    SUPPORTING THE NEEDS 2

Supporting the Needs of All Learners

Instructional design continues to be a topic of concern to all instructors and their students.

When considering the importance of instructional design, responsible educators need to find

ways to create joy in the learning process. An article from theJournal of Arts and Culture states

how learning activities base joyful learning approaches as strategies to secure maximum

participation of students in the teaching-learning process (Jadal, 2012). The learning experience

can be an emotionally-fulfilling experience. Jadal discusses that learning by playing, learning by

doing, learning by enjoying, and learning by problem-solving engages the multi-sensory learning

process in students (Jadal, 2012). Creating a sense of depth and feeling as the students work on

their projects could potentially have an impact on how they view their lives, each other, and the

    world.

The educational paradigm shifts when considering current, multiple methods and tools

for teaching. In order to remain relevant, technology-enhanced instruction enables both learner

and teacher a transformative classroom experience. Technology-enhanced learning activities

provide motivation, orientation, information, application, and evaluation for both teaching and

learning various lessons. Considering how educational trends have already integrated

technology into the classrooms, the future of education is now. As education fuses with

technology to incorporate synchronous and asynchronous interaction, learners can easily access

an endless supply of sources of knowledge and information.

Improving instruction by integrating digital technologies across the curriculum has now

become a reality (Gloster & Saltzberg, 1996). The future of education involves electronic

learning (e-learning), which enables the transfer of knowledge through the increasing

developments in the internet and multimedia. Considering learning models, available tools, the

role of the instructor, the effectiveness of e-learning models will assist in the current

transformation and innovation of educational trends.

Technology coupled with a cooperative learning environment promotes positive

interdependence, individual accountability, collaboration, communication, leadership, and

encourages social involvement between students (Newby, Stepich, Lehman, Russell, &

Ottenbreit-Leftwich, 2011, p. 308). Different activities call for different methods of teaching

strategies and different strategies may include various uses for technology. When designing an

instructional activity, planning an activity, implementing the activity, and evaluating the activity

will conform to theplan, implement, and evaluate of the PIE model (Newby, et al, 2011, p. 1).

Using a variety of credible learning platforms can provide many activities that can be adapted to

    any circumstance or age group.

Design and Implementation Challenges During the Redesign

The initial challenge manifested in the form of selecting the activity to redesign. Reading

every word of the instructions and understanding the assignment helped. I originally chose two

other assignments before finally settling on the assignment about the Salem Witch Trials, Arthur

Millers,The Crucible, and the timing of McCarthyism versus the witch hunts of the time in

which The Crucible was written. I did experience a challenge in deciding what to change

because that assignment is one of my favorites from this degree program. I felt that using this

assignment around Halloween may create interest with high school students. The class could be

for Language Arts, History, or another form of the Humanities.

By creating a sense of joy, education can be a fun, as well as emotional experience! an

emotionally-fulfilling experience. Jadal discusses that learning by playing, learning by doing,

learning by enjoying, and learning by problem-solving engages the multi-sensory learning

process in students (Jadal, 2012). Creating a sense of depth and feeling as the students work on
