Headteacher’s update
Dear Parents,
On behalf of all the staff at Wootton Primary
please, accept our heartfelt thanks for your kind
generosity of the many gifts and cards we have
received. We always feel very humble when we
receive gifts and cards from you as we all thor-
oughly enjoy our jobs, and seeing children pro-
gress and grow in confidence is the biggest re-
ward we can ask for. On a personal note, thank
you for your continued support this year, in par-
ticular during considerable staff absence. I am so
grateful to the staff team for their support and
commitment to the school, which is continuing to
improve week by week to ensure your children
get the best education they deserve.
Highlights of the term
We have had a fantastic term which seems to
have flown past. Far too often we get caught up
with the things that may not have gone so well; I
think it is so important to recap on the great
things this term. These are just some of the in-
credible things that have taken place this term:
Our sports teams have continued to demon-
strate both the talent and excellent teach-
ing they receive at school, winning many
tournaments and completing some ‘firsts’
for Wootton. Even this week our boys foot-
ball team won 6-0 against St Francis and
showed great sportsmanship.
Many Year 6 children took part in their
Bikeability courses.
School Council met with the Governors to
present our Anti-Bullying charter and we
have successfully appointed two new parent
Governors.
Fund raising has achieved an incredible
amount for the school, led by our PTA.
Year 6 planned and led a very informative
Remembrance Service.
The school was represented at the lantern
parade.
All classes have engaged with a range of
extra-curricular visits or experiences.
Our performers club represented the school
on a Wightlink ferry, raising money for the
school.
Thank you for continuing to support your chil-
dren with all the events and we look forward to
many more successes next term.
House Points
Children are given House Points throughout the
term for a range of reasons - some for good effort
with their work, others for supporting one anoth-
er or showing kindness to others and school prop-
erty. Once a child has filled their chart with 25
stickers, the points are added to the child’s House
to build the total across the school. For this half-
term the results are:
Simmonds Ennis Murray Wiggins
650 500 525 575

Headteacher
Well done Simmonds House for this term. We
then had a very exciting wait with great anticipa-
tion to see who the winning House for the term
was - we have never had it so close with just 50
points separating the winning House from all of
the others - congratulations to all the children
and in particular the children in Murray House.
Celebrations
The children have clearly enjoyed the celebra-
tions this week and had great fun at their parties
yesterday. Thank you for all the contributions
towards this. Also a big thank you to the parents
and grandparents who supported our walk to the
church and back for our Christingle service. De-
spite a few technical issues, the service was won-
derful and included a treat listening to three of
our very musically talented children perform
Christmas songs on their cello, viola and violin -
well done Alex, Katie and Laura.
Celebration assembly
In assembly this morning we heard from Dylan
in Year 4, who has been awarded a swimming
certificate, from George in Year 6 who has been
awarded a cup for sailing and Daniel in Year 6
who was awarded top striker at a football event -
well done to all of you!
Our top 5 Timetables Rockstars this week are
Ella in Year 3, Daniel in Year 6, Imogen in Year
4, Bailey also in Year 4 and Owen in Year 3. The
overall top 5 winners for this term are - Mrs Gil-
bert, Fergus in Year 6, Ella in Year 3, Mrs Fish
and Violet in Year 4. Well done to all the children
who have been using Rockstars to improve their
Timestables this term. Keep up the hard work as
it really does make a difference to your maths!
I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a
Happy New Year and look forward to seeing you
back on Monday 6th January 2020 for another
full packed term.
