World Book Day!

Today we’ve been celebrating World Book Day. Once again we were simply blown away by the fantastic

efforts everybody made with their book character costumes! Throughout the day several book related events and

celebrations have been taking place. The ‘Vegetable Book’ competition was a big hit with some incredibly crea-

tive entries and marvelous interpretations! The children really enjoyed our ‘Reading Roundabout’ in which they got

to wander around the school to choose a member of staff to read them a story. There’s also the FOPS Book Sale to

look forward to after school too. What a wonderful day! Oh and can you spot Wally and his friends?

Cross Country News

An enormous well done to the children from Y4, Y5 and Y6

who took part in the Newquay Schools cross country finals

this week. As this event was for the best children from the

season, the competition level was very high indeed. The

Perranporth runners all gave incredible performances and

really showed determination to cross the line in their best

possible positions. Several top places were earned with

Ava from Tregrouse Class winning the Y4 girl’s race! Once

again a huge well done to all.

What’s Coming Up Next Week?

Monday 11th March - 9am Y2 Parents SATs meeting in the hall

Wednesday 13th March - Y5 & Y6 Football at Treviglas

Friday 15th March - Scholastic Book Fair during and after school

Friday 15th March - FOPS meeting 9am, all welcome and Red Nose Day

Pirate FM Tonne of Tins Appeal

Thank you very much to everyone who donated tins of food to the Pirate FM foodbank appeal. The

campaign smashed its’ 1 tonne target by actually managing to receive 17 tonnes of tins! This is all

thanks to the kindness and generosity of people like you. We would also like to thank Mrs Stevens

from the School Office for bringing the campaign to our attention and delivering the donations di-

rectly to the foodbank. Thank you! Additionally, the foodbank appeal inspired Merryn in Yr 5 to write this incredible

Comic Relief - Red Nose Day

On Friday the 15th March we will be recognising Comic Relief by coming to school dressed in Red for a

50p donation. We have also starting selling red noses in the hall each morning for £1.25 each. In the first

instance we are only selling one per pupil so that everyone has the opportunity to purchase one if they

wish. A parent has suggested a plastic free alternative to the official red noses. Quite simply the sugges-

tion is that children can use face paints to colour their noses next Friday and maybe donate the money to the char-

ity instead - a lovely idea! We are also happy to recycle any red nose packaging and noses no longer required.

Please feel free to drop them into the School Office.

Considerate Parking Please

Please can we ask, once again, that only parents who are disabled badge holders use the school car park at pick up and drop

off times. We frequently witness near misses with parents rushing in and out of the car park whilst children are making their way

into school. Please can we also ask that parents do not park on the yellow hatched areas. Thank you.

We line up at the foodbank,

Mum’s head held down in shame.

Hoping no one will recognise her,

Or call out her name.

There’s no chatter or laughter here,

As we know how low we’ve come.

The money maths never adds up,

To make and even sum.

The shouting, stress, the tears at home,

The hours of talking of work.

Mum sinking ever down to depths,

That brings to our lives such dark.

Make and mend is the trend,

With remembrances of war.

Tell me how to mend my shoes,

To make my life less sore.

No - we have no fancy TV package,

Or even a TV to watch it on.

But then we have no electricity,

Once the money’s gone.

You pass us by as you leave the hall,

There’s chatter and laughter heard.

The end of the slimming group meeting,

‘Congratulations on eating less’ - always the final word.
