Working Together
Great ideas to help us work well in our groupsas we learn about the
Global Food System
Things we need to remember when working in a group:
O Listen to everyone. Share and work together.O Use voting and/or compromising to settle differences
of opinion.O Always encourage and praise your team mates. Be
open to other members' ideas O Include everyone all of the time.O Help someone who asks for help.O Ask the teacher for help only if it is a question of
everyone in the groupO Every member of each group is responsible for all
work. Work hard to do your share of the work.O Remember your role for the day and respect the roles
of others
GROUP ROLES
It works really well when everyone has a job to do in the group.
I will give out role cards so that you all know exactly what your role in you group is
These roles will change in every lesson so everybody has a chance to try out each role
LEADERO Makes sure that every voice is heard O Focuses work around the learning task to
make sure it is completedO Supports and encourages the groupO Pays attention to how group members are
feeling—are they feeling left out? You need to get them involved again.
O Sound bites: • Let’s hear from ____ next.” • “That’s interesting, but let’s get back to our task.”
RECORDER/ KEYBOARD OPERATOR
O Puts group members’ ideas/ answers to questions down on paper or types information, depending on the activity you are doing
O Sound bites: • “I think I heard you say________; is that right?” • “How would you like me to
write this?”
TIME KEEPERO Encourages the group to stay on taskO Announces when time is halfway
through and when time is nearly upO Sound bite:
• "We only have five minutes left. Let’s see if we can wrap up by then.”
PRESENTERO Presents the group’s finished work/
conclusions to the class O Sound bite: • “How would you like this to sound?
TASK MONITORO Briefly leaves the group to get supplies
or to request help from the teacher when group members agree that they do not have the resources to solve the problem.
O Sound bites: • “Do you think it’s time to ask the teacher for help?”• “I’ll get an extra microphone from the shelf.”
Now we’re ready to explore the
