I am a very enthusiastic, hardworking and driven individual who is very willing to try or learn anything that could further me as a designer or illustrator, I know everyone says it but I do genuinely love what I do. I love working with others but feel happy motivating myself to work individually. Quality is very important to me and I take great pride in my work through organisation, planning and research. I received lots of inspiration from things around me as well as the odd good website, interesting article or sometimes even a beer mat. I enjoy modern culture and also enjoy that it is rapidly changing, hopefully for the better. iPads & iPods are making everyone much more demanding which means we all have to up our game, I’m up for a challenge, it makes us all better in the long run.

M&SStore OpeningM&S open a variety of stores throughout the year and in a variety of locations. To create a buzz and a bit of hype around these launches we offer online takoever’s. These provide them with great standout, tell people where and when the opening happens but above all they showcase their creativity and community spirit.

Localising the copy and tailoring your copy is important for national brands in regional media and M&S fully embrace this fact.

KelloggsSummer PitchUsing ‘Why Don’t You...’ we pitched the idea of getting kids out and about and making sure they stay active, using cooking, craft and outdoor activities as a basis. We also pitched the idea of cut-in advertising to make the campaign really stand out.

On winning the pitch I created hand made type to fit in with the Kelloggs Rice Krispies logo, and all the artwork for the campaign. I researched activities to use and created teaser adverts, cut-in adverts and a wall planner and also on-line adverts to promote the localised in paper activity.

Smart way to catchcriminals in countyA STATE-of-the-artsystem of identifyingcriminals has nowbeen installed inpolice custody suitesacross Hampshire.

Every custody suite in thecounty has been fitted withequipment to detectSmartWater, the latest tool infighting crime. SmartWater isbeing used to protect againsttheft from vehicles, business-es and homes.

HarmlessOnce activated, any would-

be thief is sprayed withdroplets of SmartWater Indexwhich, although harmless, ispractically impossible to com-pletely remove from skin, clothing and footwear.

The solution is virtuallyundetectable under normallight, however, any traces ofthe liquid will glow underultraviolet light.

All those entering theforce’s custody suites will

have to walk through theultraviolet lights and bescanned for traces ofSmartWater.

Each SmartWater spray sys-tem contains a unique DNA-style forensic signature, mean-ing that the offender can belinked back to the crime scene.

Because of the durability ofSmartWater, criminals canoften be convicted of a crimelong after it has taken place.

Even the slightest trace ofSmartWater can be analysedfor evidence. SmartWater canalso be painted on to property.

Detective Chief InspectorDick Pearson, of Hampshirepolice, said: “This is anothertool we will be using acrossthe force to detect crime.

“SmartWater is forcingcriminals to think twicebefore committing a crime, asthe risk of getting caught issimply too high.

MitchumSummer PitchMitchum approached us to pitch for there summer activity and we provided them with a specific localised idea based around organised runs around the capital. Also to make the most of local areas I pitched the idea of providing local event information sponsored by Mitchum using there tags line Fresh Ideas for Summer start with Fresh Mums...

We won the pitch and I created all artwork for the campaign. I researched a selection of running tips that was provided to help people get active over a 4 week period leading up to the runs. Then we provided an entire summer campaign of activity and I researched all events for the localised copy ensuring everything was relevant. I also created a Micro site and all on-line advertising which ran within the leisure sections.

Dance judge joins town hall row

THE outspoken dance teacherfrom Dartford, Len Goodman, has written to Bexley Council

urging it not to allow the townhall to become a restaurant withflats above, but to “restore it toits former glory”.

The town hall, in CrayfordRoad, Crayford, is included inplans for a £30m redevelopmentproject for the town centre.

The plans include a newlibrary and health centre, 180flats and a new central square, which it is hoped will become thefocal point of the town.

But some residents are angrythe town hall, which used to be amajor entertainment venue andpublic hall, with council officesabove, will not be retained forcommunity use.

Instead, developer HFHAGroup intends to turn theground floor into a 180-seatrestaurant, with apartments onthe upper floors.

A new, smaller community hallwith an outside roof terrace, willbe provided on the upper floor ofthe new library building frontingthe central square.

The town hall has beenclosed to public use since Octo-ber 2001 after its sprung dancefloor started to subside, althoughthe council has continued touse the upstairs floors asoffices.

In 2002, 10 years after beingsaved from demolition in 1992 bya public outcry, the council putits future on hold, claimingrepairs costing nearly £500,000were needed to keep the buildingin use.

Alan Thompson, chairman ofthe Crayford Forum, which hasbeen leading the fight to keep thetown hall in community use, sayshe has sought expert advice onthe subsiding floor, the onlyremaining sprung dance floor inthe borough.

Mr Thompson claims it wouldcost less than £50,000 to resolvethe subsidence and restore thedance floor to full use.

THOSE people fighting to save Crayford TownHall for public use point back to its heyday asa major entertainment venue.

Dartford lad Keith Richards, now betterknown as one of the Rolling Stones, hasrecalled how he first saw veteran Britishrocker Joe Brown at the town hall in 1962.

It was famous for its cabaret and charitynights which attracted all the big entertain-ment names of the day and audiences includedstars such as John Thaw and DennisWaterman from the television series TheSweeney.

It also hosted Sunday concerts with top

names from Sadlers Wells and the EnglishNational Opera.

The public area of the town hall has its ownstage, dressing rooms and a bar, and has alsohosted large events such as dances held bylocal groups, children’s entertainment andfashion shows.

Len Goodman recalls first dancing in a com-petition in the town hall in 1968.

Alan Thompson, chairman of CrayfordForum, believes the building should be savedfor similar uses in the future and says MrGoodman’s support has been a huge boost forthe forum’s campaign.

BEXLEY Council claims only a minority ofpeople are against the plans for the townhall. The issue has divided Crayford’s council-lors, with two backing the developer HFHAGroup’s proposals, and one siding withthe opposition, led by the CrayfordForum. The council argues the plans to create aground-floor restaurant where the currentpublic space and stage are, and apart-

ments above, are an integral part of theredevelopment scheme. It says as part of the business case for thescheme, Bexley made it clear althoughthere was a preference for communityuses to be retained on the ground floor ofthe town hall, possibly with a cafe orrestaurant, the council was always pre-pared to consider alternative commercialuses which would secure the future of thebuilding, as long as community facilitieswere provided elsewhere in thedevelopment.A council spokesman said the developerhad complied with this requirement of thescheme.

LEN Goodman, now as famousfor his television appearanceson Strictly Come Dancing andits American counterpart ashe is for dancing, has backedCrayford Forum’s efforts tosave Crayford Town Hall forpublic use.

In his letter to Bexley Coun-cil, he says: “With the advent ofStrictly Come Dancing, ourdance studio along with manyothers, has seen a huge resur-gence in ballroom dancing.”

Mr Goodman (pictured)

adds: “One of the prob-lems is finding a venue suit-able for people to dance in.

“We find the need, more andmore, to hire premises for ourevents and the only suitableplace at the moment isWoodville Halls in Gravesend.”

He said he would certainlybe interested in holdingevents at a restored townhall “and possibly even mov-ing the dance school there”,which is currently based inDartford.

Dance expert and lead judge on BBCprogramme Strictly Come Dancing LenGoodman has entered the row over thefuture of Crayford Town Hall. LINDA PIPERreports.

LeisurePursuits.Spare time normally consists of reading, films or some playstation to unwind. Further a field I like sports, I play golf, football and cricket. I can probably hold my own in the majority, oh and I can bowl a bit, Ten Pin that is. An avid football fan despite supporting Sheffield Wednesday and i’ll watch pretty much most sports but do like my American sports ie Basketball and American Football.

I enjoy reading; be it a biography or graphic novel, that and I do like comics. I kind of collect toys but good ones, retro stuff and collectables.

Travelling has been encompassed, I’ve been to Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and Malaysia, I’d like to do more and experience maybe South America and possibly try Route 66 in the States, mainly to see some those ‘World Biggest..’ attractions

I enjoy socialising, cinema and friends are often a good combination, great fans of films and trying new foods [wouldn’t recommend the century egg in Thailand] but willing to try most stuff. Big fan of real ales and trying to develop that sophisticated pallet.
