REQUIREMENTS TO ATTEND WOOD BADGE· Registered members of the Boys Scouts of America.

·Have completed basic training courses for your registered position in Scouting.

·Be capable of functioning safely in an outdoor environment. All participants are required to complete the Annual Health and Medical Record form.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT:

As a result of attending Wood Badge you will:

Acquire a global view of Scouting as a family of interrelated, values based programs providing age appropriate activities for youth.

Become familiar with contemporary team leadership concepts

Experience the stages of team development and practice leadership approaches appropriate for those stages.

Have a great deal of fun in the company of interesting like minded individuals.

Develop a renewed commitment to provide Scouting with the best possible leadership.

Wood Badge accomplishes these goals by building all the pieces of the course on a foundation of five central themes. Those themes, and the presentations that directly support them, are as follows:

· Living the Values. Values, Mission, and Vision.

· Bringing the Vision to Life. Listening to Learn; Communication; Leveraging Diversity Through Inclusiveness, Generations in Scouting, Coaching and Mentoring

· Models for Success. Stages of Team Development; The Leading Edge TM/The Teaching Edge TM

· Tools of the Trade. Project Planning; Leading Change; Decision Making and Problem Solving; Managing Conflict; Self-Assessment

· Leading to Make a Difference. Servant Leadership; Leaving a Legacy.

PURPOSE OF WOOD BADGE

The program consists of two parts:1. PRACTICAL TRAINING

During this six–day event, you will live the patrol method. As a member of a patrol, you will prac�ce skills of leadership and learn how to apply these skills in your role as an adult Scou�ng leader. Your Scou�ng spirit and enthusiasm will be renewed and you’ll find yourself doing a be�er job in your

Scou�ng roles.This por�on of the course is presented at Camp

Boddie over two three-day sessions. A mandatory mee�ng of your patrol will be held

between the two sessions.2. APPLYING WHAT YOU LEARN

During Prac�cal Training you will write your Ticket—a set of 5 goals designed by you to be

accomplished by you.You will work your �cket, u�lizing aspects of

what you learned. A Ticket Counselor will work with you to provide help and encouragement.Accomplishing the goals will provide service to others, strengthen your unit Scou�ng program and assist you in an area of personal growth.The Applica�on Phase begins at the end of

Prac�cal Training and lasts 18 months, during which you must complete your �cket.

QUALIFICATIONS

You must be a registered adult leader andhave completed Youth Protec�on and Basic

Leader Specific training for your registered posi�on,Youth 18 and older may a�end as long as

appropriate Youth Protec�on Guidelines are followed.

LIVING ARRANGEMENTS AND EQUIPMENT

You will sleep in non-heated cabins during the first session and move to an outdoor se�ng for the second session, sleeping in your personal tent.

Meals for the first weekend are provided and served in the dining hall. For the outdoor weekend each

patrol cooks for themselves, with their own equipment, from their own menu.

UNIFORM

You’ll wear BSA Field and Ac�vity uniforms

appropriate for your primary role in Scou�ng.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

There is a fair amount of physical ac�vity in a Wood

Badge course. However, most limita�ons can be

accommodated. Contact the Course Director with

any ques�ons before submi�ng your applica�on.

Provide a current BSA Medical Form

(Parts A, B & C completed).

RECOGNITION

When you successfully complete your �cket, you’ll

be en�tled to receive Wood Badge recogni�on,

which consists of “beads” (two wooden beads on a

leather thong), a tan neckerchief, leather woggle

and a cer�ficate. These will iden�fy you as a

Scouter who has completed this advanced training;

they also serve to remind you of your ongoing

commitment to Scou�ng.

Any outstanding balance is due by November 1, 2019.

Par�cipants who are fully paid by November 1, 2019 will be given priority with regards to placement in the course.

$50.00 deposit is NOT refundable UNLESS WE HAVE A FULL CLASS OF 48 FULLY PAID.

Par�al scholarships are available if all other sources of funding have been exhausted.
