HN’s impact on policy makersThe scientific community has a clear need for powerful, high capacity and dependable infrastructure that can be used to advance their research without exposing it to data loss, corruption or intrusion.

Secure scientific clouds can meet these requirements, and several projects within the EU have been set up to satisfy this demand, including the Helix Nebula project and through GÉANT.

However, further work is needed to integrate existing science clouds, to promote their adoption, and to enhance their usability.

Secure clouds for science applications offer clear benefits in terms of scale, integrity and confidentiality. Further EU work is urgently needed to achieve this goal

Helix Nebula impact on H2020

Make it possible to trade services- Services from commercial and public providers offered on a pay-per-

usage model should be considered eligible costs for EC projects

Model GA article13 — Implementation of Action Tasks by Subcontractors

The beneficiaries must ensure that the majority of the research and development work done by the subcontractor(s) (including the work of the main researchers) is located in the EU Member States or associated countries (‘place of performance obligation’).
