requirements and test methods in educational environments.

These include;

• BSEN 1729 part 1 - Functional dimensions (size and shape)

For any product to fully comply with the standards they must pass both parts of the testing

Helping you to choose the right furniture solution

Choosing the right type of classroom or offi ce furniture can be daunting. Our guide will help you make the right choice for your school. It explains everything you need to know about furniture from MDF edging to powder coated frames.

MDF Edging

Crushed bent classroom tables are manufactured by applying pressure to a length of steel to create a bend. Two bends will be put into one length of steel to create one pair of table legs. This process will be repeated to create a second pair and the two lengths will be welded together with joining cross rails.

Crushed Bent

StandardChair suitable for general use in most areas. Typical classroom chairs are injection moulded from polypropylene, a lightweight thermoplastic with a high impact resistance. Usually they can be stacked and some products feature ergonomic styling for added comfort. Some seating products, i.e. operator chairs are upholstered for extra comfort.

Trespa is the brand name of a type of high-pressure laminate. It is composed of Kraft paper with phenolic resin applied. This type of surface is generally used where resistance is required to chemicals, heat and water.

Fully welded classroom tables are manufactured by welding four straight lengths of steel (table legs) to the crossrails to create a fully welded table frame.

The covering used on table frames is called Epoxy powder. This is then heated to fuse into a protective layer.

BS EN 1729 2007 is the British and European standard for ‘chairs and tables for educational institutions’. This sets out the standards that need to be achieved by education furniture manufacturers for functional dimensions, and also safety requirements for strength and stability. The Easy Access range is a great addition to any classroom and is suitable for all types of learning environments. The beech effect units are supplied complete with a choice of different tray confi gurations. Most units within the range can be supplied in a mobile or static option; some come complete with lockable doors. The static units have a steamed beech solid, hardwood plinth that gives strength and durability, while the mobile units are supplied on 4 castors and can easily be manoeuvred around the classroom. 2 of the castors are supplied lockable for safety when in use.
