As you are likely aware, many of our families have
been severely impacted by recent floods. At Monday’s
assembly, we let students know that if they need
support with uniforms, stationery items or anything
else, to see their deputy principal or the wellbeing
head teacher. We want to help everyone get back to
normal, so please feel free to contact the school if you
need help.
Kelsey Blackhall, Phoenix Keating and Angela
Poultney were nominated for Lions Youth of the Year.
All three candidates presented themselves beautifully
and the school is very proud to have such fine young
ambassadors. Angela was the overall winner and will
progress to the regional final being held on the 13th
March. We wish her the best for this next step.
Mrs Di Della, our canteen manager spoke at assembly
on Monday. She reminded students about the
canteen’s recycling program and how students who
participate can win a canteen voucher. She also
reminded students that they need to be in uniform to
be served at the canteen. The school supports this.
School uniform is an important part of every student’s
daily routine and sense of belonging in the school.
Please contact your child’s deputy principal if you
need assistance with purchasing a uniform.
From the Principal’s Desk
As you are likely aware, many of our families have
been severely impacted by recent floods. We want to
help everyone get back to normal, so please feel free
to contact the school if you need help.
Just a reminder that for any change in details such as
address, phone number or carer, please complete a
green form at the front office. It is important for us to
have current information. Students are able to pick up
a form to bring home.
I am concerned that some students are bringing vapes
to school. Many are small with fruity flavours and
students may think there is no harm in vaping. Schools
treat the possession and use of vaping products the
same as tobacco. Students will be suspended from
school for repeated use or possession of vaping
products. Please talk to your child about this.
The next P&C meeting will be held on Tuesday 9th
March, 6.30pm in the staff common room. New faces
are always welcome. The WHS Canteen Facebook
page is regularly updated with information from the
P&C. Remember our school Facebook page is a good
source of news and our website is regularly updated
with a variety of important information about our
school and upcoming events.

Starting high school is a very exciting time. Some students
may be nervous about starting high school, as it is a very
different experience to primary school. The important thing for
them to remember is that they are not alone. The Year
Advisor, is here to help and support students during this
transition, and throughout the rest of their high school years.
There are also many other staff and students who are here to
support students during their time at Woolgoolga High School.
We are looking forward to sharing their journey over the next
six years. We will work together as a year group to make
these years happy, rewarding and a pathway into lifelong
learning.

On Wednesday 24 February, HSC PDHPE students visited the
Southern Cross University Exercise Science Building to learn
how Exercise Scientists use technology to assess athletes and
improve athletic performance.
Our students were one of the first groups to visit and experience
this facility due to COVID restrictions being lifted.
Dr Kyle Bennett, lead researcher and lecturer, ran a workshop
enabling our students to measure vertical jump force via iPad
and force plate technology, light gate agility testing and to
understand how these are used to assess athletes. Lactate
testing and GPS trackers were also explained to students along
with a general information session on where studying Exercise
Science at Southern Cross University can lead.
HSC PDHPE visit Southern Cross University
Finally our group was given a tour of the brand new facility which included seeing the Occupational Therapy Unit and
Midwifery Section.
We were extremely appreciative of the time Dr Bennett and his staff gave to our students
and look forward to continued visits to support our students’ learning. All students found the
experience extremely valuable to practically apply what they are learning in the classroom.

Year 10 textiles have just completed their first
project. They have constructed a sewing caddy using
fabrics from Australian designer Jocelyn Proust. This
project is designed and constructed to learn general
sewing skills and the use of the computerised sewing
machine to apply their name. It will hold their sewing
supplies this year.
Their next project is a winter hoodie... keep an eye
out for photos of this next term.

Friday Pathway Focus
Interested students came along to hear Year 12 School Captain Phoenix
Keating talk about his career pathway into the Royal Australian Air Force at
the school’s first Friday Pathway Focus talk last Friday. The fortnightly talks
will feature a guest speaker, usually an ex-student, speaking to current
students and school staff about their career pathway. The next Friday Path-
way Focus talk will take place in the school Library at Break 2 (1.40pm) on
Friday March 12. Interested students and teachers are invited to come
along and listen to the talk.
University Roadshow
Year 11 and 12 students interested in going to university after their HSC attended the annual University Roadshow in the
school Library on Thursday 18 February. Current university students and recruitment officers from four universities includ-
ing the University of New England (UNE), Southern Cross University (SCU), Newcastle University and Charles Sturt Uni-
versity (CSU) provided senior high school students with important information about university life, accommodation
options, course selection, study options, entry requirements and early entry offers, and scholarships. Students were able
to obtain information kits from the universities and chat in person with university students and staff to have their university
questions answered and gain valuable information for their future tertiary learning and career paths.
