ANNOUNCEMENTS BY THE SECRETARY Dr. Fang announced that Dr. F.Sa McLean, Chief Representative of New Zealand had now arrived. ...He also announced that Dr,, .Aires, Pinto Ribeira, Representative of Portugal-had arrived since the previous Plenary Session,,. 15. WP/ REPORT ON PROGRESS MADE CONCERNING RESOLUTIONS WP/RC2/R3, WP, 7 and 15.1 ITAL HEALTH SEMINAR TO. BE HELD IN AUSTRLLIA AND NURSING SMMIXM TO BE HELD IN CHINA: TAIWAN (WP/RC3/6) .i JD (WP/RC3/6/Add.l) The Secretary gave a short summary of Documents WF/RC3/6 and WP/RC3/6/Add„1 which. described the progress made in the arrangements for°the above seminars. 15.2 /LONG-TERM PMGRAP'TN1E. FOR APPRC1aM TELY. A FIVE-YEAR PERIOD (WP/ J C3/5) The Secretary summarised Document WP/RC3/5 and suggested that be.. cause-of the incomplete information available...the Committee might care.. to adopt the following Resolution: r"The Regional Comirii tt e'... RE-ITERATES the necessity of the development for,the Region of a long-term programme which can be recommended to. the Director General and which will serve as a guide for the preparation of the detailed yearly programmes; a P^Ea°1LIZES the difficulty of. the preparation of such/draft long- term programme without adequate data and information furnished by Member States; CALLS for the co-operation of all Member States in submitting such data and information., and INSTRUCTS the Regional Director to consult further with as many Member States of the Region as possible and prepare a long-term programme for discussion and consideration by the Regional Committee at its next session." There being no objection, the. Resolution was adopted. 15.3/ASSISTANCE TO-MEMBER COUNTRIES IN SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT (WP/RC3/4) The Secretary summarised Document WP/RC3/ 4 which contained a description of the actions he had taken and the various decisions which had le been made by the Executive Board, the Assemblies and TaB. He also referred to the large amounts of supplies and equipment which had been given to certain states by both UNICEF and M.S.L. The Committee approved without comment all the statements made by the Secretary.

14. ANNOUNCEMENTS BY THE SECRETARY

Dr. Fang announced that Dr. F.Sa McLean, Chief Representative of NewZealand had now arrived. ...He also announced that Dr,, .Aires, Pinto Ribeira,Representative of Portugal-had arrived since the previous Plenary Session,,.

REPORT ON PROGRESS MADE CONCERNING RESOLUTIONS WP/RC2/R3, WP, 7 and

15.1 ITAL HEALTH SEMINAR TO. BE HELD IN AUSTRLLIA AND NURSING SMMIXM TO BEHELD IN CHINA: TAIWAN (WP/RC3/6) .i JD (WP/RC3/6/Add.l)

The Secretary gave a short summary of Documents WF/RC3/6 andWP/RC3/6/Add„1 which. described the progress made in the arrangements for°theabove seminars.

The Secretary summarised Document WP/RC3/5 and suggested that be..cause-of the incomplete information available...the Committee might care.. toadopt the following Resolution:

INSTRUCTS the Regional Director to consult further with as manyMember States of the Region as possible and prepare a long-termprogramme for discussion and consideration by the Regional Committeeat its next session."

There being no objection, the. Resolution was adopted.

The Secretary summarised Document WP/RC3/4 which contained adescription of the actions he had taken and the various decisions which had lebeen made by the Executive Board, the Assemblies and TaB. He also referred tothe large amounts of supplies and equipment which had been given to certainstates by both UNICEF and M.S.L.

The Committee approved without comment all the statements made bythe Secretary.

YEN, Chief•Representative for China, the Chief Representative for Vietnamand DR.- PADUA, Chief Representative of 'the' Philippines `expressed the appre-ciation of their respective countries for assistance given by UNICEF and M.S.A.The Chairman also expressed his personal appreciation of the M.S.A. work.Dft. PICKERS, Chief Representative forthe United` Kingdom'. speaking for thevarious United Kingdom territories and other countries,representatives of whichhad 'hot yet' spoken expressed appreciation of all' -the assistance' ,being givenby international health 'organizati'ona'--other than WHO.

17. / REPORT OF THE SUB-COMMITTEE APPOINTED TO STUDY THE ANNUAL REPOW.OF THE

MR. SAITA, Chief 'Representative of Japan, Chai.rman^ presented theSub-Committee's Report,

The Sub-Committee recommended the following Resolution to the Committee:

"The Regional'Committee for the Western Pacific:

HAVING CONSIDEI` 'D THE REPORT submitted by the Sub-Committeeappointed to study the Regional Director's Annual Report,

ACCEPTS the second Report of the Regional Director covering theperiod September 1951 to August 1952.11

DR. BIJLMER, Chief'Representative of the Netherlands observed that no refer-ence had been made in the rep'ort'to'the South Pacific Commission. TheSecretary explained the associations of WPRO with-the South Pacific Commission;and Dr. McLEAN, Chief Representative of New Zealand; referred to the need ofavoiding duplication of efforts. DR. McLEAN also announced that he had beenasked^to make observations for the South Pacific Commission,

DR. PADUA, Chief Representative-of the Philippines, and DR. YEN,Chief Representative of Chi'ria,moved aid seconded the adoption of the Report.

The. Report was adopted unanimously.
