Planned GA end of November, early December

Four features in Figure 4 – end user analysis

Enhanced geomaps, able to add pie chart to geomaps, or add custom markers, images, graphics

Scorecard is formatted table that can cover all formatting requirements. A butterfly table has a dimension in

middle, key figure on right and left side

Standard crosstab is dimensions on the left

Spreadsheet is alternative to crosstab; more Excel like, look and feel

Timer can be used as a refresh for near real time scenarios

Tree is a new component – display hierarchical structures; the tree component to displaybookmark folders on BI Platform

CSV file as datasource – in local mode, to help designers and developers create applications

Increased limit of universe connections to 20K rows, multi-source universes, right to left support

Note - the slides below were covered in a demo, but it is hard to capture those in screen shots.

Hi Marcus,

This is a topic where a lot of tears have been shed over the years, but we really do think that we can build a

better product by concentrating on the platform where the overwhelming majority of worldwide Design Studio

customers are; and that's on the BIP.

And we're not pulling the plug on existing scenarios. We're not pulling the plug on existing Netweaver

scenarios, but future functionality will be built for the BIP.

The Future of Design Studio Platform Development

Cheers,

Dave

Hi Tammy,

sounds great - I am also highly interessted in your notes.

Tammy Powlas in response to Stefan Knoerrlein on page 11Nov 5, 2015 4:28 PM

Stefan - yes, things like templates etc. will work with NetWeaver; we had an ASUG webcast on this yesterday

and when I have time I will share my notes on this.

Tammy Powlas in response to Tammy Powlas on page 11Nov 5, 2015 4:27 PM

Mikhail - please see Re: release date design studio 1.6 for your answer

Stefan KnoerrleinNov 5, 2015 4:06 PM

Hi Tammy,

I'm a bit confused regarding the starting point of freezing NetWeaver investments.

All new features coming with 1.6 are actually still supported for NW or not ?

May be you can answer this.

Thanks,

Stefan

Tammy Powlas in response to Mikhail Budilov on page 11Oct 31, 2015 9:34 PM

Mikhail - I am hoping we receive an update on our upcoming ASUG Webcast next week.

Hi, Tammy,

When GA?

Daniel Klein in response to Marcus Preis on page 13Oct 29, 2015 8:07 AM

I agree with you Mr. Preis.

If we would not rely on the BIP for the full feature set, we would not have installed the BIP at all (we are not

using any other BIP tool).

Hanno HetzerOct 28, 2015 3:12 PM

Hi Marcus, Carlos,

I share your concerns. I would like to see the option to use DS directly on BW and HANA being continued. And

if all the data resides in BW or HANA I don't see much benefit added by the BI platform - in contrast BI platform

administration is a really complex task. I don't see why one would need an extra 5GB piece of software to just

store some DS templates. And I don't really believe that adding an extra software layer would increase the

overall reporting performance.

Best regards,

Hanno.

Hi Tammy/Karol,

I am quite excited with planning stuff and have a question,

If we plan for current year - will actuals periods gets disabled/locked ?

Can we add/insert a new line on excel sheet with save to backend functionality? (we have this in DS 1.5).

Appreciate your help.

Thanks

SAI

Carlos Weffer in response to Marcus Preis on page 13Oct 27, 2015 11:20 PM

Hi Marcus

Glad to know I am not the only one with this very same opinion.

Why SAP would like to take options away from customers? I must say, in this case the simpler options. Having

to justify a BIP implementation only because you are planning to use Design Studio seems hard to me.

They way I see it, they are making the life easier for their competitors.

You can count with my help to influence SAP to reconsider this decision.

Carlos

Tammy Powlas in response to Marcus Preis on page 13Oct 27, 2015 5:36 PM

Hi Marcus - thank you for reading and commenting; I am an SAP customer myself. I recommend discussing

this with SAP product management, or perhaps creating a new discussion thread so SAP can reply to your

questions.

Marcus PreisOct 27, 2015 4:58 PM

Hey Tammy,

thank`s for sharing the information about Design Studio 1.6.

I am honestly disappointed about the message that the use case where Design Studio reports are directly

stored on a BW system without using a BI Platform will not be supported in the future.

I have sold this scenario to one of my customers. I am not sure what I`m supposed to tell them now?

I further would only partly support SAP`s point that most customers use Design Studio in combination with BI

Platform. This surely applies to historic Business Objects customers. But if I think of my regular BW customers

I clearly have to neglect that point.

From version 1.5 on, I sensed the feeling that Design Studio is really maturing into a great reporting tool. I was

confident to demonstrate and show it to all of my customers.

They really liked it and were searching for an easy and straightforward use-case. They do not want do

administrate, monitor, install or patch a BI Platform. Neither do they wish to implement complex SSO

scenarios. From my customer base, only one out of many customers uses the BI launchpad as a portal. Most

customers have a sharepoint or a Netweaver portal anyways.

I was really happy when Design Studio usage without the BI platform was announced.

Is there a way to influence the above depicted decision, since each slide of SAP`s presentation states that it is

subjected to change?

Thank you & Cheers,

Marcus

Thanks for the information. This is helpful.

Tammy Powlas in response to Alfred Lee on page 15Oct 23, 2015 4:11 AM

Hi Alfred- I am sorry I just saw your questions after all the Design Studio sessions were done at TechEd Las

Vegas - I recommend watching the recording, or hopefully Karol will answer - I am not sure.

Carlos Weffer in response to Karol Kalisz on page 14Oct 23, 2015 12:11 AM

Hi Karol

Is it UI5 Table from SCN repository based on sap.m.table? Does it provides the "growing" feature?

Cheers

Carlos WefferOct 23, 2015 12:10 AM

Hi Tammy

Thanks for sharing all this info. I am very excited about the new Fiori Components: Foundation for responsive

applications going forward. Great News!!

Cheers,

Carlos

Karol Kalisz in response to Vi Tran on page 15Oct 22, 2015 9:40 PM

Hi Vi,

Crosstab is a component reflecting all specialities from BW as data source. For that, Crosstab is using internal

API to the BICS layer and cannot support right now the custom data sources.

You can use the Scorecard component on any data source, or the UI5 Table from SCN repository.

Great info. Excited for 1.6 to come out. Do you know if you will be able to bind custom DS to the cross tabs?

Alfred LeeOct 22, 2015 4:55 PM

Hi Tammy,

Thanks for sharing.

I have two questions and wonder if you have some ideas.

Does Custom Measure only work in run-time? Can we define Custom Measure in design time in advance?

And for spreadsheet component, does it provide more functions than crosstab? Or it's just a excel-style

crosstab?

Best regards,

Alfred
