Lockout Device for Air Lines – Dumas Contracting

Dumas’ innovation was developed in response to hazards associated with locking out air and water lines.

Air lines and water lines have primarily been locked out using a chain. But wrapping a chain around valves and pipes can leave room for an error, as the slack in the chain can allow the valve to move.

Dumas’ lockout device has several advantages over typical lockout devices. The device has a:

• Sleeve that fits on to the handle of the valve• Clamp that attaches onto the pipe and can be secured with a lock and tag

As a result, the valve cannot move.

Mechanized Rail Climber (MRC) Guide Rail Stripping Canopy – J.S. Redpath

Redpath’s innovation was developed in response to two hazards associated with stripping MRC guide rail:• MSD injuries from lifting and maneuvering heavy guide

rails• Falls of loose through the drilling canopy.

Redpath’s innovation helps reduce these hazards by the creation of an MRC Guide Rail Stripping Canopy that:• Provides a mechanical means of lifting guide rails• Installs a solid cover over the canopy to block workers

Caged/Screened Crosshead– Dumas Contracting

Dumas’ innovation was developed in response to the fatality of a mechanic in Quebec during a shaft sinking operation.

The mechanic was travelling up the shaft, when the hoist tripped. The mechanic was ejected out of the bucket and fell down the shaft.

Dumas’s caged/screened crosshead protects workers by ensuring anyone travelling in the bucket is totally enclosed. Innovation features include:• Cage enclosure prevents workers from ‘riding the rim’• Workers are provided with overhead protection• Proximity switch is installed on crosshead door with interlock system. The hoist cannot move until the door is closed
