It is rewarding for me to see a new GSR come into the meeting room with that look of confusion and leave with a smile and a vitality for service that they had not possessed on arrival. Tomorrow (March 15th) I will be in Cashmere for Districts 5, 12, 19 and 23’s combined Agenda Workshop and March 30th in Grandview with Mauro for Districts 16, 21 and 24’s Workshop. Additionally, time permitting, I am hopeful that I can attend the Combined Committee Quarterly Workshop in Ellensburg on the 29th. I can finally say that I’ve been to Alaska! But have only seen a couple miles of it. PRAASA this year was held in Anchorage and it was very busy. Three presentations, committee meetings and panels took up the time that I had “up there”. I wish we would have had more WSEA 92 members in attendance but our Area members that were there represented us well. Ginger was there in her capacity as a Non-Trustee Director, Jill chaired the CPC roundtable, Duane was a panel presenter, Mark was the timer for the “What’s on you Mind” sharing ses-sion and Jeff supported us all. I would like to especially thank Dave Mc our panel 56 Delegate for all of his work in preparing the informational packets for me to provide to the Pacific Region Delegates at the Delegates luncheon in preparation for our bid for the 2011 Additional Forum which will take place at this years GSC. OK…start planning for PRAASA 2009, it’ll be a little closer and a little warmer when it meets in Oakland, CA. Our hosting of the Pacific Regional Forum (Aug 29-31) got some good PR as one of the questions during the Delegates “Ask it Basket” was inquiring about information for the Forum and I had the opportunity to share with the entire PRAASA about the new flyer on our Area’s website. Thankfully this last week (3/10-3/14) I had the time to get caught up with some of the paperwork and contacts that I have missed over the last month. If you are in need of anything that I may be helpful with please give me a call and I will do my best to be of service. Until we meet again, take care. Yours in the Fellowship, Rad M. Alt Delegate: Mauro M. Hello to all. First, let me thank all of you for giving me the opportunity to serve you. I can tell already that this is going to be a very busy and hopefully productive rotation for me. On February 16th I met with our Delegate Rad, out going Delegate Dave, and past Delegates Mike and Gene at Ritzville to go over the initial review (607 pages) of material for the Conference Agenda items and the selection process for those items of interest to our Area. I will have to say that it was one of many learning experiences still to come. I thank our past Delegates for their knowledge, wisdom, and their time, for guiding us through this process. On the 23rd of February I attended the review meeting for the presentation of the Conference Agenda item ma-terial to the Area Committee. I was pleased and enthused to see the proactive approach with which all that at-tended corroborated with the review and preparation of the material for the Conference Agenda item work-shops. On the 1st and 2nd of March I joined Rad at the Yakima and Waitsburg workshops which went well and appear to be generating discussion and interest. I have also translated Conference Agenda item background information for the Hispanic Districts and Rad and I plan to hold the workshop for the Hispanic Districts on March 30 in District 16 in Grandview. I continue to work with the Fellowship New Vision database inputting group information and individual/position changes. All new group and individual/position information has to be in by April 30 at 12:00 AM to reflect the new National Directories. Thank you, YIS Mauro P., Alt. Delegate. _________________________________________________________________________________________

Area Secretary: Nancy T. Hi Everybody, Nancy here, your alcoholic Area 92 Secretary. I’ve been busy this weekend getting the Octo-ber minutes printed out, along with the Agenda and the pending motions for the April Pre-Conference Assem-bly so they are ready to mail out to the DCM’s. By the time the Newsletter comes out, you should have all received them, as well as an electronic copy which I have e-mailed to all of you who have e-mail access. I continue to learn more as each task comes along to complete. I am so grateful for Paula, who is gracious enough to answer my many questions. My next task will be to e-mail out a copy of the most recent update to the Area Directory, and making sure I have enough copies of the GSR Orientation Packets for the Assembly next month. Busy, busy, busy! I look forward to seeing you all again in April in Ellensburg! Thank you for allowing me to be of service. .

Area Alt. Treasurer: Byron S.

I hope everyone is having an excellent month. Last month I was able to attend the Yakima Valley Round Up. I had a great time, and learned more about recovery. We had speakers, great food, informative panels, ad infini-tum. I was also able to attend the conference agenda workshop on March 1st in Yakima. Rad did an excellent job as facilitator, and we got to go over the agenda items thoroughly. What I plan on doing this month is to come up with some ideas to possibly help increase our area contribu-tions. If anyone would like to help with an idea feel free to send it to me in an e-mail. My address is ( [email protected]). We might bring up your idea at the Finance Committee Meeting.I would like to person-ally thank all the districts, and groups for your ongoing contributions to the area, they are greatly needed and appreciated,. In the last two months there have been a few new groups that are now contributing, we really are grateful. Keep up the good work. That's about all the news for this month.

Area Treasurer: Diana M. The first quarter has been spent learning to be your treasurer and getting to know the area committee. I’ve had the opportunity to visit with our area delegate, Rad over lunch which is a good thing. Most of the people on the area committee attended the pre conference meeting in Spokane on Saturday February 23 at the Alanon Club. If you get the opportunity to attend one of the pre conference workshops coming to your neck of the woods it would be good to go as there is lots of information being presented.

Now down to finances, the first quarter is going to be costly as we have sent the $1200 to GSO for the confer-ence, paid for the delegate to attend PRASSA as well as part of the funds to go to the General Conference in New York. So far I have written checks totaling $9,268.75. This of course includes the cost of officer’s regis-tration for the April Assembly as well as some expenses from last quarter. Our donations so far have been $10,982.41 so we are self supporting at this point with a balance in our checking account of $4983.55.

We will be discussing some interesting items at the finance committee so I would like to encourage you to at-tend and bring any of your concerns or questions. I do appreciate the privilege of being able to serve you as your treasurer.

District 23 Chelan/Manson

Our District inventory continued at the March District GSR meeting. We had a lively discussion. We talked about encouraging people to commit to a Home Group and serve there. Many people shared that there seems to be a general Area wide decline in service workers.

I have not received a report on how the ski trip to APEX went, but I am sure they had fun. The folks at The End of the Road group are active at carrying their fellowship beyond the walls of their meeting room. April 19th they will hold their 3rd annual steak feed. This will include entertainment, food, bonfire meeting and camping out if you wish. Contact Larry or Tim at 509 687 8467 for reservations and/or information.

The February Birthday Potluck celebrated 66 ½ years of sobriety. These potlucks are held the last Sat-urday of each month.(except December when held New Year’s Eve) They are another great opportunity for fellowship.

On a more personal note, I would like to share how Blessed I feel to be able and allowed to serve my fellow AA’s at the Group and District level. I enjoy the activities and the duties and know they improve the quality of my sobriety. Thank you for this privilege.

Area Newsletter: John S.

The area Newsletter is published monthly, and is based on information I receive from Area Officers, Area ap-pointed Officers, Activities from any and all of the Area’s 24 Districts. In addition, included will be flyers and information regarding activities happening in the Area. This month, we will see just some of the events coming later in the summer. Archive Chairman, Mike B. has scheduled a workshop in June with the added attraction of having a past member of the National Archive Workshop Committee to discuss tips and topics relating to preserving our heritage. Later in the summer a Regional Forum will be held in Spokane, and there will be information coming out about the Forum during the next few months in the Newsletter. I have asked for a few A.A. members to put together a few words about why should we attend a Forum. This month I have received a good example of how a Forum helped Paula T. to discover the importance of Service Work in Alco-holics Anonymous. As editor, I would be happy to receive letters, and comments from the “fellowship” at large any time. I thank you all for letting me be of service.

Hi, My name is Paula, I am an alcoholic.

At one of the pre-conference workshops there was a discussion about the forum coming up in Spokane and I was ask to write a brief article for the newsletter about the Pacific Regional Forum. The Forums were designed to help all the Committees from GSO to keep in touch with the fellowship through out the AA structure. They are informational meetings. The forum explains how AA works, one alcoholic helping an-other alcoholic carry the message and do business for Alcoholics Anonymous. There are no politics in AA the groups are the voice and the people in the groups create that voice. For starters I believe that if you’re at all interested in Alcoholics Anonymous as a whole or how it works the Fo-rum is a great place to learn and meet the people from GSO. My first forum was in Spokane early in my sobriety, it excited and intrigued me so much that I have spent the next six-teen years in some kind of service. I found out why service is so very important not only to help the still suffering Alco-holic but insure AA will be here for those yet to come, the added bonus is that it keeps me sober too. I pray that AA will always be here for those people yet to come into the rooms. I found out how to put the Traditions in my life, how and where the books and pamphlets come from. The love of service and AA comes from your heart not a step up or down the ladder of chairs. Service is my act of gratitude for what the meetings and AA as a whole has personally given me. I truly hope you’ll want to attend the Fo-rum and build a fire of your own for service and understanding of Alcoholics Anonymous. It is the most rewarding thing you can do in your sobriety. Just think of all the friends out there just waiting to meet you. Yours in Service Paula

CPC: Michelle C. Happy Spring from the west side of Area 92 Here is what I have been up to lately: I attended the January Quarterly, and I learned so much! Thanks to all of you who attended the Friday Night CPC Meet-ing and were so patient with me. When I returned, I found my CPC Kit in the mail, so have been voraciously reading that in order to serve you the best I can. I attended the Conference Agenda Review Meeting in Spokane and it was a wonderful experience. It really made me feel connected to the whole triangle of recovery, unity and service. Due to work & personal issues, I was unable to at-tend any Conference Agenda Workshops. I know my DCM Mark will fill me in though. There are a few things I would like to ask you to think about in your CPC Committees before the Combined Quarterly here in Ellensburg on March 29th, and also the Spring Assembly, also here in Ellensburg in April. They are as follows: The first issue, which came from Rads’ Topic for PRAASA – is how are we as a committee serving our youth? How are we serving them through working with the schools in our Area? Are we a consistent presence with the schools having up to date contact information to reach us if they need to? Or have we dropped that ball through the inability to get our CPC Committees up and running, or keep them running through rotations? If this is the case, what can we do to spark interest in CPC work within our fellowship? The second issue I would like you to think about is how we as a committee are serving the still suffering alcoholic who comes through the Justice System. Do the Judges and Attorneys in our Area know what A.A. is and isn’t, what we do and do not do? Many times in meetings we come into contact with those who are court ordered… I was one of those. But although I was court ordered it was the recovery center I attended who actually told me where the meetings were and what type could best help me. What about those who are sent to A.A. directly through the courts or their attorneys? What if they suffer from problems other than alcohol? Do those entities know about our Singleness of Purpose? Do they know how to contact us? Have we presented them with panels? Literature for the professional? These are all important questions. Please discuss the above issues with your committees. I look forward to hearing what you have to say at the Quarterly and the Assembly. Until then I remain grateful for the opportunity to serve you. Peace - Michelle

PACIFIC REGIONAL FORUM 2008

Hosted by Area 92

August 29-31, 2008

Double Tree Spokane Center 322 N. Spokane Falls Court

Spokane, WA 99201

Regional Forums originated in 1975 at the suggestion of the late Chair Emeritus of the General Service Board of Trustees, Dr. Jack Norris. They are weekend sharing and informational sessions designed to help the General Service Board, A.A. World Ser-vices, Inc., the Grapevine Corporate Board, the Grapevine Staff, and the General Ser-vice Office Staff stay in touch with trusted servants throughout the A.A. service struc-ture. There is no registration fee for a Regional or Special Forum. The General Service Board covers the expenses of meeting rooms, transportation and hotel rooms for its board and staff personnel. In many places, area committees, districts and groups cover or defray the transportation and lodging expenses of the trusted servants repre-senting them at a forum.
