In our Language Arts block, we will be covering a vast amount of material. We will be doing writing, reading and spelling on a daily basis.
Each six weeks I will assign a new reading goal (points to earn) to your child. This goal is made using different indicators including the STAR test, student input, and teacher discretion. Your child will need to read within his/her reading range for optimum growth. Reading levels too low will not allow growth, while reading too high will be too frustrating and will affect comprehension level.
In our math block, we will also be covering vast amounts of material. Within a well-balanced mathematics curriculum, the primary focal points at Grade 4 are problem solving and higher order thinking skills, two digit by two digit multiplication, long division, fraction and decimals.
• Math- Homework will be as needed to finish up classwork
• Reading- Read each night
• Spelling- Study each night as tests will be given on Fridays.
• Writing will focus a piece of writing the student produces. It will also have a section that will grade how well a student uses his/her conventions in written grammar. Dates for Writing-April 2&3, 2013
• Math- April 23, 2013
