DAY 01 : : AIRPORT / PINNAWALA / DAMBULLA / SIGIRIYA or HABARANA

Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport, met & greet by "Raffles Leisure" Representatives and

foster – home of elephants of different

age and size feeding, bathing, playing

together and even mating. These have

been found injured or left abandoned

GOLDEN CAVE TEMPLE

DAMBULLA

In the 1st century B C a king of

Anuradhapura fled the city due to a

South Indian invasion and took refuge in the caves of Dambulla. On recapturing Anuradhapura after 13

years, the king converted the caves in to monastery and gifted it to the

Buddhist monks.

Next, proceed to Habarana / Sigiriya.

DAY 02 : : HABARANA / SIGIRIYA / MATALE / KANDY

SIGIRIYA ROCK

A Prince of the 5th century who committed patricide made the rock of

Sigiriya his hideout in order to stay away from his half-brother who

sought vengeance. This prince Kasyappa by name, not only fortified his

stronghold but also added to it artistic beauty.(declared as a world

heritage site by UNESCO)

Next Proceed to Kandy, en rout visit a Spice Garden,

Visit a spice garden at Matale where spices and herbs used for Sri Lankan cuisine and medication are

grown Spices of Sri Lanka attracted the early sea faring merchants who made the long voyages to

purchase this precious merchandise.

Next proceed to Kandy,

KANDY

A ruled in Kandy up to 1815 although the rest of the island was under the British regime. Finally it was

ceded to them by the Chieftains of Kandy who were disappointed over the king’s cruel deeds. Today

Kandy is one of the most important cities owing to the presence of the

Temple of the sacred tooth of the Buddha.

Visit to Temple of Tooth Relic in Kandy,

p.m. enjoy a typical Sri Lankan Cultural Show of Drumming Dancing

music and fire walking.

later made in to a Botanical Garden during the British regime. This gardens; one of the best in Asia is a

pet in the past is today an element that adds colour to pageants or the gentle Giant that gives pleasure

rides.

The Elephant Safari Habarana (At Village) has become a highlight event to tourist for its excitement and

adventure or even for the "Chance of a Life Time" of riding an Elephant.

The Elephant Safari is a ride on an Elephant with safely secured seat that takes around two hours. The

ride takes you on a bund of an ancient lake built for irrigation then through the jungle and even crosses a




part of the lake where you could get your feet wet whilst seated on Elephant Back. This is fun never to be

missed when in Sri Lanka.

And proceed to the Cultural City of Polonnaruwa,

POLONNARUWA

The Cholas (An Indian Race) who overran the city of Anuradhapura destroying it

to a great extent settled in the village of Polonnaruwa. A Sinhalese king from the

Southern part of Sri Lanka liberated it from the Cholas and made it the second

capital of Sri Lanka.

Proceed back to Habarana, en route excursions in evening,

OPTIONAL - MINNIERIYA or KAWDULLA SAFARI

This will include a Safari tour by jeep with a jungle tracker, where you can see animals in the Jungle,

including elephants, Bears, Wild boar, Dear, Buffalo, Monkeys and many other animals if you are lucky,

Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Bandarawela, are three popular hill stations of Sri Lanka. Nuwara Eliya being

the highest, situated over 6000 feet above sea level is also called “Little England”. As this is where the

British built themselves a home away from home.

The winding road that leads to the hill country through tea plantations that carpet the hills to extents

beyond sight, the water falls that meander cascading down the hills, the misty valleys and scenery are

certainly awe inspiring.

Knuckles Massif or the Knuckles Mountain Range is part of the Hill Country of Sri Lanka which is also

above 3000 Ft or 915 Mts. from sea level and covers an area of about 90 Sq. Miles or 234 Sq. Km of land

extent. This is also called as Knuckles Range or Knuckles Peaks or simply as Knuckles. The reason to call

it Knuckles is because, there is a mountain with five peaks in itself, that looks like the knuckles of a

clenched fist when seen from Kandy area ( or the SW direction of that mountain named as Knuckles with

a height of 6112 Feet ). The Sri Lankan name for this mountainous area is " Dumbara Mitiyawatha " which




means " The Misty Valley ". Since this inner mountainous area is off the motoring roads, it remains as an

unspoilt nature reserve even today.

NUWARA ELIYA

The Hill country of Sri Lanka is a sight to behold. After the heat of the

low lands of Sri Lanka, the diversity of temperature and scenery of the

high lands is incredible.

Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Bandarawela, are three popular hill stations

of Sri Lanka. Nuwara Eliya being the highest, situated over 6000 feet




above sea level is also called “Little England”. As this is where the British built themselves a home away

from home.

The winding road that leads to the hill country through tea plantations that carpet the hills to extents

beyond sight, the water falls that meander cascading down the hills, the misty valleys and scenery are

certainly awe inspiring.

DAY 06 : : NUWARA ELIYA / ELLA / YALA

DAY 07 : : YALA / GALLE /COLOMBO

With picnic breakfast packets visit a jeep Safari in Yala national park,

CITY OF GALLE

Galle is one of the ancient sea ports of Sri Lanka and was an

anchor point in the Silk Route. It was later discovered by the

Portuguese where they built a fortress and the Dutch that

succeeded them fortified it further. This fortress is today a

World Heritage Site.

Next visit Turtle Hatchery.

TURTLE HATCHERY

Projects have been launched to conserve the population of turtles that are reaching extinction and such

projects are found along the southern coast of Sri Lanka where turtles come ashore to lay their eggs. The

turtle digs a hole on the Beach, Lays hers eggs and covers it with sand where it is supposed to, incubate

by the heat of the sun. What often happens is, the eggs are dug out by

fisherman and sold to people who consume them.

But now the eggs are bought up by the conservation projects and are

hatched the Natural way in enclosed areas where the Birds don’t have

a chance of picking them up and the babies are let in to the sea after

two days at night time which offers them a better chance of survival.

And proceed to Colombo.
