CHECKMATE Just as Wimbledon is considered the home of tennis and Lord’s the home of cricket, nearby Simpson’s could, in the 19th century, arguably claim the equivalent title for chess. WILLIAM BLAKE A poet, painter but no candlestick maker. Fountain Court which was located on the site of the Savoy Estate and 105 Strand was home to revered English poet and painter, William Blake. It was here that Blake produced his Illustrations to Dante’s Divine Comedy and his Illustrations to The Book of Job.
