    1. (a) What are the main causes of failure of weirs on permeable foundation, and what remedies

    would you suggest to prevent them

    (b) The cross section of a wear is shown in fig 1.calculate (i) uplift pressure at point A

    and E, (ii) Thickness of concrete apron at point B, (iii) Exit gradient. Use Khorlas curves.

    (b) Draw a neat sketch of syphon well drop and explain briefly its componen ts.

    3. What is meant by the terms flexibility, proportionality, setting and sensitivity as

    applied to modules. Derive equation for them and discuss relation between these terms.
