Visit Re-Bath Showroom For Latest Ideas In “Green Designs”

Mid-America Re-Bath and Remodeling, with a showroom at 8100 Watson Road in Marlborough and kiosks located at South County, West County and Chesterfield malls, has been serving customers with the latest in bathroom designs for 30 years.

Boasting exceptional customer service and lifetime warranties, Re-Bath is a Better Business Bureau accredited company offer-ing free in-home estimates and free design consultations.

Owners Steve and Kelly Fesler say their company, in business for 30 years and ser-vicing the St. Louis area for 17 years, spe-cializes in “Green Designs” in both the products they choose and in the ways in which they install those products.

“Giving customers a new, easy-to-clean and maintain, well-built bathroom that will last a long time is very important to us, and helps increase the value of a home,” Steve Fesler said. “But the actual way in which we build/install a new tub or shower is also very important. The more we can all do to help improve indoor air qual-

ity, reduce consumption, minimize materials waste, minimize carbon release and con-serve energy and resources, the better it is for all of us.”

Some of the green aspects Re-Bath focuses on during a bathroom remodel include: dust control, waste reduction, fume and odor elimination and mold elimination.

“Re-Bath believes that remodeling your bath does not have to be a messy, expensive, unpleasant experience,” Fesler said. “Bathroom renovations have come a long way with the help of green design guide-lines, and the innovative systems that Re-Bath has designed and perfected.”

Fesler said Re-Bath offers customers the latest technology in bathroom remodeling, combined with a talented staff dedicated to customer satisfaction.

“Re-Bath can update your bathroom fast-er and better than anyone else in the industry,

and be environmentally-conscious at the same time,” Fesler said.

Re-Bath uses facto-ry-certified installers and is a listed company with Angie’s List.

Back & Neck Care Center Celebrates 25 Years In Webster Groves

“At the suggestion of my uncle, Mr. Gus Lamar, former resident and teacher at Webster Groves High School, we started our practice in Webster Groves. We have now served the community for the last 25 years in the same location, making us the oldest established chiropractic practice in the area,” said Dr. Joseph Lane, owner of the Back & Neck Care Center of Webster Groves. “My father, brother, and I built this business from the ground up,” said Dr. Lane.

Dr. Lane is a licensed chiropractic phy-sician, a certified acupuncturist, and was previously awarded the prestigious honor of Chiropractor of the Year in the State of Missouri. Previously, Dr. Lane received the Philanthropic Businessman of the Year award, and in 2005, the Outstanding Business award, both from the Chamber of Commerce for his Community Service. He received his degree from Logan College of

Chiropractic and upon graduation, was given one of two Clinic Achieve ment Awards for his expertise in the field.

Dr. Lane would like to acknowledge his patients who participated in the annual “Coats for Kids,” “Adopt-a-Family” and “Fan Fare” campaigns throughout the past year. “Through their kind donations and generosity we have helped the children and families in the Webster Groves area and Webster-Rock Hill Ministries, admin-istered by Ed Johnson.” Yes, Dr. Lane is still managing baseball teams in the sum-mer!

In the operation of his practice, Dr. Lane relies on the expertise of his assis-tant, Terri. With over fifteen years of experience, she handles insurance billing, medical records, and some advertising and marketing tasks. He also counts on Laura to manage the schedule and Lisa

to assist with physical therapy.

Webster Groves Complete Auto Repair: A Family-Run Business Since 1982

Jerry Pfitzinger opened his auto repair business in 1982 in Valley Park. After his business was flooded several times, Pfitzinger moved to his current location at #2 South Old Orchard Ave. in 1996.

Jerry, now a retired owner, has turned the reigns over to his son, Scott Pfitzinger. In addition to auto repairs, the company serves as a state inspection and emissions inspection station.

“Technology has changed our business,” Scott said. “Vehicles now have advanced electronic systems which require our auto shop technicians to stay current by attend-ing classes and by having the proper tools and diagnostic equipment.

“Our shop technicians also need to keep up to date with the mechanics and technol-ogy involved to service and repair hybrid vehicles.”

The shop has kept up to date with new diagnostic scanning equipment, along with transmission, coolant and brake flush equip-ment.

Scott said his business has been very fortunate during these difficult economic times. More people are having repairs done on their vehicles rather than purchasing new ones. In addition, with so many dealers going out of business, the volume of work at Webster Groves Complete Auto Repair has increased.

“With the increase in business, we have hired an additional auto technician to help us with our increased work load,” Scott said.

Scott said his crew finds satisfaction in making sure customers thoroughly under-stand the repairs being made and why they are necessary.

“If the customers are present, we take them in their vehicles and visually point out the problems and/or parts which need to be replaced,” Scott said. “Customers appreci-ate our honesty and appreciate our effort in getting the most reasonable prices for parts. We take the extra time by shopping and comparing not only price, but also quality of parts that are needed.”

The Davey Tree Expert Company Complete Tree And Lawn Care Since 1880

John Davey founded The Davey Tree Expert Co. in Kent, Ohio, 1880. Davey has been a leader in the tree and lawn care industry for over 125 years — and has been established in St. Louis for more than 100 of those years. The Davey family sold the business to its employees in 1979 and it remains an employee-owned com-pany today.

Located at 1206 Hanley Industrial Court in Brentwood, Davey Tree Expert Co. offers com-plete tree, shrub and lawn care, deep root fertil-ization, insect and disease management, quality pruning, cabling and bracing, lightning protec-tion, large tree moving and much more.

“We work in many historical neighborhoods where the trees’ character lends to the appeal of the areas,” said District Manager Karl Dreyer.

Working closely on Karl’s team are Greg Wilson, Assistant District Manager, and Tom Beshoar, Sales Arborist.

Davey also provides landscaping renovation, including mowing, vegetation control, and sea-sonal color displays. The company also provides ser-vices to help with the instal-lation of plants, trees, sod/seed, mulch, retaining walls, enhancements, etc.

Dreyer states that several staff members are degreed in horticulture, forestry and environ-mental disciplines. Several employees also have certifications from the International Society of Arboriculture as certified arborists, as well. This is something Davey takes great pride in.

Dreyer believes that Davey Tree emphasizes the importance of addressing tree problems before they happen.

“Preventative maintenance, such as pruning, fertilization and insect control, keeps trees healthy and less likely to succumb to storm dam-age,” he said.

Backed by The Davey Institute and accredit-ed by the Tree Care Industry Association, Dreyer says that customers recognize and comment on the professionalism that Davey Tree employees bring to each job.

“The professional manner in which we con-duct our business is something our customers regularly comment on,” Dreyer said. “When our crews show up with a fully-equipped aerial

bucket truck and chipper, people notice the hard hats, uniforms, safety concerns and the pride shown by our employees.” Davey’s goal is to “Do it right, or not at all.”

Specializing in Senior AdultIn-Home Care Since 1987

“I started Seniors Home Care to provide a support system for older adults,” said Kit Whittington, R.N., founder of Seniors Home Care. “SHC allows individuals who want the benefits of assisted living, but do not want to move out of their home, stay in the comfort of their own homes and maintain their independence.

The range of services is reassuring to client families who find it difficult to raise their own families while trying to be supportive caregivers to their elderly parents. Those services have been designed around the true needs of the older population, with companionship, medication reminders, transportation, shopping, light housekeeping, cooking, and personal care among the many services offered.

How are a client’s needs determined? Whittington meets with each client personally conducting a detailed complimentary assessment. Her intimately itemized checklist is the basis for her overall impression of the client’s needs. The sum of

data and, professional intuition, provides the blueprint for meeting the client’s needs.

Those needs are met by carefully screened, bonded, and insured Seniors Home Care employees, not contract hires. Each caregiver undergoes a thorough background search and completes a training program designed by Whittington and administered by professional instructors. It includes some basic nursing skills and physical therapy applications.

SHC offers its clients flexibility, with care ranging from a 30 minute QuickVisit™ to 24 hour care seven days a week. A number of services are also offered to those in a nursing home, recovering from an illness, or who are hospitalized. SHC is a member of the Better Business Bureau with an A+

rating.“My goal is for older adults

to be able to live with dignity,” said Whittington. “I believe Seniors Home Care provides individuals just that, through the kindness and respect we show them.”

Martha’s Hands provides caring assistance with a client’s daily activities, allowing them to maintain their independence in their home. Their nursing supervisor works with the client and their family to customize a care plan just for them.

Typical services include bathing and dressing assistance; meal preparation/clean-up; medica-tion set-up and reminders; light housekeeping; laundry; errand running; and companionship.

Eileen and John Hedrick founded Martha’s Hands with a mission that Eileen was taught over 30 years ago. While a nursing student, Eileen was taught compassionate care by the Sisters of Mercy, emphasizing total wellness. Eileen applied this mission in her nursing career.

John built his own success, having run a suc-cessful engineering company since 1986. With Eileen’s focus on high quality standards and John’s ability to organize and run a company, Martha’s Hands started in their basement in 1997.

Known for its quality service, Martha’s Hands has grown to become one of the premiere private-

duty home health agencies in St. Louis. They are regularly looking for compassionate

individuals willing to serve the needs of the elderly. Martha’s Hands provides training and matches a caregiver’s skills with the client’s needs. Their nurse supervisor introduces the new caregiver to the client, and reviews the care plan to make everyone feel comfortable.

Martha’s Hands now offers basic dental ser-vices in the client’s home. These Mobile Dentistry Services, performed by Dr. Dennis McCaffrey, provide people dental services with-out leaving the comfort of their own home.

Martha’s Hands maintains membership in the National Private Duty Association, Missouri Alliance for Home Care, Social Workers in Long Term Care and the Kirkwood Chamber.

While actual family members have joined the company, the Hedricks consider all of their employees members of their family, working to continue Eileen’s original mission of “Love through Service.”

The Martha’s Hands team is recognized as one of the area’s premiere private-duty home health ser-vices. Since 1997, Martha’s Hands has provided over 1,500,000 hours of compassionate care.

“Write for You“: Your Autobiography in an Heirloom Book or DVD

There may be no more priceless and treasured gift to pass down to one’s family than a life story, yet the process can be daunting and unwieldy. That’s where “Write for You” comes in. Kathy Evans will take the journey with the client, evoking the anec-dotes, half-forgotten memories, and details from times past. She then weaves them together in a beautifully designed and bound book, complete with family photos.

“I visit my clients in their homes over a period of months, and based on our inter-views, I write the story in the client’s voice,” Evans said. “When the family reads the book, they hear the voice of their parent or grandparent.”

Evans has written life stories for eight years now and has written more than 25 books since 2001.

“I’ve learned a lot about the process and what makes a story lively and interesting,” Evans said.

Her father, Richard Miller, is a dedicated gene-alogical sleuth, and often does family histories for her clients.

“Write for You” has recently added Gerry Mandel, an accomplished writer and docu-mentary film maker. He has had a longtime interest in interviewing seniors and World War II veterans. Mandel brings to “Write for You” the capability to make professional life story videos. He has the equipment, the easygoing manner, and the interview skills to make the process easy and comfortable for the client. A DVD can stand alone or complement a book project.

The product is a family heirloom, but Evans feels that the process itself is deeply valuable.

“My clients allow me to step inside their lives,” Evans said. “The journey we take together is meaningful for both of us.”

Solid Surface Resources: Innovative Products with a Clean Footprint

Solid Surface Resources is a custom fabricator of natural stone, engineered stone and “green surface” counter tops, as well as distributor of environmentally friendly floor-ing options including cork, rubber, bamboo and recycled vinyl.

The company was acquired in 2007 by Bill Behan, president of Solid Surface Resources, and his wife, Rhema Behan, design sales consultant.

Since then they have worked hard to provide professional customer service as well as environmentally friendly surface products.

“We strive to employ only ‘A’ players; ones who understand the meaning of profes-sionalism and commitment to our custom-ers,” Bill said.

Clients of Solid Surface Resources said they were impressed with the quality of cus-tomer service.

“Solid Surface Resources came out to review the project prompt-ly after my call.” Christine, a client from Town and Country, said. “I got three

bids for this service and found Solid Surfaces to be very competitive plus they had the best turnaround time. Very professional, timely and pleasant. I will certainly use them again.”

Solid Surface Resources is a full solution provider for home and business. Their cli-ents include commercial real estate develop-ers, architectural mill-work shops, custom home builders and residential homeowners.

Bill and Rhema insist being “green” does not have to be boring. Solid Surface Resources is committed to building func-tional and yet visually pleasing counter tops and flooring.

“I get the most satisfaction helping cli-ents make beautiful selections for their home,” Bill said. “While it may seem that counter tops serve just one function, the form, design and style are an expression of the owner. Natural stone is like jewelry for

your home.”For more information

J.E. Redington Co. Celebrates 80 YearsOf Plumbing Repair And Service

The Redington family has been providing plumb-ing repair and service to the St. Louis area since 1929. They are currently celebrating their 80th year in busi-ness.

The company, said to be Kirkwood’s second-oldest business, was founded by Jack Redington Sr. His sons, Jack Jr. and Jim, took over the business in the mid-70s.

Rick and Jeff Redington, the current owners, are the third generation to run the company. Rick Redington is a master plumber, and his brother Jeff buys all the parts and fixtures. Also on staff are dispatcher Linda O’Brien, who schedules the plumbing technicians in the field, and accounts payable/receivable expert Alice Pondrom.

J.E. Redington Co. has always been located in Kirkwood. In the early days of the business, they ser-viced a lot of new residential homes. Then came kitchen and bath remodeling.

“Now we work with high-quality remodelers and builders on projects of any scale,” said Jeff Redington.

At times when the housing market is down, remodeling is generally up. Quality finishes such as granite, brushed nickel and oil rubbed bronze are popu-lar today.

The company offers all types of plumbing repairs, from faucet replacement to plumbing for the entire home. Current trends in water conservation have been a hot topic among consumers lately, said Jeff Redington.

“People want to conserve water, but they also want products to function the way the old products did,” he said.

Recently, J.E. Redington Co. merged with Dierkes Plumbing. The owners of the two companies had been good friends for years, making the merger a natural step for both families. Dierkes Plumbing has provided quality plumbing services to South St. Louis for gen-erations.

J.E. Redington Co. continues to meet the needs of its clients with a hands-on, hometown approach and exceptional service.

“We love seeing how relieved customers are when their plumbing problems are solved,” said Jeff Redington.

J.E. Redington Plumbing Co. is a member of the Chamber of Commerce; the Independent Plumbing Contractors Assc.; the Natl. Kitchen and Bath Assc.; Quality Service Contractors; and board member of the Plumbing, Heating and Cooling Contractors Assc.

Kuhn Construction: Raising The RoofKuhn Construction spent a good part of

2008 and the first half of 2009 completing a home renovation for Dr. and Mrs. Patrick Murphy of Kirkwood. The project involved tearing off the roof and the rear of the bun-galow style home in Kirkwood and adding a new addition with a full basement, expan-sive first floor open kitchen family room and a full second story featuring two bedrooms with a Jack and Jill bath, master suite and a second floor laundry closet area.

“Some builders would have advised tear-ing down and starting over, but we like to preserve the old and incorporate in new to match, preserving history,” said Rick Kuhn, CEO of Kuhn Construction.

The Murphy renovation will be one of the projects featured on the Home Builders Association Remodelers Council Bus Tour in August.

Kuhn knows about his-tory as he is the fifth genera-tion to work in the building business in his family. He and his wife Mary Jane have been running the business

since 1980. The company, located in Oakland, is a full service builder. From small repair projects to total renovations to build-ing churches, Kuhn can handle it.

Kuhn recently won The Chrysalis Award for a charming guest cottage.

“This was such a fun project,” he said, and “to win an award was icing on the cake.”

The “Little Cottage That Could” as it was called featured two bedrooms, bath, and an open living kitchen space with custom book-cases flanking the fireplace and flat screen TV.

Kuhn and staff also take their skills and use them to help the community.

“We always participate in the Rebuilding Together St. Louis build day and this year we had the opportunity to also work with Rebuilding Together and HGTV on a special

project for a local veteran,” said Kuhn.

Giving to their clients, their community and their church keeps the Kuhns and their company grounded.

Compassionate Care For Life With Continuum Home Health Care

Continuum home health care is the vision of founder and president Barth Holohan MSW, MBA, who started the business to meet care needs he discovered through his work and education.

Holohan’s mission to spend his career helping others started when he was a young man. He began by volunteering in retirement homes. Later, he became a health care consultant and received a master’s degree in business and social work with a concentration in gerontology from Washington University. He obtained a nursing home adminis-trator’s license, and worked in the operations of retirement communities.

These experiences taught him that many peo-ple just need help with every day living tasks; however, most prefer to stay in the comfort of their home. So, to help meet the needs he saw, he opened a home care company that provides care for life, care that most people need, when they need it, and where they want it.

“Whether someone’s needs are a weekly trip to therapy, the grocery store, bathing assistance, medication reminders, nursing care or a helping hand around the house, we can help,” said Holohan. “We are available by the hour or for the day.”

Last year Holohan opened an adult day center

in Des Peres called Family Partners. Family Partners provides stimulation, socialization and supervision for adults with memory or physical impairment in a home-like setting. Visit www.FamilyPartners.com to learn more.

Holohan and Continuum were awarded the Stewardship Award from St. Mary’s Health Center for outstanding dedication to the older adult popu-lation; the St. Louis Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 Award; and the Distinguished Alumni Award from Washington University’s Brown School of Social Work.

Continuum has about 200 employees, with 14 managers who manage the day-to-day operations. Of those, executive director Cathy Pasierb lives in Glendale, business manager Terri Ballance lives in Kirkwood, and monitoring device manager Art Korte lives in Rock Hill.

Holohan grew up in St. Louis and lives in Des Peres, where Continuum is headquartered. His staff said the business is like one big family, where everyone cares about one another and thrives on meeting the needs of their clients.

“We are family help-ing families,” said Holohan.

Reineke Decorating Centers Sell Color At Three Area Stores

With three locations, Reineke Decorating Centers Inc. strives to give its customers the best products and advice to get their projects finished right!

Reineke sells color, specializing in decorating techniques and selling paint, wallcovering and related items. The three centers are located at 12017 Manchester Road, Des Peres; 8121 Manchester Road, Brentwood; and 3015 Lemay Ferry Road, Mehlville.

Carl D. Reineke acquired a family tradition in the paint business when he bought out an existing paint store in 1976 where the Des Peres store is located.

“With the support of my parents, Russell and Rita Reineke, I went out on my own,” he said. He said the staff, most of whom have been with him for years, are considered part of the family.

Over the years products have changed and customers are much more knowledgeable about the products and applications.

“One thing that has remained the same is our ability to bring the most

innovative product selection to St. Louis customers,” said Reineke. He noted that his company was the first to have a color computer for matching.

He also offers new trends in wallpaper and the latest color trends – with large color samples to take home.

Stores carry Benjamin Moore paints for any problem a customer may have and stores also have environmentally-friendly paint.

As another service, Reineke can provide customers with referrals for reliable contractors for painting, wallpaper hanging or faux finishing.

Reineke finds it very satisfying helping customers determine the best color for their particular jobs.

Customers like Reineke’s one-stop shopping for painting/faux finishing and accessories.

“Painters tell us they make only one stop – at Reineke’s – to get everything needed – including that important cup of coffee, and help carrying the paint to the car,” Reineke said.

Third Generation Dentist Leads Tate’s Kirkwood Family Dental

As a third generation dentist, Edward F. Tate D.D.S. has been exposed to the best training that dentistry can provide: seeing his family’s dental practices first hand, and knowing, from a young age, that dentistry was to be his lifelong passion.

Family involvement is important to Dr. Tate’s Kirkwood Family Dental practice. His wife, Rita, has been the administrator for 15 years. Their daughter Tori, a sophomore at Kirkwood High School, is a part-time office receptionist-in-training.

The Tates also have a son, Austin, who will be starting at Nipher Middle School in the fall. Both kids are involved in lots of school activities: Tori is a cheerleader, and Austin plays ball through Kirkwood Athletic Association. In addition, the couple has four adult children, two of whom will be married this fall.

“My family resides in an outstanding commu-nity,” said Dr. Tate. “I have another office in the Florissant area, but my family and I live in Kirkwood and I wanted to practice dentistry where I live.”

A combination of con-tinuing education and technological improve-ments has dramatically improved modern dentist-ry, said Dr. Tate.

“My use of the laser for cavity detection decreases the need for anesthetic in many cases of early cavity detection, and our complete computer-ized treatment rooms provide the ultimate in patient education and understanding of all dental proce-dures,” he said.

Painless dentistry may seem like a difficult obstacle to overcome, but time after time, patients, both old and new, compliment Dr. Tate about their painless dental experience.

Dr. Tate also has extensive experience with esthetics and function of partial and full dentures.

“My patients are WOWed by their smile and fit of their appliances,” he said.

A recent addition for patients who are concerned about leaving the dental office with numbness is a product called OraVerse that dramatically reduces the time that patients stay numb after a procedure. No more funny smiles after dental work!

Everyone wants a whiter smile. Kirkwood Family Dentistry is offering a Zoom! Whitening

special of $300 for one patient, or refer a friend and save $50, good through August. Call 909-9200 for the “Bleach free for life” program.

Massage Envy: Unlock a More Energetic and Stress Free Lifestyle

Massage Envy was opened by Bruce and Sandy Conner three years ago. The Conners started the business because they wanted to share the benefits of massage therapy with others.

Over the past three years, Massage Envy has continued to grow and expand because of the professionalism of the therapists and benefits clients notice from the massage.

“We are celebrating our three-year anni-versary in July,” Bruce Conner said. “We continue to grow even in the bad economy because of our great therapists and their care for their clients.”

Massage Envy customizes the massage to meet each individual client’s needs. The massages at Massage Envy are designed not only for relaxation, but to benefit the client medically.

Massages improve circulation, lower blood pressure, help manage pain, strength-en the immune system and improve flexibil-ity while relieving everyday stress.

Recent scientific

research shows that massages reduce the recovery from some medical conditions including allergies, depression, arthritis, insomnia and asthma.

The cost for a first massage is just $39.00. This is so affordable that it is possi-ble for everyone to enjoy a massage and customers keep coming back because of the benefits of massage.

The deep tissue massage targets knots to release chronic muscle tension by focusing on the deepest layers of muscle tissue and tendons. The massage reduces inflammation and helps eliminate scar tissue.

“I enjoy seeing everyone work together to provide a great experience for every cli-ent,” Bruce Conner said. “We love to see clients come out of a massage happy and relaxed, and knowing that we are helping them.”

To make an appointment for a custom-ized massage with a massage therapist, call 849-5100.

Orlando Banquets: Unique Banquet Facilities and Catering

Stemming from a love of the culinary arts, Sam and Jan Orlando, founders of Orlando Banquets, started cooking out of their home kitchen in 1967. They began catering small events for friends. Since then Orlando Banquets has been a family-owned business with catering, planning and provid-ing banquet facilities for weddings and cor-porate events.

Currently Orlando Banquets consists of three locations as well as a bed and break-fast, The Lodge at Grants Trail. The Lodge is located next door to the 4300 Hoffmeister Ave. location in South County.

Over the years Orlando Banquets has risen from a “mostaccioli wedding” caterer to that of simple to high-end cuisine.

Executive Chef Larry Dann has taken the business to new heights and has created a reputation as one of St. Louis’ most elite caterers.

“We delight in hearing our clients say, ‘your food doesn’t taste like typical wedding food,’” Mike Orlando, partner of Orlando Banquets said.

Over the last 40 years, competition has increased greatly with more and more event facilities and caterers entering the market. However, Orlando Banquets has worked hard to continually provide high quality catering and event locations.

Although Orlando Banquets is known as one of the largest banquet and conference centers in St. Louis, and is known for host-ing more wedding receptions than any of their competition, they also cater to corpo-rate clients in other unique venues.

Orlando Banquets helps its clients pro-vide more than delicious and unique menus to their guests. They also help them plan aspects of their event from rentals and enter-tainment to unique design.

Orlando Banquets prides itself in offer-ing the best possible service and cuisine at

the most affordable price. “We have invested in

our facilities to rival that of exquisite hotels and county clubs at a fraction of the price,” Mike Orlando said.

Owners Mark Thompson and Paul Cernich have been partners in their residential window washing and gutter cleaning business since 1983. They first met when both worked at a Denny’s restaurant as teenagers, and have became lifelong friends.

When they first started their business, Rose Thompson, Mark’s mother, was invaluable, answering calls and doing payroll and bookkeeping. She did such a good job, in fact, that she is still their number one employee.

Mark has lived on the same street in Webster Groves his entire life. He is married to Terri, and together they have three children: Brody, Trevor and Nina.

Paul lives in Fenton with his wife Susan, and they are the parents of Rachel, Josh, Ryan and Nicole.

Both Mark and Paul are proud of the relationships

they’ve built with their regular customers. “We appreciate our clients who refer other clients… that is the best compliment ever.”

“Over the years, we’ve had the opportunity to see families grow,” said Paul. “Now we clean windows and gutters for our clients’ sons and daughters.

“With only the two of us on the job site, customers don’t have to worry about having several different people in and out of their home,” he added. “Most of our clients don’t even have to be home for us to do our job.”

Shur-Way Auto Body First To “Go Green” With Water-Based Paint

Back in 1971 Shur-Way Auto Body was born. Like any other family-owned auto body shop, the oldest son was brought into the business.

Mike Swederska grew up in Webster Groves, going to Lockwood and Avery grade schools then on to Plymouth Jr. High. He spent one year at Webster High then moved on to South County Tech to study auto body. He graduated from South County Tech in 1973, the whole time working in the family body shop, part-time nights at Louis IX restaurant, and throwing newspapers for Mr. Collins.

In 1988, Swederska bought the family busi-ness from his parents and expanded. He upgraded the collision division of the shop by adding two frame machines and a two post mechanical in-ground lift. The Shur-Way office is staffed by his wife, Vicky, niece Leana Hahn, and his oldest son, Mike Jr., along with a full-time driver for picking up customers.

Mike Jr. is the estimator and has an inside loca-tion with an in-ground lift to make accurate esti-mates. Swederska’s middle son Quin is the body shop manager and head frame tech. Quin is trained on the frame machine and the latest techniques on fix-ing all makes and models

involved in a collision. He also is in charge of the quality produced by the other auto body techs.

Mike Swederska is on the board of recom-mendation for Ranken Tech in the auto body field. Because of the drive to be a good conservationist, Swederska has “gone green” by moving Shur-Way into the next phase of the auto body industry. In 2007 he began refinishing automobiles with water-based paint, and has not looked back since. He went to Garmat USA to help design a state-of-the-art spray booth to fit his exacting needs.

Swederska’s youngest son Ben is his lead painter. He knows that Ben’s health and the future of his grandkids would be at risk if he was still spraying toxic solvent based paint. Today Shur-Way can make the claim that they were the first in the state of Missouri to spray water-based.

Swederska is an avid fly-fisherman and presi-dent of Ozark Fly Fishers. He is the current presi-dent of the Webster Groves Lions Club, and served as the Community Days carnival chairman in 2007. His wife is treasurer of the Lions Club.

He’s proud to say that Shur-Way Auto Body Inc. has grown from just three employ-ees to 15 well-trained people, ready to serve the surrounding community.

Residents Say “Yes I Can!” To Another50 Years With Riggs Remodeling

Not many businesses can say they’ve been around for 50 years. So as Riggs Construction & Design marks 50 years as a family-owned busi-ness in Kirkwood and Webster, it reflects on how it has been successful helping residents say “Yes I Can” to remodeling.

The Gutter Cover Company Dedicated To Service, Integrity, Quality

The Gutter Cover Company is a Christian-based, family-owned business. Owners Jim and Staci Maneage are dedicated to outstanding customer service, integrity in pricing and prod-uct quality.

“We want to keep our customers off the roof by giving them a permanent fix to all their leaves and sticks,” Staci said.

This year the company was chosen for its products and services by Epworth in Webster Groves.

The Gutter Cover Company is the exclusive authorized dealer in the St. Louis metro area for The Gutter Cover. The product’s internal brack-et system is unique to this product.

“You want the real gutter cover, so make sure it’s from Jim and Staci Maneage!” said Staci. “It’s virtually maintenance free.”

They install the Gutter Cover year-round. The cover fits over existing gutters keeping gut-ters free flowing. It keeps water away from the house and prevents ice build-up from causing damage. The bracket system, along with the heavy gauge gutter cover, adds to appearance and strengthens existing gutter systems.

Consumer Advocate Jill Farmer says, “The company’s top-notch product, customer service and integrity are the best in the business. To have such high quality, at such a great value, makes The Gutter Cover the only choice for me.”

Quality materials, expert installation and 100 percent customer satisfaction remain the hallmarks of The Gutter Cover Company, which offers a lifetime performance warranty. The Maneages also do their own work and do not subcontract. They receive many compliments for their fine work and high-quality product. The company is a member of the Home Builders Association and has received the Angie’s List award three years in a row.

The company is also a 2009 winner of the Better Business Bureau Torch Award. The Maneages encourage potential customers to take the time to check their record with the BBB.

“Each of our customers is special,” said Staci. “You’re not just another job.”

Eirich Landscaping, Inc.‘Four Generations In Grounds Maintenance’

In 1981, shortly after completing his degree in horticulture, Scott Eirich incor-porated Eirich Landscaping, Inc.

He was proud to take over the family heritage, becoming the fourth generation in grounds maintenance.

Eirich Landscaping, Inc. is a complete residential and commercial landscaping business. Services include: installation of bushes, trees, fences, retaining walls, drainage systems and lawn sodding; ero-sion control; lawn maintenance; leaf and stump removal; final grading; topsoil; dethatching; aerating; swales; lawn seed-ing; fence rows cleared; mowing; plus all phases of tractor work. In addition, they have added a high efficiency leaf vacuum-ing system onto a large containment truck for super fast leaf and debris removal.

Firewood is split, sold and delivered

year round. Snow removal and salting services are available during the winter.

“Over the years my company has expanded, enabling us to perform many aspects of landscaping services,” said Scott. “This is due to experience, special equipment, knowledge and a conscien-tious staff. We consider all projects equal-ly important and the customer’s satisfac-tion number one. Clients often praise the efficiency, quality and neatness of the staff employed by Eirich Landscaping. We have always tried to staff our company with people who care.”

Environmentally Friendly Rain Tunnel Express Car Wash

Since its beginnings in 1995, Rain Tunnel Express Car Wash has been an environmen-tally friendly car wash. Its methods and materials are consistent with those recom-mended in owner’s manuals of most major makes of cars, vans, pickups and SUVs.

“The thing we hear over and over is how great our quality is, how friendly our staff is and how convenient and time-saving our washes are,” said Scott Knight, owner of Rain Tunnel Express Car Wash.

Knight started the business in 1995 with his friend since kindergarten, Mike Burns.

Together they have expanded to five locations that are consistently updated with the most efficient equipment and layout to produce the cleanest car possible.

Knight and Burns were inspired to start Rain Tunnel Express Car Wash because Knight’s father owned the Kirkwood company C.M. Knight Equipment Co., which was the distributor for leading car wash manufacturers.

Knight said he is proud of the philanthropic efforts of Rain

Tunnel Express Car Wash. Over the years the car wash has donated time, money and car washes to local church and school orga-nizations. Rain Tunnel has also donated to charities such as the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

In addition, Rain Tunnel is dedicated to keeping the environment free of toxic chem-icals. They use environmentally-friendly cleaners and shampoos, and all water is safely discharged into the local water treat-ment facility, never allowing it to run into local waterways. Rain Tunnel is committed to handling water in compliance with the Federal Clean Water Act.

The car wash also uses the latest com-puter technology to meter and limit water usage.

Rain Tunnel Express Car Wash’s soft cleaners and mild shampoos protect a vehicle’s finish and preserve its invest-ment value. Stop by one of their three convenient St. Louis loca-tions today.
