You will be my witnesses to

the ends of the earth —Jesus

Witnessing is telling someone

what you have seen or heard.

It is sharing your first-hand

knowledge of an event, story

or occurrence.

Recently, many people have

told their first-hand accounts

of storms which ripped

through our area and other

parts of the state. Some-

times we tell stories (witness)

of graduations, birthday par-

ties, weddings and other

celebrations. Sometimes we

tell stories of tragedy and

grief when experience hurt or

loss. Witnessing is something

the human race has done

since the first words were

uttered by human tongues.

When Jesus came and walked

upon this earth he told his

followers “You will tell stories

about Me!” And rightfully so.

The Bible is full of events and

encounters of God, who

came in Jesus, and human

beings who experienced him.

These “witnesses” told what

they knew. And they acted

upon that knowledge and

truth. They applied the love

the felt and saw. They ex-

perienced grace and then

lived grace-filled lives. They

weren’t perfect at it, but they

set new courses for their lives

because of what they found in

Jesus. Because Jesus had prom-

ised to be “with” them they told

their story—they witnessed.

Everyday, we can use our

tongues and our lives to tell the

story of God’s love, mercy and

grace. Our witness isn’t some-

one else’s encounter, it is our

experience with God. When

God is with us and we are with

him, great things happen. Our

lives are stretched and formed

into something more beautiful

than if we were to try to make

life work on our own.

The power of being a follower of

Jesus is that his presence is with

us through the Holy Spirit. God

lives inside of you. Colossians 1

says, “This is the mystery—

Christ in you, the hope of glory!”

And, in fact, it is a mystery. But

instead of trying to explain HOW

God lives in us, why not live with

that TRUTH and let it shape us.

If God is WITH us and FOR us,

then anything is possible. And

we never have to live without

HOPE! And when we have

hope, we can give hope to oth-

ers. This is our witness to the

world!
