Excerpt from the Sermon Journal, Monday, November 13, 2017Written by Pastor Tom Harrison
“Gain All You Can, Save All You Can, Give All You Can”Wesley wanted every Methodist to work hard. Sometimes options are limited, but there is always a way to be active, whether in a paid position or not. Wesley wanted us to gain money by honest work, not by dishonesty. He stressed frugality, too. Let’s
not waste our time or our money. Wesley taught the greatest purpose of money was to give it away. He made a small fortune in book publishing, but he practiced what he preached and gave most all of it away. Unlike the successful farmer in Luke’s parable, Wesley was an excellent steward. Paul said we were “created to do good works” (Ephesians 2:10). I think generosity is close to the top of the list of “good works.” We simply cannot progress in our faith until we learn to give, not only our time and attention, but our money, for the purposes of God.

Something to Think About:• Ask yourself (or someone else!): Am I truly a generous person with my
money? How am I trying to grow in this?
• Our money follows our hearts. Start somewhere. Let’s lay up treasure in heaven and bless others here on earth, too.

Scripture MemoryScripture memory is one of the primary ways the Holy Spirit renews our minds and helps us think and act like Jesus. As a way of growing together in spiritual maturity, Pastor Tom is challenging us to memorize these verses this week:

11/20 Romans 10:9 That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
For a complete scripture memory list, stop by any Guest Services desk today.

Our mission at Asbury is Helping Others Follow Jesus because we believe Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Following Jesus is the key to life – but it’s only the beginning of the journey.
First, we need to feed our ourselves through Scripture, prayer and worship so that we can then lead others.
We want you to put primary importance on reading, understanding and applying the Scriptures on a daily basis. Asbury has provided the necessary tools to help you through life with the sermon journal, scripture memory and daily scripture readings.
