Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band realized together with Peter Blake and Joe Ephgraves in 1967, Jann Haworth and her daughter Liberty Blake created a mural work to pay tribute to feminine figures that had a role in transforming the history of arts, science, and social justice. With a collage technique that reminds that of the iconic cover of the Beatles, “Work in Progress Project” is a mural rep- resenting more than 250 portraits of women. The project, conceived by Jann Haworth and Liberty Blake is an “on-going” and collaborative work. Presented for the first time in 2016 at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art in Salt Lake City, the “mural of women” was originially made of seven panels that in just two years have more than doubled. And this is only the beginning. Whenever and wherever they exhibit their “Work in Progress Project”, the artists invite the local community to name new women to represent on the mural, together with the original portrait set. This concept enable to expand the numbers but also the revolutionary message of the work. From Laura Dekker – the youngest sailor to complete the solo circumnavigation of the globe – to Indira Gandhi, Frida Kahlo, Maria Montessori or Michelle Obama, the work reunites many well-known and beloved faces. Expect to see as well Yayoi Kusama, Niki de Saint Phalle, Jane Austen, Marie Curie, Tracy Chapman, Twiggy, Coco Chanel, Sylvia Plath, Naomi Klein, Vivian Maier, and many others... “Work in Progress Project” can be seen complete and life-size at The Leonardo Museum’s Woman / Women Exhibit 2017-2018. Since 2016 the mural has been exhibited at UtahMOCA (Oct 2016), TEDWomen San Francisco (Oct 2016), Congressional Commission Presentation / Women’s Hist.
