Wonderware® InTouch® 9.0

EASE OF USEInTouch software enables users to quickly create anddeploy graphical representations of real-timeindustrial processes.

Simple Configuration

Graphical User Interface (GUI)The InTouch HMI also empowers users to quicklyand easily develop custom graphical views of theirprocesses. A user can develop graphics with avariety of tools in Wonderware’s WindowMaker™

graphical editing program, which includesstandard graphical components, bitmap images,ActiveX® controls and Symbol Factory — anadvanced graphics library that contains thousandsof preconfigured industrial images andSmartSymbols. All of these tools are easy –to useand intuitive, helping users to quickly develop anddeploy visualization applications.

Powerful Wizards and Templates

SmartSymbol EnabledSmartSymbols represent an enormousadvancement in the creation, deployment andmodification of graphical elements inside anapplication. Using the SmartSymbol Manager, application developers can create templates fromgraphics that can connect to ArchestrA® Objectsor InTouch tags through remote references. Thesesymbol templates are saved in the Symbol Libraryand can be instantiated by selecting them anddropping them into an InTouch window.

Standard Library TemplatesSmartSymbols enable object-oriented graphics so thatusers can create standardized libraries of objects thatcontain all the graphics, scripts and tag controls thatan application object needs to be useful. Any graphicin an InTouch window can be converted into aSmartSymbol by right-clicking on it. In addition, libraries of SmartSymbols can be exported to otherapplications and plants, enabling companies tostandardize on graphics throughout the entireorganization.

Super-Fast Change PropagationOnce a SmartSymbol object is deployed, if users needto change an object, they simply modify theSmartSymbol template and the change automaticallypropagates throughout the application, to everywindow in which the SmartSymbol is used. Thismakes changing, upgrading and modifyingapplications very fast and simple. Validating and re-validating applications after modification is alsosimplified with SmartSymbols.

Productivity ImprovementsSmartSymbols can save an immense amount of timewhen it comes to creating new applications andmodifying existing applications. New applications canbe quickly created using standard SmartSymbollibraries, ensuring compliance with standardoperating procedures. Plus, existing applications caneasily be enhanced by modifying SmartSymboltemplates and using NAD (Network ApplicationDevelopment) to automatically upgrade applicationsand windows. Customers benefit from improvedflexibility while greatly reducing the risks and timeassociated with modification.

Powerful QuickScript EditorWith the QuickScript Editor, an InTouch applicationcan be extended and customized to address specificsystem requirements, making InTouch software oneof the most flexible HMI products on the market.Scripts can be configured to execute based onnumerous parameters, such as specific processconditions, data changes, application events, windowevents, keyboard strokes, ActiveX events and more. The QuickScript environment also supportsQuickFunctions, which allow users to develop alibrary of scripts that can be re-used, simplifying theapplication and resulting in decreased initialengineering and application maintenance time andsimplified application deployment.

The QuickScript Editor is simple – to use and allowsusers to completely customize how their applicationsbehave. When creating scripts, users can click onbuttons with common expressions and structures, such as greater than, less than, for-next and if-then-else. Advanced functions, such as math, stringconversion and others, are accessible through aWizard, which prompts the user for the requiredarguments and ensures the correct syntax for thefunction. A built-in validation engine allows the userto validate scripts before deploying them, preventingruntime errors. In addition, for more advanced users, scripts can be written and edited directly in thescript editor, or cut and pasted from otherapplications, encouraging re-use and savingengineering time. The QuickScript Editor gives usersthe flexibility to quickly and easily customize theirapplications. From a novice to an expertprogrammer, everybody can use InTouch scripting.

Easy-to-Use QuickScript Editor

DeploymentThe InTouch Fast Switch allows application developersto switch back and forth between runtime anddevelopment environments at the click of a button.Developers can quickly determine how theirapplications will look and behave before deployingthem into a production environment. In addition, theInTouch HMI can be started as a service, enablingautomatic application start up and continuousoperation through multiple log-on and log-off cycles.

Runtime Viewing EnhancementsIn addition, InTouch users can run the new scriptfunction – IOSetRemoteReferences, to modify thedata source for ArchestrA Objects or InTouch tagreferences at runtime. This enables developers toswitch object instances for graphic symbols based onparticular conditions or directly via user interactionsuch as clicking a button. It also allows users tomodify an application’s access name (Galaxy orInTouch Tag Server node) and item name at runtime, greatly increasing the amount of information a usercan view with minimal application modification. Byadding a button to a window, users can opt to viewinformation from different devices, objects, areas andplants. Updating the real-time information on thewindow is very fast because only one line of scriptneeds to execute. This functionality applies to allgraphic objects and SmartSymbols.

UNRIVALED CONNECTIVITY InTouch software can connect to virtually anyindustrial automation control device because of thehundreds of available I/O and OPC® servers that aredesigned to connect to Wonderware products. Thelist of available servers is longer than that of anyother HMI product on the market. This is madepossible by Wonderware’s device integration team aswell as hundreds of third-party product developersthat offer connectivity to Rockwell, Siemens,Schneider and other products.

Wonderware servers provide access to InTouchapplication data through Microsoft® DDEcommunications, Wonderware’s SuiteLink™protocol or OPC technology. Third-party developerscan use the ArchestrA DAS (data access server)Toolkit to create servers that incorporate one or allof the communication methods listed above. TheInTouch HMI, as well as Wonderware’s otherFactorySuite A2™ products, are capable of serving asan OPC clients or OPC server.

ARCHITECTURE — EASIERSYSTEM DEPLOYMENT ANDMAINTENANCE

StandaloneInTouch applications can be installed in a standaloneenvironment — a single computer node. This isuseful for companies that do not require manydifferent operator stations for viewing and controllingthe same industrial processes. Each node iscompletely self-contained and not dependent on anyother computer for operation. These systems can alsobe networked.

Page 4: WNDR-598 intouch 8 ds - · PDF fileWonderware® InTouch® 9.0 EASE OF USE InTouch software enables users to quickly create and deploy graphical representations of real-time industrial

Wonderware® InTouch® 9.0

Client/ServerMoreover, InTouch applications can be installed in aclient/server environment. This method saves timeand money on software maintenance andadministration. Users can choose from severaldifferent scenarios, depending on their needs.

Tag Server ConfigurationUsing thethe tag server configuration, a user candesignate one or multiple computers as tag servers. These tag servers can store the tagname dictionary(all the tags used in the InTouch applications),perform historical event logging, run QuickScripts, actas an alarm facility and connect to I/O data.Applications running on the client nodes (operatorstations) connect to the tag servers to display theinformation.

Dynamic Network Application Development(NAD)Dynamic NAD facilitates centralized maintenance ofan InTouch application master copy using onenetwork server. Each client node makes a local copyof the master application, providing strongredundancy. If the server is unavailable, the clientnode keeps working — using its local copy of theapplication. Reconnections after the server re-appearsare transparent and seamless. Another powerful NADfeature is that users can accept InTouch applicationchanges at the client nodes, without shutting downthe running InTouch application. The system alertsthe operator when changes to the application areavailable and the operator can accept them when it isconvenient. Once accepted, only the applicationcomponents that were changed are downloaded andupdated on the client nodes. If the operator choosesnot to accept the configuration changes, the latestapplication will be downloaded the next time thesystem is restarted. Therefore, the operator is alwaysusing the most current application and can updatethe running application at any time, without incurringdowntime or loss of process visualization.

Terminal ServicesTerminal Services permit centralized softwaredeployment, maintenance and management, re-useof hardware, high levels of security, and clientsupport for multiple operating systems. They includethe Microsoft Windows 2000; XP; 2003; CE;Embedded Windows NT® (NTE); Windows forWorkgroups 3.11, 95 and 98; Windows forWorkgroups NT 3.51 and 4.0; Linux®; and Unix®

operating systems. In addition, customers can usethin-client terminals to extend the view into theirprocesses. Thin-client terminals can also be used inplace of regular computer nodes to provideadditional low-cost views into the application orreplacements for indicating devices, such as chartrecorders or temperature controllers. In addition,Terminal Services for InTouch applications can run onPDAs and Tablet PCs for mobility and constantvisualization into and control over an application. TheTerminal Services for InTouch HMI provides all of thebenefits of thin-client technology while reducing theoverall cost of system ownership.

InTouch ViewSystems featuring Wonderware’s IndustrialApplication Server use InTouch View for processvisualization. The Industrial Application Server greatlyreduces the engineering efforts and time required tomaintain and deploy large systems within one plantor across multiple plants. InTouch View is an idealchoice for customers looking to migrate existingapplications into one large, feature-rich system. Inthis configuration, the Industrial Application Serverhandles all of the security, scripting, history and I/O,and InTouch View provides a low-cost HMI solutionfor visualizing the information.

Tablet PC SupportWonderware’s InTouch software has been enhancedto help customers leverage new Tablet PC featuressuch as Inking and Annotation. Inking enablescustomers to write values into data links in theirown handwriting. The InTouch applicationrecognizes numbers and/or text in multiplelanguages and inputs them into the data field.Annotation enables users to mark up a graphical

display with pens and highlighters. After capturingand annotating a graphical screen, the user caninstantly e-mail, print or save the screen capture tofacilitate troubleshooting and explanations of theproduction process.

Wonderware Tablets and Touch PanelComputersWonderware’s Industrial Tablets and Touch PanelComputers are pre-integrated with fully functioningInTouch software. Existing applications can be re-usedwith Wonderware’s Industrial Tablets and Touch PanelComputers without modifications, saving valuableengineering time and effort while increasing themobility and versatility of the applications.

InTouch applications on Industrial Tablets and TouchPanel Computers can provide visualization and controlin many automation scenarios previously servicedonly by closed proprietary (a.k.a., ‘dumb’) terminals.Wonderware Industrial Tablets and Touch PanelComputers work out of the box, without additionalconfiguration, and include access to Wonderware’sextensive library of device integration tools, ensuringconnectivity to a wide range of systems.

Tablet PC, XP Pro and XP EmbeddedSupportWonderware Industrial Tablets feature the latestversion of the InTouch software are the MicrosoftWindows XP Tablet PC Edition operating system.Touch Panel Computers are available with either theMicrosoft Windows XP Professional Edition or XPe (XPEmbedded) Edition operating systems in standard andindustrialized models.

ADDITIONAL DISTRIBUTEDSYSTEM FEATURESInTouch software offers several additional features toenable better application design and control fordistributed environments. The InTouch HMI alsooffers client/server tools for configuration, deployment, maintenance and multi-plant systems.

Remote Tag ReferencingIn order to fully realize the benefits of theclient/server architecture, the InTouch HMI offersRemote Tag Referencing for application developers, which allows them to create an InTouch applicationwithout using any local tagnames. At runtime, theclient nodes connect to the tag server to retrieveinformation. Remote Tag Referencing enablescompanies to save time and money because userscan create one template and re-use it several timesthroughout the application.

Distributed HistoryInTouch software includes a distributed historicaltrending system that allows users to dynamicallyspecify a different historical file or data source for

each pen of a trend chart. This allows an operator toview both native InTouch history and IndustrialSQLServer™ history in the same trend. Distributed historytrending enables swift analysis of historicalinformation on one screen, saving time andimproving the analysis of multiple variables.

Dynamic Resolution Conversion (DRC)Dynamic Resolution Conversion (DRC) enables usersto develop applications in one screen resolution andrun them in another, without affecting the originalapplication. The applications can also be run at auser-defined resolution, instead of the displayresolution. In addition, DRC allows users to takeadvantage of multiple monitors within an applicationwithout worrying about where the windows willappear. Users can save time by creating anapplication once and deploying it anywhere, ondisplays of any size — without redesigning, copyingor modifying the original application.

Distributed Time ZonesIn addition, the InTouch HMI provides services toboth the distributed history and alarm systems, permitting value viewing in the local time. This isimportant because it eliminates confusion over whenevents occurred when applications become largerand span multiple physical areas.

ALARMS — MORE VIEWING OPTIONS,ADDITIONAL FEATURES AND BENEFITS

Knowledge about system alarms and the ability toacknowledge them in a timely manner can save acompany hours of costly downtime. Operators needto view alarms and track what occurred throughoutthe entire manufacturing process in order tominimize and be accountable for losses. InTouchsoftware offers three different application alarmviews that can be used together or separately.

THREE VIEWS INTO ALARMS

Distributed Alarm DisplayThe Distributed Alarm Object enables operators toselect and pre-configure alarm views at runtime. Thisdisplay shows a summary of current alarms.

Database View ControlThe Database View Control displays alarms that havebeen logged in the InTouch Alarm Logger Database. The display shows the Origin Time, GMT Time, orLocal Time for historical session alarms.

Alarm Viewer ControlThe Alarm Viewer Control is an ActiveX control thatprovides both current summary and historical sessionalarm information. It has a similar look and feel tothe Database View Control to enable quickconfiguration and ensure ease of use. The alarmviewers enable the operator to sort the alarms basedon the important priorities at runtime. Dialog boxesand easy-to-use Wizards also make alarmconfiguration simple to implement. An InTouch usergains complete control over the current alarms intheir system and retrieval of historical alarminformation.

ALARM FEATURES ANDENHANCEMENTS

Alarm AcknowledgementInTouch software offers three alarmacknowledgement models:

■ Traditional, condition-oriented alarms;

■ Event alarms, which are compatible with the OPCalarm model and require an acknowledgment forthe most recent transition to an alarmed state;and

■ Expanded Summary alarms, which supportacknowledgment of each transition into and outof an alarmed state.

Alarm Flexibility Alarms can be enabled or disabled directly orindirectly, using Alarm Inhibitor Tags, under fullcontrol of the application. Alarm suppression can beapplied to single alarm classes, tags or groups, toprohibit the display of alarm information on aspecific view node. System-wide disablement can alsoblock alarm activity at the source.

Powerful Distributed Alarm Subsystems

Alarm Toolkit The Alarm Toolkit enables third parties, systemsintegrators (SIs) and end users to enhance InTouchsystems by writing custom Alarm Providers andAlarm Consumers that work with their devices.Alarm Providers determine alarm conditions andpublish the alarms to the InTouch Distributed AlarmSubsystem. Alarm Consumers are clients thatreceive information from the InTouch DistributedAlarm Subsystem. By using the toolkit, a hardwaredevice interface can be constructed and integratedinto an InTouch environment, allowing thathardware device to publish and manage alarmsusing the Distributed Alarm Subsystem.

SuiteLink Time-Stamping InTouch 9.0 software offers alarming up to themillisecond -- when the alarm is generated, not whenthe consumer receives the alarm.

Easy Alarm Configuration Wizards

Alarm DatabaseThe InTouch Distributed Alarm Subsystem supportslogging alarms and events to a Microsoft SQL Server7.0, 2000 or MDSE database. This gives users thepower of a relational database regardless of theapplication size or project budget.

AlarmSuite Database Migration Support for AlarmSuite users is still available. However, to enable maximum flexibility, theInTouch 9.0 HMI also provides migration tools fromexisting AlarmSuite databases to the AlarmDatabase View Control.

Easy-to-Configure Hot Backup andResynchronization The Distributed Alarm System allows you toconfigure a secondary backup Alarm Provider toestablish a fail-safe system. Alarm Provider Pairsare configured using a supplied utility. Should aprimary Alarm Provider fail, the Distributed AlarmSubsystem seamlessly acquires alarm informationfrom the backup system. Upon reconnection tothe primary Alarm Provider, the Distributed AlarmSubsystem synchronizes the information beforethe primary system becomes live again.
