WOODEN BLOCK TOWING AT CHRISTMAS

(TRADITION)

Block towing has more meaning in each part of Latvia. For one it was burning of hard works in this year,for other it was a symbol of suns quicklier coming.Beforehand on purpose oaks block was prepared.In this oaks bouth ends was thick ropes fasted. In a Christmas evening men towed this oaks block along the yard,from one house to other and through the village.The block was towed through this places, where were any accidents.

Blocks houlerr followed a crowd of noise maked people,so to frighted off all evil ghosts.To prevailed opinion, that they worked specialy at solstice time. Together with the block was burn all last years failures, bad thoughts and bad works.

The burning of block symbolise the start of new suns year,the sun self.The sun is very important for farmer.
