Chattel slavery:A form of slavery where a slave is

considered property.

Colonialism: an economic system

based on trading with your colonies.

Plantation: a large farm that grows one

crop for profit.

Roanoke: The first English colony. Also called the lost colony.

Roanoke was in what is now North Carolina.

Roanoke is called the lost colony because all

of the settlers vanished and no one

knows what happened to them.

Jamestown was a successful colony.

Remember that these people had to bring

everything with them or make it.

Jamestown had to make money. They did it by growing

tobacco.

And importing slaves.
