1. Although the Red planet was long thought to be habitable as seen from the Earth, the early space missions could not find evidence that Mars ever sustained long lasting bodies of liquid water.
2. Things have changed dramatically with the pioneering discovery of hydrated phyllosilicates in ancient terrains by OMEGA/Mars Express, confirmed and extended by CRISM/MRO.

We considered that it was the right time for Mars scientists, terrestrial clay experts, extraterrestrial matter (meteoritic) specialists, among many other relevant communities to hear from each other, merge their experience, and envision joined activities both in space and in the lab.
