The Indian society consists of people from

different religious, linguistic & ethnic

backgrounds Traditionally the Indian societywas hierarchically arranged & the different

communities & caste groups showed a

pattern of social distance in which low caste

& minority groups were discriminated so

through SHG we can eradicate the problems

WHAT IS SHG?

Self Help Group (SHG) is a small voluntary association of

poor people, preferably from the same socioeconomic

background.

They come together for the purpose of solving their

common problems through self-help and mutual help.

The SHG promotes small savings among its members. Thesavings are kept with a bank. This common fund is in the

name of the SHG .

To Achieve Self Reliance Through Self Employment Among Women.empowerment of women.Developing leadership abilities among poor women.Increasing school enrolments and literacy

SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION

Social transformation is a general term which refers to:Change in the - nature, social institutions, social

behaviour , social structures. social relations of a

society and community.

It can also be said as any event or action that affects a

group of individuals that have shared values or

characteristics or acts of advocacy for the cause of

changing society in a normative way.

It is a more rapid change of a society, usually with

a larger scale, through agents such as revolution.

The concept connotes the idea of a particularlydeep and far-reaching change that alters the way

of life of the people within a limited span of time.

Social transformation also refers to various

change over a time with materialistic and non

materialistic culture of human life .

Through SHG we can eradicate followingproblems in the Society.

SHG'S reduces poverty.The rural poor women becomes less vulnerable as itenables them to build assets .SHGs reduces the dependency of poor people onthe money lenders or other financial resources.SHGs elevated the position of women by enhancingtheir contribution to household income.Women have better control over decisions regarding

their lives.Reduction in child mortality & improvement inmaternal health also.

Rural poor who join Self-Help Groups are helped to acquire capabilityand competence to maintain and manage their groups in a productiveway. They are encouraged to undertake income-generating activities, todeal with financial, trading and input agencies and to manage their accounts and activities, etc. in such a way that they continue growingsocially and economically and become progressive and responsiblecitizen of the nation.

SHGs members are exposed to various training programmes toprovide them with the necessary knowledge skills, motivation andcompetence. Hence, the training programmes organized for the SHGmembers are of great significance in the poverty alleviation programme

pursued through Self-Help Groups
