Worship of the Triune God Second Sunday after Easter | April 26th | The Year of our Lord 2020
Rev. Danny Hyde, Preaching | Denny Price, Piano & Organ Congregation—Bold words | X—Stand, if able
Entering God’s Holy Presence
Call to Worship
LLELUIA! Christ is risen! The Lord is risen indeed! Alleluia!
Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed
people for God, from every tribe and language and people and nation, and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!
To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!
Prayer of Confession & Forgiveness
RACIOUS Father, you sent your Son to die on the cross and to rise from the grave in order to shatter
the power of sin and death and to give us new life by the power of your Holy Spirit!
Yet we confess that in thoughts, words, and deeds we so often choose to remain captive to doubt and fear and to be bound by ways that lead to death: we doubt your love is strong enough for our sins; we fear those who are different from us and therefore close our hearts to their cries and needs; we fall into old ways and shamefully deface your glorious image in us.
But we died with Christ! Because He’s alive, so are we! Forgive us again and enable us by his resurrection power to live no longer for ourselves but for him who died and rose again for us. Amen.
Praising God
The Lord’s Prayer & Prayer for Pure Worship
UR Father, who art in heaven: hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on
earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
Songs XJesus Shall Reign Where’re the Sun (#417)
Jesus shall reign where’er the sun Does its successive journeys run His kingdom stretch from shore to shore Till sun shall rise and set no more
Blessings abound where’er He reigns The pris’ner leaps to lose his chain The weary find eternal rest And all the sons of want are blessed
Chorus To our King be highest praise Rising through eternal days Just and faithful He shall reign: Jesus shall reign!
People and realms of every tongue Dwell on His love with sweetest song And infant voices shall proclaim Their early blessings on His name. Chorus
Let every creature rise and bring Blessing and honor to our King Angels descend with songs again And earth repeat the loud amen! Chorus
XPsalm 3:3–4, 7, A Shield About Me
Thou, O Lord, are a shield about me, You’re my glory; You’re the lifter of my head. Hear, O Lord, how my foes, are growing When I cried out, from your holy hill, you heard. Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, You’re the lifter of my
head.

O
Rise, O Lord, save me from, the wicked Thou shalt strike them, and remove them from the
earth. Thou, O Lord, art my protection Thou dost guard me, and defend me from my foes. Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, You’re the lifter of my
head.
Confession of Faith: Westminster Shorter Catechism Q&A 33–34
XQ 33. What is justification?
Justification is an act of God’s free grace, wherein he pardoneth all our sins, and acceptath us as righteous in his sight, only for the righteousness of Christ imputed to us, and received by faith alone.
XQ 34. What is adoption?
Adoption is an act of God’s free grace, whereby we are received into the number, and have a right to all the privileges, of the sons of God.

Opening Scripture
DO not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may cause you to know
what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the
saints, what is the immeasurable greatness of his power
toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked
in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named,
not only in this age but also in the one to come. Eph. 1

Intercessions
Second Sunday after Easter
LMIGHTY God, who gave your only Son to be for us both a sacrifice for sin and an example of godly life;
give us grace that we may always most thankfully receive his inestimable benefit and daily endeavor to follow the blessed steps of his most holy life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. And all of God’s people say, “Amen.”
General Thanksgiving
LMIGHTY God, Father of all mercies, we, your unworthy servants, do give you most humble and
hearty thanks for all your goodness and loving-kindness to us, and to all men.
We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all, for your inestimable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory.
And, we beseech you, give us that due sense of all your mercies, that our hearts may be sincerely thankful; and that we may show forth your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up our selves to your service, and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory, world without end. Amen.

Paraphrase
Psalter Hymnal, 1957; alt.
7. Show me your mercy true,
your servant’s strength renew,
deliv’rance send.
To me your goodness show,
your comfort, Lord, bestow;
let those who hate me know
you are my friend.
6. How great your love appears
that made death’s gloomy fears
no more dismay;
O God, to anger slow,
save me from ev’ry foe,
your lovingkindness show,
your truth display.

Partial, vv.1-4, 14-18, 52
The Psalter, 1912
6. With blessing is the nation crowned
whose people know the joyful sound;
they in the light, O Lord, shall live,
the light your face and favor give.
7. Your name with gladness they confess,
exalted in your righteousness;
their fame and might to you belong,
for in your favor they are strong.
8. All glory unto God we yield,
the LORD God is our help and shield;
all praise and honor we will bring
to Israel’s Holy One, our king.
9. Blest be the LORD forevermore
whose promise stands from days before.
His word is faithful now as then;
blest be his name. Amen! Amen!
