C.V. Design and Format• Readability: fonts should be used in a

way to easily identify major sections.

C.V. Design and Format• In the work experience section, there is

two ways to list the jobs: either by reverse chronological order or by function(if I have worked in many companies as a developer for example then I will mention them together then mention the other companies where I have worked at as an analyst and so on.

• Don’t overuse personal language:– Don’t write: "I was promoted to executive team

manager"– But write: " Promoted to executive team

manager"

Writing a Covering Letter

• Together with your CV it is usual to send a covering letter.

• Job advertisements often need a covering letter to highlight the applicant´s best qualities.

• This covering letter needs to tell the person you are sending it to why they should read your CV.

Writing a Covering Letter A covering letter needs to say a

lot more than just: 'Here is my CV!'. It needs to tell the person :

• Why you are the ideal candidate for the job.

• You need to pick out the highlights from your CV that are relevant to this specific application.

• Request an interview.

Try to find out the name of the recipient so that to use 'Dear Mr. XXX', instead of "Dear Sir or Madam".

Structure for a covering letter

First Paragraph• State the job you’re applying

for. • Where you found out about it

(advert in The Guardian newspaper etc. - organisations like to know which of their advertising sources are being successful)

• When you're available to start work (and end if it's a placement)

Second Paragraph• Why you're interested in

that type of work.• Your key experiences and

qualifications and why you are suited for this job

• Why the company attracts you (if it's a small company say you prefer to work for a small friendly organisation!)

waiting for being called for the interview.
