The flag of Norway is red with a blue cross that has a white border. This flag was adopted when Norway was united with Sweden in 1821. Before this union Norway had ruled Denmark since the 1300s. The flag depicts Denmark, and the blue cross was added upon uniting with Sweden. The colors represent liberty and revolution. The lyrics to Norways national anthem were written by one of the countys great dramatists and poets, Bjrnstjerne Bjrnson in 1859. The original anthem had a verse tribute to King Carl XV, but was later removed when Bjrnson changed his political views from monarchism to republicanism. The anthem was composed by Rikard Nordraak in 1864. It has never officially been declared the national anthem of Norway, but was performed as so upon Norways independence in 1905. It is the most popular song used as a national anthem since the twentieth century and is sung in schools, and childrens parades across the country.It would be difficult for me to become a citizen of Norway since I have never previously been a citizen. I would have to apply for citizenship through the Norwegian Directorate, which would take substantial time to process, and would require a substantial amount of money.
