The purpose of Warragul Regional College is to provide for active, creative engagement in learning within a safe, caring environment.

Through diverse curriculum we strive to develop personal skills and promote

excellence. Our aim is to enable all students to effectively participate in a

rapidly changing world.

Outdoor Education

Explore the great outdoors and become familiar with a range of

environments from the desert to the snow, from the beach to the bush.

Set on fifty acres of landscaped gardens in the middle of

Warragul’s sporting precinct, the “School on the Hill” has

been providing secondary education to the Warragul

community since 1911, making it one of Australia’s oldest

secondary schools. Through the amalgamation of Warragul High

School and Warragul Technical School a new entity was born

in 1994, Warragul Regional College, catering for both academic

and vocational pathways. Since 1994 the College has undergone

three major facility upgrades, ensuring that students have access to

a modern learning environment.

Middle School (Years 7 – 9)

The middle school years at Warragul Regional College aim to instil a love of learning in our students.

As well as their core program students have the opportunity to participate in a range of subject electives and additional programs.

Each year level team is overseen by a team leader and a learning manager. The home group teachers in each team support students to build positive relationships with other students. They set a high standard of educational attainment. The middle school teams are also assisted by a curriculum, assessment and reporting leader, and a literacy and numeracy leader and coach.

Progress reports monitor student performance on a five weekly basis. Each report generates a Grade Point Average (GPA.) This allows both staff and parents to monitor performance.

Performing Arts Students can really shine as they develop their talents in

music, drama or dance.

Middle School (Years 7 – 9) Curriculum Diversity

ACE - Advanced Curriculum Enrichment This is a select entry program and caters to high performing students from year 7.

Literacy Support and Enrichment Based on testing a student in year 7 may receive small group literacy support. The year 7 – 9 English teachers deliver programs to cater for all abilities.

Numeracy Support and Enrichment The year 7 mathematics teachers work with mixed ability classes and like ability groups. The year 7 – 9 teachers deliver programs to cater for all abilities.

Extensive Elective Program Textiles, Cooking, Indonesian, Japanese, Music, Drama, Art, Ceramics, Welding, Lead lighting, Woodwork, Metalwork, Agriculture, Human Powered Vehicle (HPV).

Boys’ Program This is a select entry program and caters to applied learners. Course content focuses on literacy and numeracy and experiential learning.

WWW - Warragul and Way Wider This program operates at year 9 once a week for 3 to 4 periods. There are four units of work: Personal Development, Melbourne Experience, Environmental Awareness, Warragul Community.

Camps and extra-curricular opportunities There are three camps which currently run across the middle school;Year 7 - Camp Rumbug, Foster (Transition to secondary)Year 8 - Wilson’s Promontory (Outdoor Education)Year 9 - Canberra (Civics and Citizenship)

Senior School (Years 10 – 12)

In year 10 students are presented with a challenging core curriculum, an extensive elective choice and the opportunity to access VCE subjects, VCAL and VET.(See over for definitions).

Year 11 and 12 students can choose either a VCE, VCAL or VET program, or a combination.

From year 10, mathematics at WRC is streamed and during course counselling, teachers will discuss student’s options in relation to their career goals.

explore the core scientific studies of Chemistry, Physics,

Biology, Psychology and Environmental Science.

Pathways (Senior School)

VCEVictorian Certificate

of Education

VETVocational Educational

and Training

VCE is the certificate that the majority of students in Victoria receive on satisfactory completion of their secondary education. The VCE provides diverse pathways to further study or training at university or TAFE and to employment.

Students can choose from a comprehensive range of approximately 32 VCE studies.

Students at Warragul Regional College have the opportunity to tailor a pathway to meet their career aspirations and future goals in life.

Pathway: University, TAFE Apprenticeships, Traineeship,

Employment.

Pathway: Apprenticeships, Traineeship, Employment, in

conjunction with VCE - University.

VCAL is a hands-on option for students in Years 11 and 12. VCAL gives you practical work-related experience, as well as literacy and numeracy skills and the opportunity to build personal skills that are important for life and work. Like the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), VCAL is an accredited secondary certificate.

This program has three levels of competence: Foundation, Intermediate, Senior

Four core subjects across three days: Literacy, Numeracy, Work Related Skills, Personal Development

One day a week: Structured Work Place Learning

One day a week: VET

VET in the VCE or VCAL allows students to include vocational studies within their senior secondary certificate. Students undertake nationally recognised training from either accredited state curriculum or national training packages which may contribute to their VCE and/or VCAL.

Student Well-Being

Students in both the middle and senior school belong to year level teams. These teams oversee and monitor the academic performance and well-being of students. Each year level team believes in and models our school values of Community, Achievement, Respect and Effort.

Our College is committed to the use of Restorative Practices with students. Restorative Practices rights wrongs and is a no blame approach to dealing with inappropriate behaviour. It promotes an awareness of others, responsibility and empathy. It separates the deed from the doer and is concerned with each person’s rights to equal dignity, concern and respect. Relationship management at WRC is modelled on this approach.

The Positive Awards Scheme recognises student achievement across all areas of school life. The awards reward performance in the following arenas; academic, sporting, extra-curricula, and within the community. WRC believes in giving positive praise and recognising success.

The College has an outstanding Well-Being Team comprising of Student Peer Mediators, a team leader, psychologist, a full-time Chaplain, a school nurse, a re-engagement officer, a Koorie Educator, careers counsellors, MIPS Coordinator and literacy support and intervention. The College also employs a full-time Attendance Officer.

Student Leadership

Warragul Regional College encourages students to make a valuable contribution to school life by serving as a student leader.

Opportunities include Student Union, School Council, Middle and Senior School Captains, sports coaching, Peer Support, the Duke of Edinburgh Program and the World Challenge to name but a few of the opportunities students have to develop their leadership potential.

Sport Represent your school with pride whether it be on an individual level through athletics, swimming or cross-country, or join a team in football, soccer, basketball, netball, cricket and make it through to the state finals.

Graduates of Warragul Regional College are well prepared to make the transition to their post-school destination. Traditionally 50% of our graduates obtain an offer to continue their studies at university. Other popular destinations include further study at TAFE, apprenticeships, traineeship and full time work.

The College is lucky to have a number of farms on which

students can learn about cattle, goats, chickens and sheep

as well as how to grow, prune, maintain and harvest plants.
