Welcome from the C4VOA President WorldFest 2016 April 22‐24, Kensington, OH Ahoy Matey: Get ready to set sail with the Pirates of the Seven Ranges. Will your pirate crew be ready to compete in the Pirate Olympics? Will you test your strength and endurance on the rock wall? Will you test just how well you can put that bullet or arrow in its target? Will your crew set sail for WorldFest 2016? It is with great pleasure and joy that I invite you to attend the Central Region Area 4 Venturing Of촦뻨icers Association WorldFest 2016 . This is the 2 nd Annual Central Region Area 4 WorldFest , I can assure you that this event will be amazing. This weekend will be packed with exciting, adventurous, and thrilling activities. The CR Area 4 VOA is currently hard at work to make this one of the best, if not the best Venturing activities you have ever attended. We listened to your opinions, and we’re bringing everything to this event that Venturers said they wanted including, but not limited to, a rock wall, shooting sports, in촦뻨latables, Low COPE course, and games. There will also be Pirate Olympics and a Pirate Dance. I encourage each Crew, Ship, and Council Contingent to form their own pirate crew and come bring your favorite pirate out촦뻨its with you. Welcome to WorldFest 2016 The Central Region Area 4 Venturing Of촦뻨icers Association (C4VOA) invites all Venturers, Sea Scouts, and their guests to attend the 2 nd Annual Area 4 Venturing fun event called WorldFest. WorldFest 2016 will be held on Friday, April 22, through Sunday April 24, at Seven Ranges Scout Reservation near Kensington, OH. Participants may attend WorldFest 2016 as members of a Council VOA contingent or with their crew or ship. WorldFest 2016 is a high energy, action packed weekend of fun that is planned and conducted by the Central Region Area 4 Venturing Of촦뻨icers Association. WorldFest 2016 is to brings Venturers from across the region together to celebrate their successes, share ideas and resources, and develop strategies to improve their crew programs. Venturers and advisors, no matter what their crew specialty is or how long they have been involved will have a great time and leave excited and inspired about Venturing. Our goal is that your only regret will be that the weekend ended too soon! The C4VOA WorldFest 2016 begins with a big party on Friday night (including food, music, and opportunities to make new friends) and culminates on Sunday morning after breakfast. The theme for this year is “Pirates of the Seven Ranges”. Be prepared for lots of fun as your crew enjoys a huge array of innovative and traditional opportunities for action and adventure. We encourage everybody to bring clothes and costumes that re촦뻨lect the pirate theme.

Page 7 Here is an overview of the weekend programs and there is much more detail throughout this handbook. FRIDAY NIGHT Once your Pirate Crew has docked and checked in, come down to the Dining Hall for an Open House Party with snacks and music! Throughout the evening there will be icebreakers and teaming bonding games, followed by Open Mic Night at 10pm. Advisors can grab a cup of coffee and talk with Camp Commissioners in the Advisors Coffee Lounge under the dining hall. SATURDAY ACTIVITIES PROGRAM Saturday morning will open up with some amazing activities, including wall climbing, an obstacles course, jousting, low COPE, shooting and throwing sports, sports, geocaching, and many more. These events will be going on all morning and also during the afternoon activity time block (starting at 1:30pm). Later in the day Crews can compete in the Pirate Olympics of the Seven Ranges. There will also be a Dunk Tank fundraiser for special cause.The Crews will gather for a Pirate Fest from the Seven Seas for dinner followed by an Interfaith Worship Service. After dinner there will be a Pirate Ball. PIRATE OLYMPICS Pirate Olympics will pit crew against crew in their pirate skills. Competitions will include 촦뻨iring cannonballs (balloon launching), walking the plank, tug‐of‐war, and other games. Bring your crew down for this competition to determine the best pirate crew of the Seven Ranges. Join us for the competition or just come to watch. WORLDFEST TRAINING CONFERENCES Starting off the afternoon will be a presentation by National Venturing President Edward Abraham on the future of Venturing followed by a Fireside Chat for youth interested in serving beyond their crew with Central Region Venturing President Brian Parro joined by other youth leaders. Trainings on Saturday will include opportunities for both Venturers and Advisors. All Venturers are encouraged to complete the Mentoring training course, which is required for the Summit Award. Advisors can hear about changes in the Sea Scout program, Seven Habits of Highly Effective Crews, and Council Venturing Programs. Some training will be of particular interest to those trying to support Venturing beyond the crew. SUNDAY MORNING Start your day off right with a hearty breakfast before you hit the road. Be sure that you campsite/cabin is cleaned and ready for check‐out. Stay tuned for exciting information regarding WorldFest 2017. Crews will earn points for competing in all of the activities..

How Much Does WorldFest 2016 cost?
$45 for each participant if you bring your own tent $55 for cabin or platform tent with cot (these prices were discounted for those signed up before January 15, 2016) WHAT DO THE FEES COVER? All registered participants will received a WorldFest 2016 patch, a pirate bandana/necker, lodging, food, and activity programs. Please note the deadlines and details in the registration section below! On‐time registrations must be made online or postmarked by March 21, 2016. The reason it is so early is so we can assign housing, order all the supplies, and be ready to give everyone a quality experience. However, be warned, if you wait that long you may need to bring tents if we are out of bed space by then.

WRISTBANDS WILL BE REQUIRED FOR THE WEEKEND. All persons coming on the 7R Property will need to have a wristband that will be given out at registration by Area Venturing staff. The color of the wristband will indicate a person’s status and access to events and meals. WILL THERE BE A LATE REGISTRATION? Late registration will be all registrations after March 21, 2016. We intend to keep the registration system open through April 1. All registrations are to be paid in full by March 22 to allow us to place orders for patches, neckers and buy enough ammo and so forth. Any crews registering and paying after March 22 will not be guaranteed to receive a patch or necker or ammo chit, but will have all other bene촦뻨its. A limited number of patches and neckers may be on sale at the trading post. DAY VISITORS MAY PURCHASE MEAL TICKETS Walk‐ins will be severely limited. Walk‐in registration is is not for participants, but for special scouting visitors and press. Email your request to [email protected] and we will consider it. Walk‐ins must check in with the Campmaster before entering camp and pay the $5.00 admission charge (which includes lunch). Please comply for our youth’s safety. Please let us know in advance to anticipate your attendance. Meals are $5.00 per meal and can be purchased at the registration of촦뻨ice. CAN WE VISIT FOR THE DAY? Can the Press come and see what is going on? Sure, BUT all visitors (and Press) must register at the camp of촦뻨ice and be cleared by the campmaster and the Professional Staff Advisor for the purposes of their visit. Visitors will not be allowed to participate in any of the activities and events.
Who Can Attend? 1. Registered Venturers or Sea Scouts and their adult advisors must register as part of a crew, ship
or council contingent . 2. Guests that are venturing age: 13 years and completed the 8th grade, or age 14 to 20. 3. Adult guests 21 and over. 4. Boy Scouts of venturing age. 5. Girl Scouts and other youth serving scouting groups of Venturing age.
Individuals in groups 2 to 5 who are not registered as Venturers or Sea Scouts and may only come as guests of a Crew, Ship or Council Contingent. The council contingent must be led by at least two adults registered as Venturing Advisor, Associate Advisor, Committee chair or member of the Council Venturing committee (or comparable positions in Sea Scouting).
The words advisor and president anywhere in this document are generic for Skipper and Boatswain and t hey also apply to the youth and adult in charge of council contingents.
CATEGORIES OF ATTENDEES 1. Participants: All those attending will pay $45/55 to attend and participate.

2. Participant Staff: Staff members who are also participating in the program, whose job is not such that it takes the entire weekend.
3. Staff: Staff members who are non‐participants will pay $30 and will receive promotional items, housing and their meals. A staff non‐participant, for example, is one who comes out to do their part, but does not participate in other events.
4. Vendors and exhibitors: will receive a free complimentary lunch and are more than welcome to join us for any other meal at a price of $5 per meal.
Only participants and staff participants will receive ammunition chits and admission to all of the games and events.
What do we get? GET A COOL PATCH AND A NECKER
A necker you ask? Most of us call it a neckerchief, but to the international world wide scouting community they are known as neckers and is the group identity of international scouts. For the WorldFest 2016 weekend the necker will be our group identity as well and will bear the mark of the pirates. You also get a patch for WorldFest 2016 with a loop suitable for hanging on your uniform shirt.
We think they are fun and hope you do too. Late registrants are not guaranteed patch or necker. TYING YOUR PIRATE'S BANDANA This is easy matey!

FRIENDSHIP KNOT Learn about the international practice of tying friendship knot in the necker of your friend. At check‐in you will be taught to tie the friendship knot and then will tie a knot in your friends necker. Friendship knots are not to be tied in one’s own necker, but in another’s. They are not typically untied.

Please bring your Crew or Ship flag President’s please bring your crew flag to the Saturday morning flag ceremony so they can be raised on the many flagpoles. As you can see in the picture below there are about 25 flagpoles around the patio in front of the main flagpoles. If your council has a Venturing Flag bring it as well. Your flag bearer should be at the flagpole about 7:35am minutes early so the assignments can be made and the number of flags and poles can be sorted out. We will fly every flag even if we have to hang them from the second floor rails.
Registration Process Hold a meeting with your crew and 촦뻨ind out how many want to attend WorldFest 2016. Make sure you have two adults willing to go and count up your participants by gender and ages. You might want to use the paper application on the last page of this handbook to collect the information you need.
Page 13 Participant and Staff Registration must be completed online, but paper registration forms are at the back of this handbook to assist you in gathering the information that the online registration will want.
A free account is required to register. You must create a “MyCouncil” account at Buckeye Council when you 촦뻨irst register at http://tiny.cc/WorldFest . With that account you can go back and modify the information in your registration.
All registration information must be completed by March 21, 2016. At that time all relevant fees must be paid in full.

HOW TO REGISTER
1. One person from your crew, the contact adult, needs to go to the Buckeye Council website and create a MyCouncil account by clicking on join. You could join so you can return to your online registration and edit it.

2. Once your account is established, then you may click on the event and sign up your crew. You can also click on the link at http://tiny.cc/WorldFest
3. 4. Your registration will hold your crew housing in the order in which we receive them. This hold is
a special way to help you get your crew signed up and give you time to collect all their fees, but you must pay for your crew in full by March 21, 2016 or your spaces will be released until the time you are fully paid. Example, say you are the 촦뻨irst crew to sign up and you have a claim on 16 beds. However, you do not pay in full by March 21 and instead do not fully pay until after the overall registration deadline of March 21, 2016. If at that time of housing assignments being made all of the housing is gone you will need to bring your tents.

5. Paying in full secures your spot at the time you do pay in full. Housing is not allocated until after March 21. If enough other crews pay in full while you're still holding, your housing will not be guaranteed.
6. We have access to 96 beds in the leadership village and over 100 or more camp wide, but when they are gone, they are gone.
7. Rooms in the leadership village sleep 4. We will strictly follow youth protection and will not allow mixed genders to be housed in the same room, nor will we allow those under 18 and those over 18 to sleep together. Venturing participants 18 and over are allowed to be housed with adults 21 and over of the same gender. (This is per 2015 Age Change Information provided by BSA at http://www.crventuring.org/Home/Fulltext/s=1&id=344 )
8. If three members of your crew are together in a room that sleeps 4 we have the right to put someone else in there.
Lodging Options There are three options for lodging at WorldFest . There are a limited number of cabins (on a 촦뻨irst‐come basis), a limited number of platform tents, and plenty of space for participants to set up their own tents. There are approximately 200 bunks available in the cabins at Seven Ranges and we anticipate the
demand to be high for the cabins. We expect a limited number of camp supplied wall tents to be made available with two cots per tent. You are advised to bring a sleeping pad. We strongly encourage Crews/Ships to bring their own tents for sleeping.
Crews, Ships and Council Contingents will be housed together given availability and according to youth protection guidelines. To follow the same sleeping arrangements crews may be split as to their sleeping space across the camp. We will resist splitting crews especially over long distances. We will try to minimize that, but it may not be possible to avoid it.

Meals Come and enjoy the cuisine of the Seven Seas. We may be pirates, but we eat good at every port of call. The food at WorldFest will be some of the best food you’ll 촦뻨ind at a scouting event. Meals will be served in the 1000 seat dining hall and include Friday night cracker barrel, Saturday meals and snacks, and Sunday breakfast. The meals are served family style. In 2015 the food was highly rated by the participants. No one was disappointed.
Risk management principles Your crew should be trained in the Scouting Sweet Sixteen of Safety. See the 16 on this webpage http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/HealthandSafety.aspx . Also everyone 18 and over must be trained in Youth Protection for Venturing (Y02). It is advised that all youth in the crews are also trained in Personal Safety Awareness (which is a Discovery Award requirement). SPECIAL NEEDS Seven Ranges is accessible. Please contact us with any questions about food, camping accommodations or other special needs at [email protected] . Once we get your question our special needs chair will get back to you. FIRST AID Emergency staff will be on the property to handle all (hopefully none) medical needs. All participants must have Class A & B Annual Medical Record completed. That means no doctor’s signature is required, but we must have a valid Class A and B for all participants and staff without exception. These will be turned in to the Risk Management chair at check‐in and will be returned in exchange for you cleaning your area and turning in the evaluation survey Sunday morning. Advisors should take care that these re촦뻨lect the current health and medicine state of the individual. In the event of an accident or other incident, the risk management team may respond and act before the Advisor can be located. The Annual Health and Medical Record is our last resort as to the pre‐condition of the patient or victim and must be signed giving permission to treat and transport. Due effort will be given to locate the Advisor (and through them parents that may be in attendance).
Page 16 In addition every crew should bring a small 촦뻨irst aid kit to handle the most minor cuts and scrapes. More serious injuries should be quickly reported to the Risk Management team. Most program leads will be able to reach the 촦뻨irst aid response team by radio. There will always be a radio in the COPE area, the Climbing area, in the dining hall and at each range. Look for staff members to help you with directions. Overnight, send someone for help to the health lodge (near where you checked in). As of this writing we will have on our risk management team, an EMT, an urgent care physician and a special needs coordinator. You can always reach them at the health lodge or by radio, just 촦뻨ind a staff member with a radio.
Weather The weather won’t stop us from having a great weekend. As long as the weather is not severe all
activities will proceed as scheduled. Our dining hall is plenty big to accommodate. In the event of severe weather, 7 Ranges emergency procedures will be followed. During emergency situations all of the participants will be directed where to go. All major areas are connected by radio to maximize safety.
Advisor’s Lounge Are you an advisor? Are you tired? Do you just want to hang out or kick back? Well then we have the place for you! While the youth are having their fun, if you choose, come hang out in the advisor’s lounge. Located below the Dining Hall, coffee will always be on and new friends present to reestablish old friendships, compare notes or just relax. CAMP COMMISSIONERS Two Assistant Council Commissioners well versed in Venturing will be available in and around the Advisor’s lounge to meet all your needs. Need a cup of coffee and to talk about Venturing? This is the spot. Got a problem, these folks can help. COFFEE Little did the kitchen staff know when they took on their role that keeping the coffee pots full would be their biggest challenge. The participants and staff of WorldFest 2015 consumed a total of 1400 cups of coffee through Saturday night. We will stock up!

WorldFest Training Center conferences Training is part of the Area 4 mission to Councils and Crews. We have selected a few conferences for your consideration. Stop by and take a load off your boots and learn about the latest changes and thought in Venturing from the experts. Conferences are held downstairs in the dining hall, as part of our lunch as we hear from our National Venturing President and immediately after lunch around the 촦뻨ireplace. Sign ups are encouraged starting Friday night at the information center near the 촦뻨ireplace. See Mrs. Kimberly Myers for any questions about conferences or training. Walk‐ins are welcomed, but sign‐ups will ensure a spot and that all supplementary materials will be provided. See schedule for exact times. This list of conferences may change up to the date of the event, so make sure you consult the latest information. 1. MENTORING (2 HR. COURSE)
Area 4 Venturing VP ‐ Training, Scot Nielson 2:30 ‐ 4:30 pm Mentoring is a 2 hour course required for the Summit Award. This training is designed to help Venturers understand how to mentor other members of the crew and appreciate the role mentoring plays in personal growth and leadership for both the mentee and mentor. After completing this training, an experienced Venturer will be able to successfully mentor a less‐experienced Venturer through the planning and execution of a crew adventure.
2. SEA SCOUTING CHANGES National Boatswain Edward Campbell, Sea Scouts, BSA 9:00 ‐ 9:45 am Sea Scouting on a vote by the BSA executive board in February 2016 has become it’s own program and no longer a part of Venturing. Come and hear the 2015‐2016 National Boatswain discuss what that means for Venturing and for Sea Scouting. Be sure to ask Edward about his travels to support Sea Scouting across the globe.
3. SEVEN HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE CREWS GTC VOA Advisor Kimberly Myers 10:00 ‐ 10:45 am Why do some crews succeed and others fail? How would you know a highly effective crew when you see it? What can you do to strengthen your own crew? All good questions, come and hear some good ideas to adjust your crew for greater sustainability and more fun.

4. THE COUNCIL VENTURING PROGRAM National Venturing President Edward Abraham, Central Region Venturing President Brian Parro, and Central Region Advisor Kris Zahrobsky 11:00 ‐ 11:50 am A primary mission of the Area VOA is to help councils organize and structure their Venturing programs. A new guide for administering Council VOAs is being released this Spring. Come discuss this new plan with those who had a hand in its production. There has been much confusion how to organize councils for Venturing success, see how this new guide will help everyone from the SE to the Venturing volunteers understand what works for their council. It also becomes a handbook for your formed and active VOA.
5. WHAT IS THE FUTURE OF VENTURING? National Venturing President Edward Abraham 12:45 ‐ 1:00 pm We are proud to host our National Venturing President. The president will talk about the state of Venturing and it’s future and be available to discuss his remarks the rest of the day. How do we make this program grow and become stronger in Area 4 and in our councils? Find out why Venturing growth is important to all of us.

Vendors and Exhibitors information You may showcase your company, business or product to these Venturers if you will come to Seven Ranges this Saturday, April 23 between the hours of 11:00 am and 4:00 pm. We will offer you a table of 6‐8 feet in length for your display. some of the displays will be in the dining hall, others are on the outside covered balcony of the dining hall. We will offer you the table space for the low price of $10 and that will include 1 complimentary lunch. Additional lunches can be purchased at check in for $5 each. If you need overnight accommodations please let us know and that may be available for a separate charge. You will be set up before lunch and the Venturers will tour your exhibits during the Pirate Olympics after lunch until 3:30 PM. Logistics:

● You may start setting up your display between 11:00 am and you must be packed and out of the dining hall at 4:00 pm. We can accommodate an earlier set up time, but we must insist you are out by 4:00 pm so we can set up for the evening meal.
● When you arrive report to and register at the camp HQ and pay and receive a wristband. Everyone on camp must have a wrist band. This is part of our accounting of all persons for both means and for the protection of our youth.
● You will receive one complementary meal with your $10 exhibit and vendor fee. Additional wristbands may be purchased for $5 per person. These will allow the person on the property and include a complementary meal.
● You will be directed to the Dining Hall to unload and set up your stuff. Before doing so please check in at the WorldFest Information Desk inside the dining hall. Mrs. Kazle, Mrs. Murphy or Mrs. Ricketts will show you where to set up. You will be asked to park away from the dining hall after unloading and may retrieve your vehicle after 3:00 PM.

MEET EDWARD ABRAHAM, 2015‐2016 NATIONAL VENTURING PRESIDENT Edward joins us at WorldFest this year and will conduct some of our conferences. You will see him around camp on Saturday. He is from the San Francisco Bay Area Council and is in his second year at San Jose State University. He has been in the Venturing program since he helped reactivate a crew when he was 15. Edward has served in many leadership positions such as crew president and Western Region Area 3 Venturing president, and the 20142015 Western Region Venturing president. He has earned the Venturing
Bronze, Gold, and Silver awards, is an Eagle Scout with a Gold Palm. He has also earned the area, regional, and national Venturing Leadership Awards. Edward is a huge outdoor enthusiast. He loves backpacking, kayaking, climbing, and skiing. Some of his favorite Venturing experiences include snow camping, backpacking along the California coast and in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and every opportunity he has to go to Philmont. He has been to Philmont five times, and can’t wait till he can go back. He has enjoyed teaching Venturing classes at University of Scouting courses around the United States, staffing the National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience at Philmont, and helping to educate Venturers about the new program. MEET BRIAN PARRO, 2015‐2016 CENTRAL REGION VENTURING PRESIDENT
Brian Parro is currently serving as the Central Region Venturing President. As a staff member of the past World Jamboree in Japan, Brian has quite a scouting resume. While from the VOA in Area 7, his current home in Cleveland as he attends Case Western University makes Brian a favorite son of Area 4 Venturing. He has assisted Area 4 including helping lead the Communication Team for WorldFest. He is from the Rainbow Council in Bolingbrook, Illinois. Brian just graduated from Bolingbrook High School as Valedictorian of the Class of 2014 and now at Case Western Reserve University he is majoring in Business Finance with a minor in Economics and Political Science while pursuing a Pre‐law track.
As a Venturer, Brian founded Crew 75 in Bolingbrook, where he served as the Crew President. Through this, Brian became active in Rainbow Council’s Venturing Of촦뻨icers Association. Before joining Venturing, Brian was a Cub Scout and a Boy Scout. Brian has also served as the Senior Patrol Leader, Junior Assistant Scoutmaster, and is currently serving as an Assistant Scoutmaster for his troop, Troop 75. Brian has earned his Arrow of Light, Silver Eagle Palm, the Venturing Arts and Hobbies Bronze Award, Venturing Gold Award, and Venturing Silver Award. He is also a Brotherhood member of Waupecan Lodge #197. Brian has been honored with the Council and Area Venturing Leadership Awards.
Brian has completed the Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews course, as well as National Youth Leadership Training. Since then, he has taught the Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews course at Pathways to Eagle and has served on the National Youth Leadership Training staff for the Rainbow Council, where he is currently the Assistant Course Leader.

MEET KRIS ZAHROBSKY – CENTRAL REGION VENTURING ADVISOR Kris Zahrobsky is the Central Region Venturing Chair/Advisor. Kris is from Pathway to Adventure Council in Chicago, Illinois. A lifetime member of the BSA, he started as a youth Tiger Cub and completed his youth tenure serving as the Central Region Venturing President from 2000‐2001. In 2014 he was awarded the Silver Antelope. Kris is an Arrow of Life Recipient, Eagle Scout, Exploring Gold Award Recipient, Venturing Silver Award Recipient, James E. West Fellow, and Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow. He has also received the Council, Region, and National Venturing Leadership Awards. He has served on a National
Jamboree staff, and was a Crew Contingent Leader for the Fifth Nippon (Japan) Venture. As an adult, Kris serves on the Central Region Committee, National Venturing Committee, National Venturing Cabinet, and National Program Development Committee. Prior to his current role, he served as the Central Region Area 7 Venturing Chair/Advisor from 2001‐2014. Kris enjoys traveling, cooking, softball, bowling, and haunted houses. He, his wife, and their dog, Hawkeye, reside in Willowbrook, Illinois.
MEET EDWARD CAMPBELL, 2015‐2016 NATIONAL BOATSWAIN We are honored to have the Sea Scout National Boatswain join our staff. (The following is an excerpt from Bryan on Scouting last year and Edward has done so much this year including
representing Scouting in the Report to the Nation, meeting President Obama and other leaders in DC. and extensive travel) If Edward Campbell has his way, Sea Scouting will soon be as well known in this country as the rest of Scouting’s great programs. And as the 20152016 National Sea Scout Boatswain, Edward has the power to make it happen. … Edward, a member of Ship 5111 ( Patriotic Pearl ) of the Anthony Wayne Area Council, will lead Sea Scouts from across the U.S. as the youth representative on the National Sea Scout Committee. He’ll report to the National Commodore and the National Director of Sea Scouts. He’ll
attend BSA events and represent Sea Scouting to those inside and outside of the organization. Sea Scouts everywhere should feel lucky to have Edward representing them. He is highly driven and welldecorated. Edward has earned the highest awards in Sea Scouting and Boy Scouting: the Quartermaster and Eagle Scout awards. He earned both the previous top Venturing award and the current one: the Silver award and the Summit award. He’s a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow. He plays tennis and made his school’s National Honor Society. ... This guy is impressive.

MEET NATE STEELE, 2015‐2016 CENTRAL REGION VENTURING VICE PRESIDENT OF ADMINISTRATION
Nate Steele is the Central Region Vice President of Administra伀턆on for 2015‐2016. Nate previously served as the 2014‐2015 Central Region Area 4 Venturing President and is from Muskingum Valley Council. Nate is Area 4 Venturing President emeritus and again joins the WorldFest staff to make sure this is a great experience for all of you. Nate will take the youth program lead for the event. Nate is a 19 year old Venturer from Crew 447 and has served as President of Venturing Crew 520 and as the Muskingum Valley Council VOA Vice President of Administra伀턆on, where he led his Council to earn the pres伀턆gious Council Standards of Venturing Excellence recogni伀턆on. In 2016 Nate served as the na伀턆onal chair for the Council Standards of Venturing Excellence award. He is also a CVC for the OA NEXT conference and serves as the Sec伀턆on 4B OA Chief.
Nate is an Eagle Scout and has earned the Outdoor Venturing Bronze Award, Venturing Gold Award, and Venturing Silver Award. He has also been recognized with the Council and Area Venturing Leadership Award the Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow. Nate’s dedica伀턆on to servant leadership is shown through his appointment as staff at NAYLE at the Summit, the 2014 Muskingum Valley Council NYLT SPL, his staffing of Trainer’s E.D.G.E., and serving on summer camp staff of Muskingum Valley Scout Reserva伀턆on for three years as an Aqua伀턆cs Instructor. Nate served two terms as Lodge Chief of Netawatwees Lodge‐424. Nate staffed the canopy tours at the Summit in 2015 and will be a COPE instructor at Philmont in 2016. Nate is a sophomore at The Ohio State University, majoring in Biology with a pre‐med concentra伀턆on. Nate is a member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity at OSU.
MEET JENNY BULLOCK, 2015‐2016 CENTRAL REGION VENTURING VICE PRESIDENT OF COMMUNICATION
Jennifer Bullock is the Central Region Vice President of Communication for 2015‐2016. Jennifer previously served as the 2014‐2015 Central Region Area 6 Venturing President and is from Crossroads of America Council. She joins our communication team for WorldFest.
Jennifer is a member of Venturing Crews 545 and 150. Previously, she has served as President of Crew 545 and as Crossroads of America Council VOA Vice President of Communications.
Jennifer has earned her God and Life Award, Religious Life Venturing Bronze Award, Venturing Gold Award, and Venturing Silver Award. Jennifer has also been recognized with the Council and Area Venturing Leadership Awards.
Page 23 Jennifer has completed the Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews course and National Youth Leadership Training. She has staffed an ILSC course in the Crossroads of America Council. She also serves on staff for Path촦뻨inder District’s Cub Scout Day Camp.
Outside of Scouting, Jennifer is involved with Nu Delta Sigma, the Youth Ministry Society on her campus. In high school, she was involved in choir and served as a section leader her senior year. Jennifer is a freshman at Cincinnati Christian University, where she is studying Youth Ministry.
As the Central Region Vice President of Communications, Jennifer will continue the Region's monthly newsletters, while leading the Areas to publish their own. She will also expand the Central Region's presence on all social media sites! She will continue to promote Venturing and its wonderful opportunities to everyone and anyone she meets!
MEET SYDNEY ROSCOE, 2015‐2016 AREA 6 VICE PRESIDENT Sydney Roscoe joins our staff as one of the youth program leads. She is the 20152016 Central Region Area 6 Vice President of Communications from Erie Shores Council and is a resident of Toledo, Ohio. She was in attendance at WorldFest 2015 and immediately afterward successfully applied for Area 6 Leadership. Sydney is Ahonor roll sophomore at Whiteford High School, where she is in involved volleyball and cheerleading. She has served as Crew 457 President in Erie Shores Council. . She has completed trainings such as, First Aid, CPR & AED, Goal Setting and Time Management, Mentoring Venturing Crews, Crew Officer Orientation, Personal Awareness, Youth Protection, NYLT, and LSC. She has been awarded
Venturer of the Year 2015 from Northwest District, Erie Shores Council. Her dedication to the program is evident through her current appointment on NYLT staff for Erie Shores Council. MEET MATTHEW BURSLEY, INTERNATIONAL ADVISOR
Matthew Bursley is the Area 2 Venturing Associate Advisor ‐ International. He serves to improve the Area's connections with International Scouting domestically and abroad. Matthew also serves on the Michigan Crossroads Council International Committee as the Social media and Venturing relations chair. Some of his International Scouting experiences include the World Scout Jamboree, the World Scout MOOT, multiple events and jamborees across Canada and Europe, and the Michigan International Camporee 2004, 2008, 2012 and will be there in 2016. Matthew was involved in the Karuna Expedition where a small bear, Malenito Karuna, was a symbol of the World Jamboree and part of the Karuna

The Advisor and President, or Skipper and Boatswain, or Council Contingent Advisor and Youth Leader go check in at the Administration building.
● Make sure all of your adults are Venturing Youth Protection trained! This includes all of your 18‐20 yr old adult participants. It is advisable for all youth to have taken Personal Safety Awareness.
● Have two copies of your roster. ● The roster must clearly note the youth in charge and their advisor. Both are required at our
Friday night meeting and Saturday night meeting. ● Copy of your paid receipts (we will have them, but it is better you are prepared). ● Medical forms (A and B) for everyone in your group including adults. You will be leaving these
with the medical of촦뻨icer for the weekend. You will pick them up Sunday morning in exchange for your evaluation.
● Special needs in writing (mobility, dietary and special needs requests) must be made in advance, but bring the same list for us so we can be alerted and reminded.

Schedule EVENING ENTERTAINMENT Friday night when you arrive a party will be held in the Dining Hall. Join in and meet everyone you can. During the party everyone will meet the Area 4 Of촦뻨icers and there will be a meeting for all of the primary adults (Advisor, Skipper, Council Contingent Leader) and primary youth (President, Boatswain, or Youth Contingent Leader). See the detailed schedule below. There will be an open mic for music fun. It will be a fun time for the not so timid and the collectively brave. Bring your guitar. On Saturday night there will be a Pirate Ball. We encourage all Crews/Ships to bring their favorite pirate costumes. Don’t be confused that this is your typical ball. With a pirate twist, join your fellow maties as you see who can strut across the plank better, show off your recently acquired booty, see who took dance lessons while in Pirate’s Cove, and much much more. 2 – Our council does not have a Venturing Of촦뻨icers Association and/or they are not organizing a contingent – can we still attend?
A ‐ Yes. Venturing Crews and Sea Scout Ships may register and attend.
3 – Can we bring guests younger than Venturing Age?
A ‐ No. This event is designed for young adults. The target audience is high school and college age youth, with emphasis toward the older (17 to 20 year old) Venturers. Please do not bring anyone who is not age 13 and in the 8th grade or older.
4 – Can a Boy Scout troop or venture patrol register and attend?
A – No (and maybe Yes). Boy Scouts may only attend as members, or guests of, their council VOA or a Venturing Crew or Sea Scout Ship. – Please email us, and we will help you 촦뻨ind a solution because we want you to be able to “Go Venturing.” Remind your troop, “Every Troop Needs a Crew! “
5 – Nobody I know is going – may I attend by myself?
A ‐ No (and maybe Yes) – Please email us, we will try to help you 촦뻨ind a solution. We cannot accommodate youth members who are not accompanied by an adult advisor, but may be able to connect you with a crew that is attending.
6 – We are having trouble getting adult leaders, but our crew wants to attend?
A ‐ We can work with you to help overcome this problem by helping you connect with another crew, usually from your own council. Please email us ASAP
7 – We do not have camping gear or tents, but this event sounds like fun.
A ‐ WorldFest is for all Venturers, not just outdoors‐based crews. Seven Ranges Scout Reservation has lots of housing in their leadership village. We expect the majority of participants will stay there. Nevertheless, the space will be allocated 촦뻨irst come, 촦뻨irst served, so register early. Late registers may have to tent camp. Food is served in the dining hall, so no worries about cooking or other camp chores.
8 ‐ Registration Deadline ‐ Our Venturers have a hard time meeting deadlines. Why so early?
A ‐ In order to keep the event fee as low as possible we need to know how many are attending ‐ before ordering the patches, neckers (on‐time deadline) and food (촦뻨inal deadline) and other supplies such as ammunition. You must register and pay in advance if you plan to attend! Please do not show up without advance registration

A ‐ If you have special needs please email us at [email protected] ASAP. Seven Ranges is accessible. We will do our best to accommodate them. A special needs form is online for notifying us and was sent to all contingent leaders.
10 – This seems like a fun event to introduce people to Venturing ‐ Can we bring guests – teens that we hope to recruit into our crew?
A – Yes, but read on. Please only bring people who will behave in a mature, responsible, manner, and who identify with the ideals of the Scouting movement and goals of this Area Venturing WorldFest. Please remember that, as a Contingent leader, Ship Skipper or Crew Advisor, you are accountable for the behavior of your crew during the event and adherence to BSA and Event rules. The WorldFest event MUST be a safe place for all participants. Be careful to bring recruits who you know and can be accountable for. Please email us if you need clari촦뻨ication or further discussion.
11 – May Girl Scouts or Girl Scout Troops (who are not dual‐registered as Ventures/Venturing Crews) attend the WorldFest?
A – As their own unit, No. However, we welcome their participation, as guests of their local VOA contingent, or a local Venturing Crew. Please contact us if you need help establishing contact with a local sponsor we would love to have you attend. Your Scouts will have a great time!!!
12 – Are all Venturers required to wear the spruce green uniform shirt?
A – No, but we strongly encourage the wearing of the spruce green uniform shirt for the 촦뻨lag raising and lowering ceremonies. At all other times it would be appropriate to wear the uniform of your crew.

Pirate’s Map A WorldFest 2016 Program Schedule (with camp map) will be provided for each participant at the event check‐in, to assist them in planning their activities for the weekend. WorldFest 2016 program activities are an open format and most do not require pre‐registration – we will provide a map of where the activities are located and when they will be open – WorldFest 2016 participants can decide what they want to do and when they want to go.
